The stepped specimen which is subjected to step loading is modeled to study the initiation and growth of adiabatic shear band using explicit time integration finite element method. Three different clearance sizes are tested. The material model for the stepped specimen includes effects of strain hardening, strain rate hardening and thermal softening. It is found that the material inside the fully grown adiabatic shear band experiences three phase of deformation, (1) homogeneous deformation phase, (2) initiation/incubation phase, and (3) fast growth phase. The second phase of deformation is initiated after sudden shear stress drop which occurs at the same time regardless of the clearance size. The incubation time prior to fast growth phase increases, as the clearance size of the stepped specimen increases. Whereas, after incubation period, the growth rate of the adiabatic shear band decreases, as the clearance size decreases. It is also found that two adiabatic shear band may develop instead of one for the smaller clearance size.
L-canavanine was added to GAs treated barley seeds, and induced amylase activity, soluble protein content, and arginine content were mesured. Canavanine, added at the beginning of the incubation period, inhibited amylase activity and protein accumulation. Amylase activity decreased markedly by addition of canavanine at 6 hr after incubation, where soluble protein content was not affected. The addition of canavanine after 12 hr incubation did not show serioud inhibited effect on the amylase activity and protein accumulation. GAs incubation caused decrement in arginine content per mg protein, but it was somewhat recovered by canavanine treatment. The longer the time between GAs and canavanine addition was, the less the recovery ration was. Arginine content in the $\alpha$-amylase fraction (ammonium sulfate 20~50% saturation) was lower than in 0~20% fraction, but higher than in 50~80% fraction. These results and control expreiments, using cordycepin and cycloheximide, support the idea that canavanine might incorporate into protein.
The incubation time required for hatching of O. ocellatus were investigated through the processes of egg and embryonic developments by the dissecting microscopic and visual observations. And differences in ecological characteristics of the plankton mode of life or the benthic mode of life according to total numbers of the suckers on each short arm of the hatched juvenile larvae of O. ocellatus were studied by comparisons with other octopodidae species. Compared with the recent a few results reported by other researchers associated with the incubation time required for hatching by female adult mother of O. minor (73-90 days after spawning at $20.9-21.5^{\circ}C$ ranges), in this study, the incubation time required for hatching by female adult mother of O. ocellatus was 56-57 days after spawning at $11.0-20.4^{\circ}C$. Therefore, the incubation time required for hatching by female adult mother varied with Octopodidae species. In this studies, each ovarian egg laid by a female was connected to an egg string attaching to the surface of the wall or bottom of vacunt shell of Rapana venosa. Egg and embryonic developments of this species were studied in the indoor aquaria, in the specific gravity ranging 1.024-1.025. the hatched juvenile of O. ocellatus is 10.3 mm in the mean total length and 4.5 mm in mantle length, and each of its short arms has 18-20 suckers. The just hatched juvenile larvae of O. ocellatus enter the benthic mode of life (benthic larval stage) after hatching. In particular, regarding differences in ecological characteristics of the mode of life according to total numbers of the suckers, O. vulgaris may not need to have many suckers because they enter the planktonic mode of life after hatching, however O. ocellatus may need to have many suckers, because they should adapt to the benthic mode of life. And also the just hatched juvenile larvae of O. minor (bearing many suckers more than O. ocellatus) enter the benthic mode of life (benthic larval stage) after hatching. Therefore, the total number of the suckers on each short arm of the hatched juvenile larvae can be used for determining whether an octopus species has planktonic larval stages or benthic larval stage (benthic mode of life). In particular, The intracohort cannibalism phenomena appeared at the hatched juvenile larval stage because the larval stage of O. ocellatus and O. minor enter into the benthic larval stage in the early stage, unlike entering into the plaktonic larval stage in other Octopus species such as O. vulgaris: at this time, the early hatched larvae fed the late hatched larvae (they are the same species and almost same ages). Therefore, the intracohort cannibalism pheneomena occur in the just hatched juvenile stage of only O. ocellatus and O. minor.

