  • This study investigated the influence of cultural and general trend of the times on fashion trends and the hybridization of these trends. The objectives of this study were to suggest new approach method of the fashion forecasting and to find out the cultural meanings and values of fashion. Key words that explains fashion trend from spring/summer of 1995 to fall/winter of 2002 were collected from professional fashion trend journals. These terms were analysed with domain analysis based on the semantic relationship. The frequency of their appearance in each season and the aspect of their appearance in each season were analysed. The hybrids of the fashion trends were analysed longitudinally and cross-sectionally as well by investigating the cover terms that were found as a result of domain analysis. The method used in this study can be applied to future study of fashion trend in that it offers an objective view of fashion trend and can allow researchers to study fashion trend in a concrete way.

  • Aeroelastic gust response analysis plays an important role in design of aircrafts. For gust response analysis, frequency domain aerodynamics method has been typically used with generalized aerodynamic influence coefficient matrices at various reduced frequencies. However, it cannot be applied to the aeroservoelastic analysis, such as gust alleviation control. Time-domain state space (SS) models must be built. It attacks little attention that gust response analysis relies on continuous gust time-domain input signal in terms of its PSD function. The aim the current study is to provide a reduced-order modeling (ROM) method based on CFD to model gust responses for continuous gust responses for continuou gust inputs in time domain. The paper analyzed the gust response of AGARD445.6 wing subjected to the Dryden gust with ROMs and compared the difference between the rigid structure and elastic one. The results demonstrate that structure elastic effect effect should be considered in the design of aircraft.

  • Online and offline are not separate worlds, especially for adolescents. Many friends in offline settings originally met each other online, but cross-domain influences have rarely been examined. This study aims to examine how much time adolescents spend with peers in online and offline settings, and how time spent with peers influences their online and offline delinquent behaviors during their middle school years. This study used data from the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS). We focused on students for whom information was available from all three years of middle school. We used a cross-lagged panel model to examine the bi-directional effect of online and offline behaviors over time. Results show that more time spent with peers offline was associated with more offline delinquency, and more time spent with peers online was associated with more online delinquency. Cross-domain influences were also found: more time with peers offline increased online delinquency, and vice versa. However, this adverse cross-domain influence was observed only for male adolescents, not for female adolescents. Implications for intervention programs are discussed for male and female adolescents.

  • On the basis of the explicit time-domain method, an investigation is performed on the influence of the rotational stiffness and rotational damping of the vehicle body and front-rear bogies on the dynamic responses of the vehicle-bridge coupled systems. The equation of motion for the vehicle subsystem is derived employing rigid dynamical theories without considering the rotational stiffness and rotational damping of the vehicle body, as well as the front-rear bogies. The explicit expressions for the dynamic responses of the vehicle and bridge subsystems to contact forces are generated utilizing the explicit time-domain method. Due to the compact wheel-rail model, which reflects the compatibility requirement of the two subsystems, the explicit expression of the evolutionary statistical moment for the contact forces may be performed with relative ease. Then, the evolutionary statistical moments for the respective responses of the two subsystems can be determined. The numerical results indicate that the simplification of vehicle model has little effect on the responses of the bridge subsystem and the vehicle body, except for the responses of the rotational degrees of freedom for the vehicle subsystem, regardless of whether deterministic or random analyses are performed.

  • This study aims to fathom the relationship between socio-economic security and social cohesion which are two sub-domains of Social Quality, on the institutional context of welfare state. In order to grasp the institutional context of welfare state, the study adopted welfare status theory and measured socio-economic resources of individuals via the status as welfare beneficiary and welfare taxpayer. The study postulates a theoretical model that the socio-economic security domain affects the social cohesion domain. In order to verity the theoretical hypothesis, this study utilized structural equations analysis(SEM) using social survey data conducted in year 2008. Recognition of social trust was included as the core index of social cohesion, and welfare statuses, socio-economic security and social trust were inserted in the sequence. Results revealed that the amount of resource in regards to welfare status of rights had significant influence on the socio-economic security, whereas it had no significant relations in regards to welfare status of duties. The recognition of socio-economic security derived from status of welfare rights and duties were positively associated with recognition of social trust. Also, the recognition of socio-eocnomic security turned out to have significant influence on social trust. Conclusively, among the two sub-domains of Social Quality, the study found that the socio-economic domain has influence on social cohesion domain. Such results suggest that in order to enhance the overall social cohesion in Korea, more delicate arrangement of welfare institutions are required.

