Despite the popularity of e-commerce, the understanding of preferred product types for information searches and purchase on the internet are not sufficient. This paper studies the effect of risk perception on information search behavior through online only, offline only, and on-offline together. Specially, this study classifies product types into search goods, experience goods, and credence goods. The study attempts to determine how the relationship between the perceived risk and the information search is influenced by the product knowledge level. The results show that the higher the risk perceptions about experience goods and credence goods, the more the consumer searches information through online and offline together when the consumer's knowledge level is low. When the consumer's knowledge level is high, however, the higher the risk perception regarding search goods, the more the consumer searches information through online only.
This study aims to analyze the effect of product information quality and source credibility on product arousal in fresh food website. Despite fresh food websites are selling products with various feature, prior studies have focused on consumer behavior for fresh food website characteristics or specific products without considering the feature of the products. Consumers' attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors vary depending on the feature of the product. In other words, depending on the category of product, the decision making process that consumers purchase products can be differ. So, we classify products considering the feature of these products to examine the effect of information quality and source credibility on product arousal into experience goods and search goods. We surveyed 288 consumers having experience of purchase in fresh food website and verified the hypothesis through One-way ANOVA by classifying the information quality and the source credibility as high level and low level. As a result, there was a difference in product arousal according to the product information quality level and the source credibility level for each product category exposed to the fresh food website. In experience goods, source credibility have a more important effect on product arousal than product information quality, and in search goods, product information quality have a more important effect on product arousal than source credibility.

The result of the study can be summarized as follow. First, purchased goods were greatly different in their types depending on demographic characteristics of consumers such as gender, marital status, age, educational backgrounds, income and jobs. Second, experiential characteristics of cable TV users including holding or non-holding credit cards, main channels used, the main time of watching cable TV and purchase frequency per year contributed to differences in types of purchased goods. Third, factors influencing purchase decisions were somewhat different according to types of goods. However, previous purchase experiences were most influential irrespective of the types. The result as described so far suggests that previous purchase experiences by consumers raised their chances of repurchase by removing possible risks perceived by consumers. Based on the result as above, the researcher would make the following conclusion. First. companies operating the of home shopping on cable TV should increase satisfaction by consumers by providing reliable goods and information to them. In this sense, those companies need to establish marketing strategies that vary according to demographic characteristics of consumers and at the same time provide product information necessary for fulfilling consumers' requirements. Digital knowledge and information goods as experience goods have some unique characteristics such as close to zero reproduction and distribution cost, high price volatility, and low price acceptability. For the reasons, the pricing policies of digital knowledge goods are very difficult and complicate. Also, most consumers of digital goods have experienced cognitive dissonance after buying decision. The purpose of this paper is to investigate what factors affect the price acceptability level and cognitive dissonance of digital knowledge goods buyers. This paper suggest a structural model that was established by the cognitive dissonance theory and S-O-R(Stimulus-Organization-Response) model. The model is consisted of four exogenous variables and three endogenous variables. The empirical test and statistical analysis suggest following results and practical implications. The variables such as product involvement and perception of price fairness that have positive roles to price acceptability have strong influence on the all the three endogenous variables. But the variables such as sale proneness and price mavenism that have negative roles to price acceptability have little influence on the all the three endogenous variables. In the model, the payment intention was very important mediating variable between exogenous variables and two dependent variables, ie. price acceptability and cognitive dissonance. These results imply that the digital knowledge portals must have some differentiated pricing policies to the customers who have price consciousness and price mavenism. Also, they need some special promotions to whom have positive attitude to the value of digital goods.
Online platforms often provide rating information to customers to relieve the uncertainty they encounter when purchasing experience goods. Prior research has focused mostly on the roles of rating volume and the valence of an average rating among the various possibilities. However, less frequently investigated is the effect of rating dispersion, which may be associated with uncertainty regarding how well a product fits a customer's personal preference, on new trials of experience goods. In this study, we examine the effect of rating dispersion on new trials of experience goods and identify the conditions which intensify or reduce the effect. Empirical analyses of movie box office sales data and online rating data reveal three interesting findings. First, movie sales decrease as movie ratings become increasingly dispersed. Second, the negative effect of rating dispersion on movie sales is more pronounced with more rating volume. Third, this negative effect weakens when additional information about a movie is available (i.e., higher average rating, greater star power, and time since its release). We discuss the academic and practical implications of our findings.
This study explores U.S. consumers' perceptions about fashion counterfeit goods and counter feiting and motivations for purchasing and not purchasing those goods. A qualitative research technique utilizing self-administered essay questions was used to collect data. A convenience sample of female college students(N=128) drawn from classes at Midwestern and Southern universities in the U.S. participated in this study. This study found that a majority of consumers tended to perceive that fashion counterfeit goods are merely imitations of the legitimate goods and that counterfeiting is producing and selling fake goods, but a small number of consumers associated those goods with illegally produced goods and illegal practices or violations of intellectual property rights. The major motivations for purchasing counterfeit fashion goods were found to be price/value consciousness, appearance of counterfeit goods, status consumption, availability of the goods, desire for souvenirs, and social(family and peer) influences. In addition, the major deterrents to purchasing these goods were identified as integrity/ethical judgment, poor quality of counterfeit goods, self-image/status, and unavailability of the goods. This study provides policy makers and anti-counterfeit coalitions with information to develop effective educational programs or campaigns to influence consumers' counterfeit fashion purchasing behavior.
