Survey of Visual Search Performance Models to Evaluate Accuracy and Speed of Visual Search Tasks

  • Objective: This study aims to survey visual search performance models to assess and predict individual's visual tasks in everyday life and industrial sites. Background: Visual search is one of the most frequently performed and critical activities in everyday life and works. Visual search performance models are needed when designing or assessing the visual tasks. Method: This study was mainly based on survey of literatures related to ergonomics relevant journals and web surfing. In the survey, the keywords of visual search, visual search performance, visual search model, etc. were used. Results: On the basis of the purposes, developing methods and results of the models, this study categorized visual search performance models into six groups: probability-based models, SATO models, visual lobe-based models, computer vision models, neutral network-based models and detection time models. Major models by the categories were presented with their advantages and disadvantages. More models adopted the accuracy among two factors of accuracy and speed characterizing visual tasks as dependent variables. Conclusion: This study reviewed and summarized various visual search performance models. Application: The results would be used as a reference or tool when assessing the visual tasks.

Filler effect of inner-structure bonded sheet metal in shearing process (내부구조재를 가진 중공형 접합판재의 전단가공특성에서 틈새효과에 관한 연구)

  • While recent industrial structure is various, it is small quantity batch production structure, and products requiring of various functions are increasing. In order to improve the quality of the sheared surface in cutting of inner structure bonded sheet metal the cut-off operation is mainly investigated, which is the typical shearing process in sheet metal forming technology. The sandwich sheet metals considered have inner structure which is constructed in the form of crimped expanded metal and woven metal. The inner structure is bonded between solid sheet by resistance welding or adhesive bonding. The shearing process is visualized by the computer vision system installed in front of the cut-off die and the sheared surface is measured and quantitatively compared with the help of the optical microscope after cut-off operation. From test results we found that the influence of sheared position can be observed and explained clearly and this result can be utilized to get the better sheared surface.

A Development of Video Tracking System on Real Time Using MBR (MBR을 이용한 실시간 영상추적 시스템 개발)

  • Object tracking in a real time image is one of interesting subjects in computer vision and many practical application fields past couple of years. But sometimes existing systems cannot find object by recognize background noise as object. This paper proposes a method of object detection and tracking using adaptive background image in real time. To detect object which does not influenced by illumination and remove noise in background image, this system generates adaptive background image by real time background image updating. This system detects object using the difference between background image and input image from camera. After setting up MBR(minimum bounding rectangle) using the internal point of detected object, the system tracks object through this MBR. In addition, this paper evaluates the test result about performance of proposed method as compared with existing tracking algorithm.

A Study on 3D Road Extraction From Three Linear Scanner

  • The extraction of 3D road network from high-resolution aerial images is still one of the current challenges in digital photogrammetry and computer vision. For many years, there are many researcher groups working for this task, but unt il now, there are no papers for doing this with TLS (Three linear scanner), which has been developed for the past several years, and has very high-resolution (about 3 cm in ground resolution). In this paper, we present a methodology of road extraction from high-resolution digital imagery taken over urban areas using this modern photogrammetry’s scanner (TLS). The key features of the approach are: (1) Because of high resolution of TLS image, our extraction method is especially designed for constructing 3D road map for next -generation digital navigation map; (2) for extracting road, we use the global context of the intensity variations associated with different features of road (i.e. zebra line and center line), prior to any local edge. So extraction can become comparatively easy, because we can use different special edge detector according different features. The results achieved with our approach show that it is possible and economic to extract 3D road data from Three Linear Scanner to construct next -generation digital navigation road map.

Tracking of Single Moving Object based on Motion Estimation (움직임 추정에 기반한 단일 이동객체 추적)

  • The study on computer vision is aimed on creating a system to substitute the ability of human visual sensor. Especially, moving object tracking system is becoming an important area of study. In this study, we have proposed the tracking system of single moving object based on motion estimation. The tracking system performed motion estimation using differential image, and then tracked the moving object by controlling Pan/Tilt device of camera. Proposed tracking system is devided into image acquisition and preprocessing phase, motion estimation phase and object tracking phase. As a result of experiment, motion of moving object can be estimated. The result of tracking, object was not lost and tracked correctly.

