  • While the body of research on metadata has grown substantially, there has been a lack of systematic analysis of the field of metadata. In this study, we attempt to fill this gap by examining metadata literature spanning the past 20 years. With the combination of a text mining technique, topic modeling, and network analysis, we analyzed 2,713 scholarly papers on metadata published between 1995 and 2014 and identified main topics and trends in metadata research. As the result of topic modeling, 20 topics were discovered and, among those, the most prominent topics were reviewed in detail. In addition, the changes over time in the topic composition, in terms of both the relative topic proportions and the structure of topic networks, were traced to find past and emerging trends in research. The results show that a number of core themes in metadata research have been established over the past decades and the field has advanced, embracing and responding to the dynamic changes in information environments as well as new developments in the professional field.

  • The purpose of this article is to give the consideration to possible future research trends and methodological trends of library and information science in Korea. In order to do that, it reviews 10 research papers that are associated with research trends and methodological trends in library and information science and have been published since 1990 in Korea. These 10 papers are divided by three groups for the analysis. The results show that relatively new and various research methods as well as traditional ones should be provided to library and information science. In addition. the research-based knowledge for the library and information science professionals and research method standards for them should be developed.

  • The purpose of the study is to understand the research trends in the hypertext information retrieval. Around 30 related papers were investigated, from which three distinctive streams of research trends are grasped: 1) a trend of incorporating the traditional retrieval models, especially the query-based searching model into the hypermedia system. 2) a trend of a n.0, pplying the hypermedia system as an interface to the OPAC system, 3) a trend of incorporating the artificial intelligence techniques into the hypermedia techniques. The research on the hypermedia is going on, and the research directions will be increasingly intend to incorporate the traditional retrieval models and artificial intelligence techniques into the hypermedia system.

  • The objectives of this study are to examine changes in research on library marketing promotion from its introduction to the present using domestic journals carrying research papers on library marketing, to forecast research trends in the future, and to provide basic information for supporting future studies on subjects related to library marketing. There were a total of 3,951 papers published through the journals in the area of library and information science including 'The Journal of the Korean Society for Library and Information Science', 'The Journal of the Korea Biblia Society for Library and Information Science', 'The Journal of the Korean Library and Information Science Society', and 'The Journal of the Korean Society for Information Management' from their first issues to the present. These papers were searched using selected keywords, and after redundant papers and those not related to library marketing were excluded, 359 papers were sampled for this study and analyzed from different aspects. Findings derived from this study, with regard to trends in research paper publishing by year, with regard to trends in research paper publishing by institution, with regard to trends in research paper publishing by author, with regard to trends in research paper publishing by area, and with regard to trends in research paper publishing by library type.

  • The aims of this study were to provide a global overview of research trends in information science and to trace its changes in the main research topics over time using trends analysis. The study examined the topics of research articles published in Journal of Korean Society for Information Management between 1984 and 2009. Rather than taking a single snapshot of a given point in time, this study attempted to present a series of such pictures in order to identify trends over time. The fairly arbitrary decision was taken to divide the period under consideration into three 'publication windows': 1984-1994, 1995-2002, 2003-2009. The study revealed that the most productive areas were 'Information Service', followed by 'Information Organization', and 'Information System'. The most productive sub-areas were 'Library Service', 'User Study', 'Automatic Document Analysis', 'ILS', 'Thesaurus/Ontology', and 'Digital Library'. From the comparisons of intellectual structures of title keywords, the key research area in the field of Information Science was 'Information Retrieval'. The studies of IT applications and service system evaluation have been expanded.

  • Information behavior is an important area of research in library and information science (LIS) that has evolved over the last 75 years. The aim of this study is to investigate the recent trends of information behavior research by providing insights into emerging topical areas within information behavior. To conduct this study, the bibliographic data from Scopus was used, and the trends of information behavior were traced by using variations of key terms used in information behavior research, such as "information behavior", "information seeking behavior", and "information needs." In addition, the trends were analyzed in terms of content words in the title, highly cited journal articles, disciplinary categories, and author keywords. Information behavior research has its roots in LIS, but the findings of the study reveal that information behavior has expanded to other disciplines by intersecting a variety of topical areas. In particular, this study showed that information behavior in the health/medicine domain has become a predominant emerging topical area of research. In order to enhance our understanding of complex human behavior, future research should focus more on interdisciplinary aspects by measuring the scope of information behavior.

  • This study aims to analyse the research areas and trends of reading (reading instruction) abroad in the respect of LIS, and suggest future research tasks. First, I reviewed the controlled keywords in SU field of LISTA database and the entries of DDC 23, and identified the research areas of reading and reading instruction in overseas. Second, I analysed the research trends of this field by applying a intellectual structure analysis on 2,115 research articles (1914~2014) retrieved from a representative database in the areas of Library and Information Science (LISTA). Third, Based on the results of these analysis, I suggested the future research tasks of this field in the domain of library and information science.

  • In this study, articles of the science and technology field that had been monitored for the period from 2002 to 2013 using GTB (Global Trends Briefing) were analyzed. Specifically, the VOSviewer was used to analyze the annual science and technology trends by keyword and the science and technology standard-classification information indicated in the GTB articles, and the convergence trends were therefore monitored. The findings of this study show that active studies were under way in the fields of material science and new and renewable energy, and that convergence has progressed. This result indicates that the information of the articles on papers and patents is more reliable, as it can reflect the current trends more rapidly in the science and technology field than the paper information or the patent information that is traditionally used in analyses of science and technology information.

  • Since the paradigm of records and archives management has been shifted toward the digital records world, information science, which is related to electronic record information's creation, management, preservation, and usage, has became increasingly significant. In the context, this article studies a research trend of information science in the records and archives management field. For the study, 99 concerned articles from five academic journals published between 2000 and 2008 are analyzed. As a result, the article finds out several research trends in this field, including researchers' preferred research subjects.