Oxide effects experiments on massive hydriding reactions of Zr alloy with hydrogen gas were carried out at $400^{\circ}C$ under 1 atm in a $H_2$ environment with a thermo-gravimetric apparatus (TGA). Experimental results for oxide effects on massive hydriding kinetics show that incubation time is not proportional to oxide thickness. The results also show that the massive hydriding kinetics of pre-filmed Zr alloys follows linear kinetic law and that the hydriding rates are similar to that of oxide-free Zr alloys once massive hydriding is initiated. Unlikely microstructure of the oxide during incubation time, physical defects such as micro-cracks and pores were observed in the oxide after incubation time. Therefore, it seems that the massive hydriding of Zr alloys can be ascribed to short circuit paths and mechanical or physical defects, such as micro-cracks and pores in the oxide, rather than to hydrogen diffusion through the oxide resulting from the increase of oxygen vacancies in the hypo-stoichiometric oxide.
Objective: Two follow-up studies (exp. 1 and 2) were conducted to determine the effects of L-glutamine (L-Gln) supplementation on degradation and rumen fermentation characteristics in vitro. Methods: First, rumen liquor from three cannulated cows was used to test L-Gln (50 mM) degradation rate and ammonia-N production at 6, 12, 24, 36, and 48 h after incubation (exp. 1). Second, rumen liquor from two cannulated steers was used to assess the effects of five levels of L-Gln including 0% (control), 0.5%, 1%, 2%, and 3% at 0, 3, 6, 12, 24, 36, and 48 h after incubation on fermentation characteristics, gas production, and degradability of nutrients (exp. 2). Results: In exp. 1, L-Gln degradation rate and ammonia-N concentrations increased over time (p<0.001). In exp. 2, pH was reduced significantly as incubation time elapsed (p<0.001). Total gas production tended to increase in all groups as incubation time increased. Acetate and propionate tended to increase by increasing glutamine (Gln) levels, whereas levels of total volatile fatty acids (VFAs) were the highest in 0.5% and 3% Gln groups (p<0.001). The branched-chain VFA showed both linear and quadratic effects showing the lowest values in the 1% Gln group particularly after 6 h incubation (p<0.001). L-Gln increased crude protein degradability (p<0.001), showing the highest degradability in the 0.5% Gln group regardless of incubation time (p<0.05). Degradability of acid detergent fiber and neutral detergent fiber showed a similar pattern showing the highest values in 0.5% Gln group (p<0.10). Conclusion: Although L-Gln showed no toxicity when it was supplemented at high dosages (2% to 3% of DM), 0.5% L-Gln demonstrated the positive effects on main factors including VFAs production in-vitro. The results of this study need to be verified in further in-vivo study.
A new approach to the solubilization of excess activated sludge by the inoculation of lactic acid bacteria was studied to reduce the amount of sludge produced in the activated sludge treatment process. Aerobic microorganism in sludge was lysed in anaerobic condition and the cytoplasmic substance eluted was utilized as a carbon source by lactic acid bacteria. On the basis of sludge solubilization efficiency, Lactobacillus brevis and Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp mesenteroides were selected the best candidates among five kinds of Lactobacillus sp. and seven kinds of Leuconostoc sp. The sludge solubilization efficiency by heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria was more efficient than that of homofermentative bacteria. Initial value of soluble COD (sCOD) was 1050 mg/L at the initial inoculation time increased to 3070 mg/L (192% solubilization) at 96 h of the incubation time. The inoculation of lactobacillus brevis to the sludge resulted in 2824% increase in sCOD value after 96 h of incubation than the control experiment. Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp mesenteroides showed 152% increase of solubilization and 30% increase of S-COD/T-COD on 96 h of incubation time. Considering the increase of S-COD by the inoculation of Leuconostoc sp. on 24 h, 10% inoculation of lactic acid bacteria to the sludge was most effective.
