Face Authentication using Multi-radius LBP Matching of Individual Major Blocks in Mobile Environment (개인별 주요 블록의 다중 반경 LBP 매칭을 이용한 모바일 환경에서의 얼굴인증)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel face authentication method based on LBP matching of individual major blocks in mobile environment. In order to construct individual major blocks from photos, we find the blocks that have the highest similarity and use different numbers of blocks depending on the probability distribution by applying threshold. And, we use multi-radius LBP histograms in the determination of individual major blocks to improve performance of generic LBP histogram based approach. By using the multi-radius LBP histograms in face authentication, we can successfully reduce the false acceptance rate compare to the previous methods. Also, we can see that the proposed method shows low error rate about 7.72% compare to the pervious method in spite of use small number of blocks about 44.59% only.

  • In this article, we present the novel approach of avoiding temporal insufficiency of data blocks, jitter, which occurs due to the commencement of new session. We propose to make the sufficient amount of data blocks available on memory such that the ongoing session can survive the cycle extension. This technique is called ″pre-buffering″. We examine two different approaches in pre-buffering: (i) loads all required data blocks prior to starting playback and (ii) incrementally accumulates the data blocks in each cycle. We develop an elaborate model to determine the appropriate amount of data blocks necessary to survive the cycle extension and to compute startup latency involved in loading these data blocks. The simulation result shows that limiting the disk bandwidth utilization to 60% can greatly improve the startup latency as well as the buffer requirement for individual streams.

  • We have explored a strategy to control the supramolecular nano-structures self-assembled from rigid segments through attachment of flexible chains through microphase separation and anisotropic arrangement. Supramolecular structures formed by self-assembly of rigid building blocks can be precisely controlled from 1-D layered, 3-D bicontinuous cubic to 2-D cylindrical structures by systematic variation of the type and relative length of the respective blocks. Furthermore, depending on the individual molecular architectures, rigid building blocks self-assemble into a wide range of supramolecular structures such as honeycomb, disk, cylinder, helix, tube, barrel stave, and nano-cage.

  • Reinforced earth retaining walls have been widely used in recent years, as they are superior from the landscape perspective than normal concrete retaining walls. However, as reinforced earth retaining walls are made of various materials depending on site, existing design methods cannot secure stability, and a variety of problems have occurred. Studies on the design and stability analysis methods, which are different from existing methods, have been conducted to address these problems. This study conducted a stability investigation using numerical analysis, and blocks of reinforced earth retaining walls were individually applied, which is different from pre-existing numerical analyses. To verify the input values of the numerical analysis when applying individual blocks, real-scale experiments of the friction characteristics between the blocks and the connection properties between the blocks and stiffener were conducted. The applicability of the block conditions, which were the same as those of real sites, was verified through numerical analysis, and will be used for the stability review and design of various combinations of blocks and stiffeners.

Hydraulic Model Test on Local Scour Protecting around Bridge Piers with TTG Blocks (TTG블록의 교각국부세굴에 대한 수리모형 성능평가)

  • TTG-blocks are concrete blocks designed to be paved around the bridge piers in order to protect the channel bed from local scour. In this study roughness coefficient of T.T.G- blocks are investigated through the hydraulic model test. And critical safety weight of TTG-blocks is derived in terms of Reynolds number for each individual block and group of linked blocks. Flume experiments show that a performance of TTG-blocks is effective to protect the river channel bed from local scour at bridge piers if it is assessed using with geotextile mat under blocks or designated gravels for filling in holes of blocks.

Recognition of the Passport by Using Fuzzy Binarization and Enhanced Fuzzy Neural Networks

  • The judgment of forged passports plays an important role in the immigration control system, for which the automatic and accurate processing is required because of the rapid increase of travelers. So, as the preprocessing phase for the judgment of forged passports, this paper proposed the novel method for the recognition of passport based on the fuzzy binarization and the fuzzy RBF neural network newly proposed. first, for the extraction of individual codes being recognized, the paper extracts code sequence blocks including individual codes by applying the Sobel masking, the horizontal smearing and the contour tracking algorithm in turn to the passport image, binarizes the extracted blocks by using the fuzzy binarization based on the membership function of trapezoid type, and, as the last step, recovers and extracts individual codes from the binarized areas by applying the CDM masking and the vertical smearing. Next, the paper proposed the enhanced fuzzy RBF neural network that adapts the enhanced fuzzy ART network to the middle layer and applied to the recognition of individual codes. The results of the experiment for performance evaluation on the real passport images showed that the proposed method in the paper has the improved performance in the recognition of passport.

