The effect of the light on the stability of 5-fluorouracil admixture was investigated. Four sets of 5-fluorouracil admixture were prepared using 50 mg/ml injection in $5\%$ dextrose solution in PVC bags and glass bottles: (1) 5-fluorouracil 1 mg/ml concentration in glass bottles, (2) 5-fluorouracil 1 mg/ml in PVC bags, (3) 5-fluorouracil 10 mg/ml in glass bottles, and (4) 5-fluorouracil 10 mg/ml in PVC bags. In each set, one group was protected from the light (control group) and the other group was exposed to the fluorescent light (study group). All admixtures were stored at room temperature for 72 hours. Also, 5-fluorouracil injections (50 mg/ml) were prepared in plastic syringes. Half of the samples of 50 mg/ml concentration were protected from the light (control group) and the other half were exposed to the fluorescent light (study group). These were stored at room temperature for 48 hours. After visual inspection, the pHs of each admixture were determined. The 5-fluorouracil concentrations were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detection, with 5-bromouracil as an internal standard. Over the study period, no visual changes were observed. The pHs of 5-fluorouracil admixtures were in the range of $8.2\~8.5$. The peak area ratios (5-FU/5-BrU) of 5-fluorouracil admixtures protected from the light were compared with those of the admixtures exposed to the light. There was no statistically significant difference between two groups during the study period (p>0.05). In conclusion, 5-fluorouracil admixtures in $5\%$ dextrose solution exposed to the light were stable for 72 hours.
A method for the simultaneous and precise determination of lactone form and acid form monacolin K in red yeast rice by HPLC was developed in this study. The standard of acid form monacolin K was prepared by alkaline hydrolysis of its lactone form, which was purchased from Sigma company. The optimum HPLC system for the separation and quantification of acid form and lactone form monacolin K is based on the reversed-phase column, and the acidified mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile : 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) water soln : 62 :38, the low limit detection amount was 5 ng (i.e.10 $\mu$l injection of 0.5 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml) . And the optimal extracting system for monacolins in red rice was also presented here.

Carbon nanotubes (CNT) has the excellent physical characteristics in the sensor, medicine, manufacturing and energy fields, and it has been studied in those fields for the several years. We fabricated the NOx gas sensors of MOS-FET type using the MWCNT. The fabricated sensor was used to detect the NOx gas for the variation of $V_{gs}$ (gate-source voltage) with the ambient temperature. The gas sensor absorbed the NOx gas molecules showed the decrease of resistance, and the sensitivity of sensor was reduced by the NOx gas molecules accumulated on the MWCNT surface. Furthermore, when the voltage ($V_{gs}$) was applied to the gas sensor, the term of the decrease in resistance was increased. On the other hand, the sensor sensitivity for the injection of NOx gas was the highest value at the ambient temperature of $40^{\circ}C$. We also obtained the adsorption energy ($40^{\circ}C$) using the Arrhenius plots by the reduction of resistance due to the $V_{gs}$ voltage variations. As a result, we obtained that the adsorption energy also was increased with the increasement of the applied $V_{gs}$ voltages.

Recently, there are many cases to use a ship's engine performance analyzer(SEPA) to measure pressure in cylinder and top dead center(TDC) of piston of engine, and analyze its performance such as fuel injection time and horsepower as well as wear of piston ring. But, SEPA needs TDC pulses($T(1){\sim}T(n)$) generated when pistons of engine are located to the TDC position ($TDC(1){\sim}TDC(n)$), these pulses are gathered from sensors connected to gear wheel of the propeller shaft in the remote distance from the measurement point. Therefore, operators need a long wire cable(WRC) to TDC detecting sensor to get these pulses, but this method is a very uncomfortable and expensive in case of installation, and it might decrease user's purchase desire. In this paper, we design and fabricate a small and inexpensive MODEM cable(M0C) so that it may be available to transmit TDC pulse generated from sensor in propeller shaft through existing power line. We also verify the facts that this MOC can be applied to SEPA and the effectiveness of the system through the experiments.
Objectives The purpose of this study was to determine a separation method for each arsenic metabolite in urine by using a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). Methods Separation of the arsenic metabolites was conducted in urine by using a polymeric anion-exchange (Hamilton PRP X-100, $4.6mm{\times}150mm$, $5{\mu}m$) column on Agilent Technologies 1260 Infinity LC system coupled to Agilent Technologies 7700 series ICP/MS equipment using argon as the plasma gas. Results All five important arsenic metabolites in urine were separated within 16 minutes in the order of arsenobetaine, arsenite, dimethylarsinate, monomethylarsonate and arsenate with detection limits ranging from 0.15 to $0.27{\mu}g/L$ ($40{\mu}L$ injection). We used G-EQUAS No. 52, the German external quality assessment scheme and standard reference material 2669, National Institute of Standard and Technology, to validate our analyses. Conclusions The method for separation of arsenic metabolites in urine was established by using HPLC-ICP-MS. This method contributes to the evaluation of arsenic exposure, health effect assessment and other bio-monitoring studies for arsenic exposure in South Korea.

