The injected liquid does not break-up instantly after injection for diesel engine. There is some unbroken portion, which is the liquid core(The length of liquid core is called the break-up length) in the spray. If the liquid core is longer than the depth of the bowl in the small DI diesel engine, the liquid core impinges on the surface of the piston. Once the liquid core impinges on the surface, it cannot ignite or burn rapidly and thus prolongs burning time with a degradation in thermal efficiency. The break-up length of a diesel spray in a compressure vessel was measured by an electric resistance method, A voltage was applied between the nozzle and screen, bar, needle electrode inserted at various axial and radial positions into atomizing sprays. As a result, a current flows not only in the region of liquid core but also through the droplets of the spray. It is found that the break-up length measured with screen electrode is overestimated. The break-up length of the spray is found to be proportional to the square root of the density ratio of fuel and surrounding gas. The break-up length of the spray decreases as the injection pressure and the back pressure increase.

The antipruritic effect of DA-5018m a capsaicin derivative, was examined in mice. Male ICR mice were topically pretreated with Zostrix-HP (0.075% capsaicin cream), 0.1%, 0.3% DA-5018 cream or cream base (control) twice daily for 4 days. One hour after the last application, itch was induced either by compound 48/80 ($50{\mu}g$, s.c.) or leukotriene B4 (0.03 nmol, i.d.) injection into the rostral back of the animals, and the number of scratches made by the animals at the injection site was counted for 60 min post-injection. DA-5018 cream (both 0.1 and 0.3%) significantly inhibited compound 48/80-induced scratching when compared with the cream base control (p<0.01), which Zostrix-HP showed minimal inhibition of the scratching behavior. In leukotriene B4-induced itch model, Zostrix-HP and 0.3% DA-5018 cram significantly inhibited the scratching during the first 10-min period (p<0.01). The results suggest that DA-5018 cream can be used as an antipruritic agent and warrant clinical evaluation.

Diode laser absorption system is advantageous of their non-invasive nature, fast response time, high sensitivity and real-time measurement capability. Furthermore, recent advances in room-temperature, near-IR and visible diode laser sources for telecommunication, optical data storage applications are enabling combustion diagnostics system based on diode laser absorption spectroscopy. So, combined with fiber-optics and high sensitive detection strategies, compact and portable sensor system are now appearing for a variety of applications. The objective of this research is to take advantage of distributed feed-back diode laser and develope new gas sensing system. It experimentally found out that the wavelength, power characteristics as a function of injection current and temperature. In addition to direct absorption and wavelength modulation spectroscopy have been demonstrated in these experiments and have a bright prospect to this diode laser system.

Background: Epidural steroid injection(ESI) is often adminstered to treat lower back pain, but its effect iveness on postepidural backache have not yet been determined. Methods: Sixty patients scheduled for cesarean section under epidural anesthesia were randomly assigned to receive, 1 ml of normal saline(Group 1), or 5 mg of dexamethasone (Group 2), epidurally via indwelling catheter after delivery. Results: The incidences of postepidural backache occured significantly more often in Group 1(56.7%) than in Group 2(26.7%)(P<0.05). There was a significant association between postepidural backache and multiple attempts at epidural needle placement. Conclusion: Epidural dexamethasone has a preventive effect on postepidural backache.

Background: Facet joint have been implicated as a source of chronic low back pain. Radiofrequency denervation has demonstrated the most solid evidence. To increase safety and efficacy of treatment, computed tomography (CT) guidance injection has been used in several disease. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of CT-guided radiofrequency rhizotomy in the treatment of facet joint pain. Methods: A total of 40 patients were randomized to undergo radiofrequency facet joint denervation under CT guidance or C-arm guidance. All patients were examined visual analogue scale (VAS) score before treatment, 1 month, and 3 months after treatment. Results: The VAS in both groups showed significant improvement over the 1-month interval. No significant difference in the VAS score among the group was observed. Conclusions: In this study there was no significant difference between CT guidance lumbar rhizotomy and C-arm guidance lumbar rhizotomy. Therefore CT-guided radiofrequency denervation of the lumbar facet joint was a minimally invasive technique that appears effective.

An intra-articular lumbar facet joint block with a local anesthetic and asteroid is a reliable method of diagnosis and therapy for low back pain and/or sciatica caused by lumbar facet arthropathy under fluoroscopy. We injected 40 mg of methylperdnisolone acetate and 1 ml of 0.5% bupivacaine into each lumbar facet joint to 14 patients. The results are as follows: 1) Excellent pain relief in 2 patients (14.29%) 2) Good pain relief in 6 patients (42.85%) 3) Fair pain relief in 4 patients (28.57%) 4) Non effective pain relief in 2 patients (14.29%).

One of the most serious problems in KEPCO system operation is higher fault current than the SCC(Short Circuit Capacity) of circuit breaker. There are many alternatives to reduce the increased fault current such as isolations of bus ties, enhancement of SCC of circuit breaker, applications of HVDC-BTB(Back to Back) and FCL(fault current limiter). But, these alternatives have some drawbacks in viewpoints of system stability and cost. As the superconductivity technology has been developed, the resistance type HTS-FCL(High Temperature Superconductor Fault Current Limiter) can be one of the most attractive alternatives to solve the fault current problem. To evaluate the accurate transient performance of resistance type HTS-FCL, it is needed that the dynamic simulation model considering transient characteristics during quenching and recovery state. Under this background, this paper presents the EMTDC model for resistance type HTS-FCL considering the nonlinear characteristic of final resistance value when quenching and recovery phenomena by fault current injection and clearing occurs.

Epidural steroid injection(ESI) has been a commonly applied conservative therapy for the management of chronic low back pain and sciatica. However, there are many reports concerning various local, systemic and neurological complications related to ESI. We report two cases with fatal complications after ESI for low back pain and sciatica. In both patients, ventriculitis and meningitis were causative factors to be fatal. Aseptic procedures and careful post-procedure assessment are essential to avoid serious complications following ESI.
