  • For fast and accurate motion of 6-axis articulated robot, more noble motion control strategy is needed. In general, the movement strategy of industrial robots can be divided into two kinds, PTP (Point to Point) and CP (Continuous Path). Recently, industrial robots which should be co-worked with machine tools are increasingly needed for performing various jobs, as well as simple handling or welding. Therefore, in order to cope with high-speed handling of the cooperation of industrial robots with machine tools or other devices, CP should be implemented so as to reduce vibration and noise, as well as decreasing operation time. This paper will realize CP motion (especially joint-linear) blending in 3-dimensional space for a 6-axis articulated (lab-manufactured) robot (called as "RS2") by using LabVIEW$^{(R)}$ (6) programming, based on a parametric interpolation. Another small contribution of this paper is the proposal of motion blending simulation technique based on Recurdyn$^{(R)}$ V7 and Solidworks$^{(R)}$, in order to figure out whether the joint-linear blending motion can generate the stable motion of robot in the sense of velocity magnitude at the end-effector of robot or not. In order to evaluate the performance of joint-linear motion blending, simple PTP (i.e., linear-linear) is also physically implemented on RS2. The implementation results of joint-linear motion blending and PTP are compared in terms of vibration magnitude and travel time by using the vibration testing equipment of Medallion of Zonic$^{(R)}$. It can be confirmed verified that the vibration peak of joint-linear motion blending has been reduced to 1/10, compared to that of PTP.

  • The stiffness of multi-articulated industrial robots is very weak, because their structure is an articulated type with some links and joints. Thus it is known that cutting processes for metals are not accepted in machine shop well, but they have a lot of merits for cutting processes, for example, drilling, tapping, and engraving etc, because of the characteristics of their high degree of freedom. The temptation of cutting aluminium was carried out to investigate the feasibility and the limitations or constraints for cutting metals on them. First the mode shapes of 6 degree of freedom welding robot were taken and analysed, and next the cutting processes were practically carried out on it. The results of study were found out to show the feasibility of cutting processes at drilling under 6mm of tool diameter, as well as to have some limitations and constraints, for examples, feed rate, depth of cut and cutting force etc.

  • During the past decade, there were many well-established theories for the adaptive control of linear systems, but there exists relatively little general theory for the adaptive control of nonlinear systems. Adaptive control technique is essential for providing a stable and robust performance for application of industrial robot control. Neural network computing methods provide one approach to the development of adaptive and learning behavior in robotic system for manufacturing. Computational neural networks have been demonstrated which exhibit capabilities for supervised learning, matching, and generalization for problems on an experimental scale. Supervised learning could improve the efficiency of training and development of robotic systems. In this paper, a new scheme of adaptive-neuro control system to implement real-time control of robot manipulator using digital signal processors is proposed. Digital signal processors, DSPs, are micro-processors that are developed particularly for fast numerical computations involving sums and products of variables. The proposed neuro control algorithm is one of learning a model based error back-propagation scheme using Lyapunov stability analysis method. The proposed adaptive-neuro control scheme is illustrated to be an efficient control scheme for implementation of real-time control for SCARA robot with four-axes by experiment.

  • The integration of intelligent robots into manufacturing systems should positively impact the product quality and productivity. A new theory of object location and recognition using the supporting plane is presented. The unknown supporting points are determined by image coordinates, known camera parameters, and joint coordinates of the robot manipulators. This is developed by using the geometrical interpretation of perspective projection and the geometrical constraints of industrial environments. This can be applied to solve typical robot vision problems such as determination of position, orientation, and recognition of objects.

  • In this paper, an off-line programming(OLP) system is presented as the three dimensional graphic simulator and one of the human-robot interface systems for industrial robots. The OLP system has been especially developed to testify robot programs visually using three dimensional geometric modeling and graphics technologies in personal computes. A special feature is its capability of collision detection and of comparing performance of control algorithms. This paper places the focus on the structure and major characteristic of OLP system.

  • In this study, an interactive programming method for robot in electronic part assembly task is proposed. Many of industrial robots are still taught and programmed by a teach pendant. The robot is guided by a human operator to the desired application locations. These motions are recorded and are later edited, within the robotic language using in the robot controller, and play back repetitively to perform robot task. This conventional teaching method is time-consuming and somewhat dangerous. In the proposed method, the operator teaches the desired locations on the image acquired through CCD camera mounted on the robot hand. The robotic language program is automatically generated and downloaded to the robot controller. This teaching process is implemented through an off-line programming software. The OLP is developed for an robotic assembly system used in this study. In order to transform the location on image coordinates into robot coordinates, a calibration process is established. The proposed teaching method is implemented and evaluated on an assembly system for soldering electronic parts on a circuit board. A six-axis articulated robot executes assembly task according to the off-line teaching in the system.

  • In this paper, a mobile robot system which have trajectory of metal tape- type is designed and manufactured. The mobile robot for manless-transportation consists of sensor-part with ultrasonic and infrared sensor, motor-part with motor and encoder, user interface-part, central control-part and computer interface-part. The ultrasonic sensor detects obstacles which can appear during the mobile robot is move. The infrared sensor has ability which detect the metal tape trajectory and then lead the robot to a correct position. By using the mobile robot, the flexiblity of a moving trajectory is improved and cost which can happen in using a mobile robot system having trajectory is cut as well.

  • Mobile robots with omni-directional wheels can generate instant omni-directional motion without requiring extra space to change the direction of the body. Therefore, they are capable of moving in an arbitrary direction under any orientation even in narrow aisles or tight areas. In this research, an omni-directional mobile robot based on Mecanum wheels was developed to achieve omni-directionality. A CompactRIO embedded real-time controller and C series motion and I/O modules were employed in the control system design. Ultrasonic sensors installed on the front and lateral sides were utilized to measure the distance between the mobile robot and the side wall of a workspace. Through intensive experiments, a performance evaluation of the mobile robot was conducted to confirm its feasibility for industrial purposes. Mobility, omni-directionality, climbing capacity, and tracking performance of a squared trajectory were selected as performance indices to assess the omni-directional mobile robot.

  • A linear laser-vision sensor called ‘Perception TriCam Contour' is mounted on an industrial robot and often used for various application of the robot such as the position correction and the inspection of a part. In this paper, a sensor center position calibration is presented for the most accurate use of the robot-Perceptron system. The obtained algorithm is suitable for on-site calibration in an industrial application environment. The calibration algorithm requires the joint sensor readings, and the Perceptron sensor measurements on a specially devised jig which is essential for this calibration process. The algorithm is implemented on the Hyundai 7602 AP robot, and Perceptron's measurement accuracy is increased up to less than 1.4mm.

  • Recent requirements for the fast and accurate motion in industrial robot manipulators need more advanced control tech-niques. To satisfy the requirements, importance of force control is being continuously increased and the expensive force sensor is usually installed to obtain the contact force information in practice. This information is indispensable for the force control of maintaining the desired contact force. However, the sensor cost is too high to be used in industrial applications. In this paper, it is proposed to estimated the contact force occurring between the end-effector of 2 DOF robots and environ-ment. The contact force estimation system is developed based on the static and dynamic models of 2 DOF robot manipula-tors. where the contact force is described with respect to the link torque. The Extended Kalman Filter is designed and its performance is verified in simulations.