  • The concentration of air pollution along roads is higher than the surrounding area because ventilation efficiency has decreased due to the high-density use of space along roads in recent years. In this study, ventilation efficiency around a heavily traffic road covered by an elevated highway and hemmed in along its side by buildings is evaluated using Visitation Frequency (VF, the frequency for pollutant to return to the objective domain) and Purging Flow Rate (PFR, the air flow rate for defining the local domain-averaged concentration). These are analyzed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) based on the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model. The VF and PFR characteristics of four objective domains are analyzed in terms of the changes in wind direction and arrangements of the fencing dividing up and down direction in the road center under the elevated highway. The resulting VFs are more than 1.0 for all cases, which means that pollutants return to the objective domain restricted by the elevated highway and side buildings. The influence of the arrangement of the buildings around the objective domain and the structure in the domain on the VF is substantial. In cases where there are no obstacles under the elevated highway, the local air exchange rate in the domain tends to be improved. Using these indices, the urban ventilation efficiencies between different urban areas can be compared easily.

  • In this paper, we introduce the time-domain equalizer in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems using orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) algorithm. Since OFDM system inserts guard intervals, it shows robust performance against multi-path fading. However, in Doppler channel, inter-carrier interference (ICI) occurs because an orthogonality of sub-carriers does not maintain. A least squares (LS) algorithm is common method of time-domain equalizer, but if a channel length is longer, the performance deteriorates by noise. The multi-path fading is a summation of the different delay signal. And that has sparse properties in time-domain. Because the OMP algorithm of the compressive sensing (CS) algorithm restores the channel by choosing the important elements of sparse channel, it can reduce the influence of noise. We simulate the performance of time-domain equalizer in OFDM system with various channel environments using OMP algorithm compared with other equalization method.

  • According to shrinkage of transistor, interface traps have been recognized as a major factor which limits the process development in manufacturing industry. The traps occur through spontaneous generation process, and spread into the forbidden band. There is a large change of current though a few traps are existed at the Si-SiO2 interface. Moreover, the increased temperature largely affects to the leakage current due to the interface trap. For this reason, we made an effort to find out the relationship between temperature and interface trap. The subthreshold swing (SS) was investigated to confirm the correlation. The simulated results show that the sphere of influence of trap is enlarged according to increase in temperature. To investigate the relationship between thermal energy and surface potential, we extracted the average surface potential and thermal energy (kT) according to the temperature. Despite an error rate of 6.5%, change rates of both thermal energy and average surface potential resemble each other in many ways. This allows that SS is affected by the trap within the range of the thermal energy from the surface energy.

  • This paper represents the results of interpretation on the cause of sign changing of the striation slopes appearing in the range-frequency domain spectrogram of ship-radiated noise measured in a shallow sea. Striation patterns and dispersion characteristics simulated from a numerical model based on mode theory at various seabed conditions show that the sign changing of the striation slopes appearing in measured signal is caused by the shear property of seabed. more specifically by the shear property of the basement lying below the sediment which is estimated about 3±1m thick.

  • In this paper, local and global error estimates for the element-free Galerkin (EFG) method are proposed. The essence of proposed error estimates is to use the difference between the values of the projected stress and these given directly by the EFG solution. The stress projection can be obtained simply by taking product of shape function based on a different domain of influence with the stresses at nodes. In this study, it was found that the effectivity index is optimized if the domain of influence in stress projection procedure is the smallest that retains regularity of the matrices in EFG. Numerical tests are shown for various 1D and 2D examples illustrating the good effectiveness of the proposed error estimator in the global energy norm and in the local error estimates.
