  • In these days, according to increased environmental regulations, to reduce the VOC content in paints and inks efforts are now in progress. A lot of research have progressed hydrocarbon solvents substitute with vegetable oil or ester in the printing ink but it is restricted to use vegetable oil in the inks because of high molecular weight and viscosity. Oil ester currently developed for printing inks still have some drawbacks, but overall the printability and print quality when using ester than hydrocarbon solvents are showing good results. Thus, in this paper, I studied about the properties variation of the varnish and inks according to vegetable ester, after I reacted vegetable ester using the vegetable fatty acid and ethyl alcohol, butyl alcohol. The compared in order of average molecular weight by the GPC method, rheological properties were found by rotational rheometer, and emulsion behavior were compared by high speed emulsification tester.

  • The Lithographic ink is composed of pigment, vehicle and additives. In especially, the vehicle is the most important element and consist of vegetable oils, mineral oils and resins. Varnishes have to resist certain forms of chemical and physical attack during ink manufacturing process and printing process So this varnish cooking is very important. In this paper, effects of cooking conditions of varnish using phenolic modified rosin ester on physical properties of the vehicle were studied. The varnish cooked according to temperature and time were compared in order of average molecular weight by the GPC method. and the rheological properties were found by rotational rheometer. And the emulsion behavior were compared by high speed emulsification tester which were set on 1200 rpm and $40^{\circ}C$ temperature (Novomatics Lithotronic). We displayed viscosity against tack(Inkometer Thwing-Albert M-106) by diagram.

  • In this paper, we describe the fabrication of nano-scale ink particles with narrow size distribution to offer high optical density in electrophoretic display applications. Charged white ($TiO_2$ and polyester) and black (carbon black and polyester) nano size ink particles in size range of 200 ~ 700nm were made successively using modified non-aqueous base emulsion process. The EPD showed white reflectance of 58% and saturation voltage of ${\pm}10V$.

  • Print-through is one of the most important attributes of print quality and has long been a subject to study. However, some aspects of print through are still in need to be enlighten. In this paper, different kinds of evaluating methods for print through are compared using densitometry, brightness, and image analysis. Printing conditions including ink feed, drying condition, and emulsification rate are systematically changed to effect print-through both on uncoated and coated commercial papers. Also several inks from different makers are introduced and compared in terms of print-through propensity. From the results, densitometry is not a good indicator for print through on the papers in this study. Ink feed has a strong effect on print through, especially for uncoated paper and should be considered in a point of optimum ink feed level in real world. Contribution of faster ink(oil) absorption seems to be more competitive than that of ink(oil) evaporation resulting in severer print-through for hot drying process. It is shown that ink-water emulsification rate increases print through at mild level but easy to decrease it with lower density due to the increase of water contents in emulsion. It is believed that the effect of absorption overwhelms that of density drop at mild emulsification level. This study does not include the effect of ink attributes in detail but shows that distinctive differences in print through may be resulted from various ink-makers and is finalized with some suggestions.

  • According as gradually increasing the demand for Eco-friendly products it has been progressed fairly development at a field of printing and printing inks. The Inks are used by soy oil beginning of ink industry for preventing environment. Now it is possible to make Eco-friendly inks with vegetable ester. So it is not necessary to use petroleum-based solvents for preventing environment. But There is some problems if using vegetable ester to inks. Vegetable ester has high solubility, it causes misting and low viscosity of the Inks. So resin is required high performance. Thus, in this paper, I studied about the properties variation of the Varnish and inks According to using the phenolic modified rosin ester and Soy oil Methyl esters. The compared in order of average molecular weight by the GPC method, rheological properties were found by rotational rheometer, and emulsion behavior were compared by high speed emulsification tester.

  • $BaTiO_3$ has high permittivity so that has been applied to dielectric and insulator materials in 3D system-level package integration. In order to achieve excellent performance of device, the $BaTiO_3$ layer should be highly dense. In this study, $BaTiO_3$ thick films were prepared by the inkjet printing method using 4 vol.% $BaTiO_3$ colloidal inks and cured at $28^{\circ}C$ for 5 h after infiltration of polymer resin for non-sintered process using 3 vol.% cyanate ester emulsion ink. From the obtained results. packing density was determined to be improved by overlapping rabbit ears which were generated by coffee ring effect. We also calculated the packing densities of the films and correlated these packing densities to the measured permittivity of the films.

  • Printing inks are basically dispersions of solid pigment particles in a vehicle. Pigment flocculation and/or colloidal aggregates created by thixotrope additives form a three- dimensional network in the inks. This structure complicates the flow behaviour of inks. However, if the internal structure is formed under control, the printing process will benefit from it because the ink must satify rheological requirements over a very wide range of shear conditions. The presence of internal structure results in the following prominent non-Newtonian rheological properties: viscoelasticity, yield stress, shear thinning and thixotropy. If the components of printing inks were changed, the rheological characteristics such as viscosity, yield stress, viscoelasticity and tack value were considerably varied. Thus, in this paper, the effects of changing the content of rosin modified phenolic resin on rheological properties of the vehicle will be studied. For that, the rheological properties were found by flow, yield stress, creep and oscillation measurements using Bohlin C-VOR Rotational Rheometer. And Emulsion rheology and its microstructure will be investigated.

  • In this paper, we describe new approach of ink particle fabrication method for electrophoretic display(EPD) with low voltage and rapid response time. Nano-size ink particles which fabricated using non-aqueous base modified emulsion process and micron-scale particles by non-solvent particle fabrication process are discussed. Finally, specially designed particles and panel structure fabricated considering the interactions between particle/particle, particle/media or particle/electrode dramatically reduce the driving voltages to ${\pm}$ 10V and improve the response time of less than 100msec and white reflectance of 58% for EPD using dielectric fluid as a medium. In case of EPD adapting micron-sized electrophoretic particles and a medium of air, the saturation voltage could be reduced to ${\pm}$ 40V and having white reflectance of 45% without scarification of electrophoretic mobility of the particles.

  • In this study, when printed on a nylon material, the color strength and fastness are lower than that of a polyester material, and the nylon material shrinks due to heat and pressure, resulting in poor design and poor compatibility. To overcome this problem, we investigated the possibility of transfer DTP by adding pre-treatment process to nylon transfer DTP process. For the basic study of pre-treatment preparation, we used pure nylon material which is not compounded and dispersion ink and transfer paper applied to existing PET transfer DTP. Pre-treatment preparations were classified into three types of acryl-base polymer and pre-treated with nylon and then applied to transfer DTP to confirm their color strength and fastness. The color strength of the pre-treated nylon material increased and poly-methyl-acrylate amulsion pre-treatment showed the best color at $210^{\circ}C$, 1.5m/min and 0.3MPa. The nylon material pre-treated with washing, friction, and light fastness was judged to be more excellent and stable.

  • In this study, we have investigated the positively charged polymer particles using emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization for applications in electrophoretic displays. The FT-IR, Zeta potential and SEM characteristics showed that by emulsifier-free polymerization, the positively charged polymer particles were manufactured. Using these particles, we can obtain well-dispersed white latex particles in dielectric suspending media.
