  • Inconel 718 alloy, widely used as material of aircraft engine, has a good mechanical property in high temperature, strong anti-oxidation characteristics in oxidated current over $900^{\circ}C$, and also is not easily digested in the air containing sulfur, therefore, its usage as mechanical component is expanding rapidly. Even though Inconel alloy 718 is difficult to machine, it requires highly precise processing/machining to sustain its component quality of high accuracy. In this paper, general turning operation conditions arc tested to select the best cutting process condition by measuring surface roughness through implementing experiments with orthogonal array of cutting speed, feeding speed and cutting depth as processing parameters based on the Taguchi method. Optimal turning operation conditions are extracted from the proposed experimental models.

  • Inconel-600 alloy has been used as steam generator tube material for current pressurized water reactors (PWRs). The long-term operation of steam generators showed that the use of this material induced localized corrosion damages and increased tube wear of steam generator. To protect these problems, steam generator tube material is being changed to Inconel-690 alloy. Based on the current trend, we have chosen Inconel 690 as the Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400) steam generator(SG) tube material and performed the design optimization of preventive measure against tube fretting wear for the APR1400 steam generator. In this paper, we examined the technical consideration in this modification : the selection of material, wear characteristics, effect of the Egg-crate Flow Distribution Plate installation, and effect analysis of vertical strip installation.

  • Compared with Inconel 625 (ERNiCrMo-3) weld, Nb-free Alloy 59 (ERNiCrMo-13) weld with 15% Mo showed much higher resistance to hot cracking. Especially in the condition of current 350A and 30CPM of welding speed, no crack was detected at Inconel 625 fillet weld. Furthermore, it was found that the strength of Alloy 59 is sensitive to welding heat input. Up to around 14kJ/cm of heat input, Alloy 59 showed 678N/$mm^{2}$ of ultimate strength and 466N/$mm^{2}$ of yield strength. However, as heat input increased above 14kJ/cm, Alloy 59 weld could not satisfy the weld strength required for European LNG tank.

  • Recently, super heat-resistant alloy Inconel 600 come into spotlight as the material of airplane parts but this material causes lots of problems that is, reduction of machinability and attritious wear and breakage of cutting tool during turning processing due to high temperature strength and cohesion between tool material and Inconel 600. Therefore, in this study, it was purposed to determine tool material kind and to select of proper cutting range when turning process was carried out for Inconel 600. In order to these Purpose, coated carbide tool and ceramic tool was used in this experiment and the machinability of Inconel 600 was investigated from perspective of the cutting force, chipping and wear of tool and deposition phenomenon of chip.

  • Laser beam welding is increasingly being used in welding of structural steels. The laser welding process is one of the most advanced manufacturing technologies owing to its high speed and deep penetration. The thermal cycles associated with laser welding are generally much faster than those involved in conventional arc welding processes, leading to a rather small weld zone. Experiments are performed for Inconel 600 plates changing several process parameter such as laser power, welding speed, shielding gas flow rate, presence of surface pollution, with fixed or variable gap and misalignment between plate and plate, etc. The follow conclusions can be drawn that laser power and welding speed have a pronounced effect on size and shape of the fusion zone. Increase in welding speed resulted in an increase in weld depth/ aspect ratio and hence a decrease in the fusion zone size. The penetration depth increased with the increase in laser power . Welding characteristics of austienite Inconel 600 using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser are experimentally investigated. This paper describes the weld ability of inconel 600 for machine structural use by Nd:YAG laser.

  • The present article is concerned with pitting corrosion of Inconel alloy 600 at elevated solution temperatures. This article first summarized the previous works on the characteristics and the growth models of oxide film grown on alloy 600 at elevated solution temperatures. Thereafter, this article reviewed previous works on the morphological study on pitting corrosion of alloy 600 as functions of solution temperature and such anion additives as thiosulphate, sulphate, nitrate and bicarbonate ions in terms of pit morphology and its fractal dimension.

  • Inconel alloys used as nuclear power plant components have experienced intergranular stress corrosion cracking problems inspite of their good corrosion characteristics. In order to investigate the effects of heat treatments on carbide precipitation and intergranular stress corrosion cracking(IGSCC) in Inconel alloys, DSC(Differential Scanning Calorimeter), TEM, EDXS and static potential corrosion tests were carried out. Thermal treatment at $750^{\circ}C$ for 15hours in Inconel alloys increased the density of intergranular carbide. The carbides are mainly $Cr_7C_3$ in Inconel 600, and $Cr_{23}C_6$ in Inconel 690. The Cr depletion around grain boundary is not crucial factor on IGSCC. The carbides in grain boundary play an important role as acting dislocation source, and as decreasing stress around growing crack.

  • In this study, stainless steel 316L and Inconel 625 alloy powders were additively manufactured by using directed energy deposition process. And heat treatment effect on hardness and microstructures of the bonded stainless steel 316L/Inconel 625 sample was investigated. The microstructures shows there are no secondary phases and big inclusions near interfacial region between stainless steel 316L and Inconel 625 except several small cracks. The results of TEM and Vickers Hardness show the interfacial area have a few tens of micrometers in thickness. Interestingly, as the heat treatment temperature increases, the cracks in the stainless steel region does not change in morphology while both hardness values of stainless steel 316L and Inconel 625 decrease. These results can be used for designing pipes and valves with surface treatment of Inconel material based on stainless steel 316L material using the directed energy deposition.