Endotoxins are part of the outer membrane of the cell wall of gram-negative bacteria and are continuously released during bacterial growth. Endotoxins typically induce severe sepsis and septic shock, which cause more than 50% of mortalities. Endotoxins are easily measured in the serum by the limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) test. However, a nonspecific result is obtained, because the high concentration of serum proteins disturbs the enzyme reaction of the LAL test. In order to solve this problem, the LAL test was performed in this study after the centrifugation of the boiled serum samples to remove the impurities. As a result, among the various conditions examined, endotoxin measurement with the LAL test was the most accurate and repeatable after centrifugation of the boiled serum at $100^{\circ}C$. Moreover, the endotoxin was accurately and repeatedly measured from the prepared sera of mice that had been administered an intraperitoneal injection of purified lipopolysaccharides (LPS) or E. coli. Therefore, the application of centrifugation to remove impurities from boiled serum gives an accurate measurement of endotoxins in the sera of normal subjects or patients, and this will lead to the improved diagnosis and prevention of diseases caused by endotoxins. In addition, the centrifugation of boiled serum samples should be considered and included in the development of endotoxin test kits.
Fluoroquinolones in muscle and egg were separated by liquid extraction and determined. The analysis was carried out using following conditions; C18 column ($150{\times}4.6mm$, $5{\mu}m$), mobile phase composed of D.W. (containing 0.4% triethylamine and phosphoric acid) : methanol : acetonitrile (780:100:120, v/v/v), quarternary pump at a flow rate of 0.9ml/min and $20{\mu}l$ of injection volume, fluorescence detector with EX 278nm/Em 456nm. The calibration range of seven fluoroquinolones showed linearity ($r^2{\geq}0.999$) at concentration range of $0.025{\sim}0.8{\mu}g/ml$. The recoveries in fortified muscle and egg represented more than 81.3%. The detection limits for ofloxacin, norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin, danofloxacin, saraloxacin and orbifloxacin were 3.1, 2.5, 3.6, 1.7, 0.9, 2.5 and $2.1{\mu}g/kg$, respectively. We also monitored fluoroquinolones residue in the sample (chicken muscle 182, cattle muscle 140, pig muscle 139, egg 212) using EEC-plate (E. coli ATCC 11303) screening and HPLC confirmation methods. The screening test results, fluoroquinolones, antibacterial substances were all negative.
Purpose: Endoscopic diagnosis of gastric cancer (GC) that emerges after eradication of Helicobacter pylori may be affected by unique morphological changes. Using comprehensive endoscopic imaging, which can reveal biological alterations in gastric mucosa after eradication, previous studies demonstrated that Congo red chromoendoscopy (CRE) might clearly show an acid non-secretory area (ANA) with malignant potential, while autofluorescence imaging (AFI) without drug injection or dyeing may achieve early detection or prediction of GC. We aimed to determine whether AFI might be an alternative to CRE for identification of high-risk areas of gastric carcinogenesis after eradication. Materials and Methods: We included 27 sequential patients with metachronous GC detected during endoscopic surveillance for a mean of 82.8 months after curative endoscopic resection for primary GC and eradication. After their H. pylori infection status was evaluated by clinical interviews and $^{13}C$-urea breath tests, the consistency in the extension of corpus atrophy (e.g., open-type or closed-type atrophy) between AFI and CRE was investigated as a primary endpoint. Results: Inconsistencies in atrophic extension between AFI and CRE were observed in 6 of 27 patients, although CRE revealed all GC cases in the ANA. Interobserver and intraobserver agreements in the evaluation of atrophic extension by AFI were significantly less than those for CRE. Conclusions: We demonstrated that AFI findings might be less reliable for the evaluation of gastric mucosa with malignant potential after eradication than CRE findings. Therefore, special attention should be paid when we clinically evaluate AFI findings of background gastric mucosa after eradication (University Hospital Medical Information Network Center registration number: UMIN000020849).

The measurement of residual chlorine as a disinfectant is very important to ensure the safety against the pathogenic microbes and to suppress injection. The portable free chlorine sensor was fabricated with a disposable strip format by a screen printing method. The strip sensors prepared with a carbon-Ag/AgCl(cathode-anode) combination exhibited less interfering responses towards combined chlorine species(especially $NHCl_2$) and oxygen than the sensors prepared with other metals(i.e., gold and platinum). Free chlorine was determined chronoamperometrically with carbon-based electrodes at an applied potential of -0.3 V(vs. Ag/AgCl). A channel was built on the strip-type electrode for easy sampling, and the resulting strip sensors were employed to determine the concentrations of residual free chlorine.

A 120kV/70A high voltage switch has been installed at Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute(KAERI) in Taejon to supply power with Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research(KSTAR) Neutral Beam Injection(NBI) system. NBI system requires fast cutoff of the flower supply voltage for protection of the grid when arc detected and fast turn-on the voltage for sustaining the beam current. Therefore the high voltage switch and arc current detection circuit are important part of the NBI power supply. There are much need for high voltage solid state switches in NBI system and a broad area of applications. This switch consisted of 100 series connected MOSFETs and adopted the proposed simple and reliable gate drive circuit without bias supply. Various results taken during the commissioning phase with a 100kW resistive load and NBI source arc shown. This paper presents the detailed design of 120kV/70A high voltage MOSFETs switch and simple gate drive circuit. Problems with the high voltage switch and gate driver during thefabrication and test and solutions are also presented.