  • Agriculture plays an industrial and economic role, as well as an environmental and ecological conservation role, group harmony and the inheritance of traditional culture. However, no matter how advanced the industry is, the basic food necessary for human life can only be produced through the photosynthesis of plants with natural resources such as the sun, water, and air. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) predicts that the world's population will increase by another 2 billion people by 2050, and it faces a myriad of complex and diverse factors to consider, including climate change, food security concerns, and global ecosystems and political factors. In particular, in order to solve problems such as increasing productivity and production of agricultural products, improving quality, and saving energy, it is difficult to solve them with traditional farming methods. Recently, with the wind of the 4th industrial revolution, ICT convergence technology and artificial intelligence have been rapidly developing in many fields, but it is also true that the application of new technologies is somewhat delayed due to the unique characteristics of agriculture. However, in recent years, as ICT and artificial intelligence utilization technologies have been developed and applied by many researchers, a revolution is also taking place in agriculture. This paper summarizes the current state of research so far in four categories of agriculture, namely crop cultivation environment management, soil management, pest management, and irrigation management, and smart farm research data that has recently been actively developed around the world.

  • According to the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, the number of industrial injuries in 2019 was 109,242, an increase of 6.8% from 2018. In this situation, the government and companies are discussing the development of core technologies for preventing safety accidents on site based on ICT in the field of construction and construction. In these fields, technologies using computer vision and artificial intelligence have recently been widely used. In this paper, we built training data for safety management of factory workers and trained a model based on YOLOv4. It is believed that this can be used as an initial study to predict the risk situation of workers in factories.

Two-Stage Deep Learning Based Algorithm for Cosmetic Object Recognition (화장품 물체 인식을 위한 Two-Stage 딥러닝 기반 알고리즘)

  • With the recent surge in YouTube usage, there has been a proliferation of user-generated videos where individuals evaluate cosmetics. Consequently, many companies are increasingly utilizing evaluation videos for their product marketing and market research. However, a notable drawback is the manual classification of these product review videos incurring significant costs and time. Therefore, this paper proposes a deep learning-based cosmetics search algorithm to automate this task. The algorithm consists of two networks: One for detecting candidates in images using shape features such as circles, rectangles, etc and Another for filtering and categorizing these candidates. The reason for choosing a Two-Stage architecture over One-Stage is that, in videos containing background scenes, it is more robust to first detect cosmetic candidates before classifying them as specific objects. Although Two-Stage structures are generally known to outperform One-Stage structures in terms of model architecture, this study opts for Two-Stage to address issues related to the acquisition of training and validation data that arise when using One-Stage. Acquiring data for the algorithm that detects cosmetic candidates based on shape and the algorithm that classifies candidates into specific objects is cost-effective, ensuring the overall robustness of the algorithm.

Color Restoration Method Using the Dichromatic Reflection Model for Low-light-level Environments (저조도 환경에 적합한 이색도 반사 모델을 이용한 색 복원 기법)

  • Color distortion of the dark images acquired under a low-light-level environment with a weak light source can be cause of the performance decreation of various vision systems. Therefore, recovering the original color of the images is an important process for enhancing the performance of the system. For this, this study proposes a color restoration method using a dichromatic reflection model. This paper assumes that the dark images can be classified into two parts affected by specular or diffuse reflection. Two different color constancy methods were then applied to the images to remove the effects of each reflection and two images were created as a result. The resulting images produced a one color-corrected image by combining with different weights according to the position in the images. For the performance evaluation, this paper used a synthesized image, and considered the Euclidean distance and angular error as an evaluation factor. In addition, a performance comparison was performed with the existing various color constancy method to achieve the objectivity of evaluation. The experimental results showed that the proposed method can be a more suitable solution for color restoration than the existing method.

A Method for Determining Face Recognition Suitability of Face Image (얼굴영상의 얼굴인식 적합성 판정 방법)

  • Face recognition (FR) has been widely used in various applications, such as smart surveillance systems, immigration control in airports, user authentication in smart devices, and so on. FR in well-controlled conditions has been extensively studied and is relatively mature. However, in unconstrained conditions, FR performance could degrade due to undesired characteristics of the input face image (such as irregular facial pose variations). To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a new method for determining if an input image is suitable for FR. In the proposed method, for an input face image, reconstruction error is computed by using a predefined set of reference face images. Then, suitability can be determined by comparing the reconstruction error with a threshold value. In order to reduce the effect of illumination changes on the determination of suitability, a preprocessing algorithm is applied to the input and reference face images before the reconstruction. Experimental results show that the proposed method is able to accurately discriminate non-frontal and/or incorrectly aligned face images from correctly aligned frontal face images. In addition, only 3 ms is required to process a face image of $64{\times}64$ pixels, which further demonstrates the efficiency of the proposed method.