High quality polycrystalline silicon is very critical part of the high quality thin film transistor(TFT) for display devices. Metal induced lateral crystallization(MILC) is one of the most successful technologies to crystallize the amorphous silicon at low temperature(below $550^{\circ}C$) and uses conventional and large glass substrate. In this study, we observed that the MILC behavior changed with abrupt variation of the amorphous silicon active pattern width. We explained these phenomena with the novel MILC mechanism model. The 10 nm thick Ni layers were deposited on the glass substrate having various amorphous silicon patterns. Then, we annealed the sample at $550^{\circ}C$ with rapid thermal annealing(RTA) apparatus and measured the crystallized length by optical microscope. When MILC progress from narrow-width-area(the width was $w_2$) to wide-width-area(the width was $w_1$), the MILC rate decreased dramatically and was not changed for several hours(incubation time). Also the incubation time increased as the ratio, $w_1/w_2$, get larger. We can explain these phenomena with the tensile stress that was caused by volume shrinkage due to the phase transformation from amorphous silicon to crystalline silicon.
The effect of soil water content on the transformation potential of N compounds derived from hydrolysis of urea applied in a reclaimed tidal soils which was saline-sodic was observed to evaluate nitrification rates of urea. Soil samples were collected from Moonpo series at the newly reclaimed area in Saemanguem. For the transformation potential of N compounds from urea (46% N), newly reclaimed tidal soils (RS) were amended with urea at the rates of 0, 10, and 20 kg $10a^{-1}$. With leachate obtained from the incubated RS in a leaching tube at $25^{\circ}C$, urea hydrolysis and nitrification were measured for a total of 30days. The cumulative amounts of $NO_3{^-}$-N in each of the four soils treated with urea was linear with time of incubation. Results showed that increase in pH occurred with increasing application rate of urea and volumetric water content due to hydrolysis of urea. The total N in the RS was decreased with incubation time, indicating that rates of urea hydrolysis was influenced by soil moisture conditions. Also, the cumulative amount of nitrate in RS gradually increased with increase in time of incubation.
Phosphorous remains as one of the most limiting nutrients to plant growth, second only to nitrogen. Research on use of biochar as a soil amendment for available phosphorus in temperate calcareous soils has limited studies compared with to tropical acidic soils. An incubation experiment to assess phosphorous availability in a biochar amended calcareous soil under inorganic (Fused superphosphate, FSP) and organic fertilizer (bone meal, BM) and respectively, at the dose of 40, 80 and $120mg\;P\;kg^{-1}$ was carried out. Soil was incubated at $25^{\circ}C$ for 70 days. Results show that the rate of increase in available P was proportional to the fertilizer application rate with or without biochar amendment. Biochar did not have a significant effect on soils amended with either fertilizeron the values of available P. However, time had a significant effect (p<0.001) on the amount of available P during the incubation period. Inorganic fertilizer treatments had recorded high amount of available P with time compared to organic fertilizer treatments. Organic fertilizer treatment sample were significantly not different from control and for most of the incubation time biochar acted as a soil conditioner. Further research is required to understand the holistic and long-term effect of biochar.

Hypoosmotic swelling test (HOST) is used for evaluating the plasma membrane function and fertilizing ability in mammal spermatozoa. However, HOS solutions and experimental conditions have not been determined clearly for assessing canine spermatozoa. This study was conducted to examine the HOS solutions and assay conditions, including incubation time (30 to 120 min), storage temperature (4, 17 and $20^{\circ}C$), semen status (fresh and frozen). Maximum spermatozoal plasma membrane swelling was obtained in an 150 mOsm Na-citrate/Fructose solutions with an incubation time for 45 min. The storage temperature and semen status affected the percentage of HOS positive spermatozoa. The HOS test adapted to canine spermatozoa in this study was simple and highly consistent assay with good repeatability. The optimal condition of HOST in canine spermatozoa is an 150 mOsm Na-citrate/Fructose solutions with an incubation time for 45 min regardless of semen storage temperature and semen status.