  • Today, an automatic and accurate processing using computer is essential because of the rapid increase of travelers. The determination of forged passports plays an important role in the immigration control system. Hence, as the preprocessing phase for the determination of forged passports, this paper proposes a novel method for the recognition of passports based on the fuzzy binarization and the fuzzy RBF network. First, for the extraction of individual codes for recognizing, this paper targets code sequence blocks including individual codes by applying Sobel masking, horizontal smearing and a contour tracking algorithm on the passport image. Then the proposed method binarizes the extracted blocks using fuzzy binarization based on the trapezoid type membership function. This paper also proposes an enhanced fuzzy RBF network that adapts the enhanced fuzzy ART network for the middle layer. This network is applied to the recognition of individual codes. The results of the experiments for performance evaluation on the real passport images showed that the proposed method has the better performance compared with other approaches.

A Proposal of GA Using Symbiotic Evolutionary Viruses and Its Virus Evaluation Techniques

  • In this paper, we propose a Genetic Algorithm (GA) using symbiotic evolutionary viruses. Our GA is based on both the building block hypothesis and the virus theory of evolution. The proposed GA aims to control a destruction of building blocks by discovering, keeping, and propagating of building blocks based on virus operation. Concretely, we prepare the group of individuals and the group of viruses. In our GA, the group of individuals searches solutions and the group of viruses searches building blocks. These searches done based on the symbiotic relation of both groups. Also, our GA has two types of virus evaluation techniques. One is that each virus is evaluated by the difference of the fitness of an individual between before and after infection of virus. Another is that all viruses aye evaluated by the difference of the fitness of an individual between before and after infection of all viruses. Furthermore, we applied the proposed GA to the minimum value search problem of a test function which has some local solutions far from the optimal solution. And, we discuss a difference of behaviors of the proposed GA based on each virus evaluation techniques.

  • This paper proposes a practical design and development for CHBM inverter based on Power Electronics Building Blocks (PEBB). It is shown that the expansion and modularization characteristics of the CHBM inverter are improved since the individual inverter modules operate more independently, when using the PEBB concept. The proposed design and control methods are described in detail and the validity of the proposed system is verified experimentally in various industrial fields.

Structural Stability, Weathering and Conservation Method of Granite Standing Sculptured Buddha at Hwangsang-dong, Kumi (구미 황상동 마애여래입상의 구조적 안정성, 풍화 및 보존방안)

  • Rock composition of the Hwangsang-dong Granite Standing Sculptured Buddha (Treasure No. 1122) in the Kumi City is biotite-hornblende granodiorite which consists of about 30 pieces of individual rock blocks of same compositions. However, the cap rocks is pebble-bearing coarse sandstone. Rock blocks of the Standing Buddha and surrounding out crops occur well developed several joint systems of $N25^{\circ}$ to $45^{\circ}W$ strike and nearly vertical (70 to $85^{\circ}SE$) dipping. Rock blocks of the Standing Buddha showed vertical, horizontal and oblique joints, and those blocks are well supported by individual blocks. However, the junction part of the blocks are under dangerous situation due 10 seriously mechanical and chemical weathering. Host rock of the Standing Buddha belongs to the HW grade, therefore mostly rock-forming minerals of the granodiorite Standing Buddha altered with clay and iron hydroxide minerals by mineralogical and chemical weathering. Near surface of the Standing Buddha show spore and mycelium of green algaes, and a joint plane alive with weeds. We suggest that if structural stability for the Standing Buddha remove essentially a unstable rock blocks from the main body, and the main body necessitate supporting by rock bolting method because of repeated unstability and minimizing stress to the rock blocks. For the opened joint planes, fractured surface and alive weeds will attempt to fill in a petro-epoxy, petro-filler and biochemical treatments for the algaes, and ground water curtain and wall seems to be necessary for water flow and diminishing humidity of the Standing Buddha.
