  • This study systematically reviewed the role of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in the assessment of molecular prognostic biomarkers in breast cancer, focusing on the correlation of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) with hormone receptor status and prognostic biomarkers. Our meta-analysis includes data from 52 studies examining ADC values in relation to estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PgR), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), and Ki-67 status. The results indicated significant differences in ADC values among different receptor statuses, with ER-positive, PgR-positive, HER2-negative, and Ki-67-positive tumors having lower ADC values compared to their negative counterparts. This study also highlights the potential of advanced DWI techniques such as intravoxel incoherent motion and non-Gaussian DWI to provide additional insights beyond ADC. Despite these promising findings, the high heterogeneity among the studies underscores the need for standardized DWI protocols to improve their clinical utility in breast cancer management.

  • The Korean Institute of Technology Satellite (KITSAT-1) is the first satellite developed by the Satellite Technology Research Center and the University of Surrey. KITSAT-1 is orbiting the Earth's orbit as space debris with a 1,320 km altitude after the planned mission. Due to its relatively small size and altitude, tracking the KITSAT-1 was a difficult task. In this research, we analyzed the tracking results of KITSAT-1 for one year using the Midland Space Radar (MSR) in Texas and the Poker Flat Incoherent Scatter Radar (PFISR) in Alaska operated by LeoLabs, Inc. The tracking results were analyzed on a weekly basis for MSR and PFISR. The observation was conducted by using both stations at an average frequency of 10 times per week. The overall corrected range measurements for MSR and PFISR by LeoLabs were under 50 m and 25 m, respectively. The ionospheric delay, the dominant error source, was confirmed with the International Reference of Ionosphere-16 model and Global Navigation Satellite System data. The weekly basis orbit determination results were compared with two-line element data. The comparison results were used to confirm the orbital consistency of the estimated orbits.

  • A metal ion detector with a submicron size electrode was fabricated by field-induced AFM oxidation. The square frame of the mesa pattern was functionalized by APTES for the metal ion detection, and the remaining portion was used as an electrode by the self-assembly of MPTMS for Au metal deposition. The conductance changed with the quantity of adsorbed copper ions, due to electron tunneling between the mobile and surface electrodes. The smaller electrode has a lower limit of detection due to the enhancement in electron tunneling through metal ions that are adsorbed between the conductive-tip (mobile) and the surface (fixed) electrode. This two-electrode system immobilized with different functional groups was successfully used in the selective adsorption and detection of target materials.

  • We measured the terrestrial nightglow of OI $6300{\AA}$ in the thermosphere (~250km) using a ground-based Fabry-Perot interferometer at the King Sejong Station, Antarcticfrom March through September, 1997. The King Sejong Station is located at high latitude geographically ($62.22^{\circ}S,\;301.25^{\circ}E$) but at mid latitude geomagnetically ($50.62^{\circ}S,\;7.51^{\circ}E$). It is therefore the strategic location to measure the temperatures of the thermosphere in the Southern Hemisphere associated with both solar and geomagnetic activities. In this study, we analyzed the observed temperatures inrelation to F10.7 and Kp indices to examine the effect of the solar and the geomagneticactivities on high-latitude neutral thermosphere. During the observing period, the solaractivity was at its minimum. The measured temperatures are usually in the range between about 600~1000 K with some seasonal variation and are higher than those predicted by semi-empirical model, VSH (Vector Spherical Harmonics) and empirical model, MSIS (Mass-Spectrometer-Incoherent-Scatter)-86.

  • A coastline is the boundary between land and ocean masses. Knowledge of coastline is essential for autonomous navigation, geographical exploration, coastal erosion monitoring and modelling, water line change, etc. Many methods have been researched to extract coastlines from the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and optic images. Most methods were based on the intensity contrast between land and sea regions. However, in these methods, a coastline detection task was very difficult because of insufficient intensity contrast and the ambiguity in distinguishing coastline from other object line. In this paper, we propose an efficient method for the delineation of coastline using interferometric coherence values estimated from ERS tandem pair. The proposed method uses the facts that a tandem pair of ERS is acquired from a time interval of an accurate day and that the coherent and incoherent values in coherence map are land and water, respectively. The coherence map was generated from ERS tandem pair, filtered by MAP filter, and divided into land and water by the determination of threshold value that is based on the bimodality of the histogram. Finally, a coastline was detected by delineating the boundary pixels. There was a good visual match between the detected coastline and the manually contoured line. The interferometric coherence map will be helpful to identify land and water regions easily, and can be used to many applications that are related with a coastline.

  • A heuristic method treating a layered ocean bottom in a ray modeling is to use the plane wave reflection coefficient for multiple-layered structure, named an one-layer assumption in this paper. We examine the validity of one-layer assumption in the case of two-layered ocean bottom, and obtain a simple inequality condition depending on the sound speed ratio, the ratio of layer thickness to source-receiver range, and the grazing angle of first reflected ray. From this inequality condition, it is shown that an one-layer assumption can be applicable to ray propagation problems at mid frequencies. Finally, numerical experiments are performed in the ocean environment similar to the East Sea in Korea. Incoherent transmission loss is calculated by the geometrical beam model with the plane wave reflection coefficient for multiple-layered ocean bottom and compared with the result of SNUPE 2.0, which is a parabolic equation package developed in Seoul National University.

  • Recently, the design-build delivery system is being generalized in domestic construction project. The design-build system is becoming an increasingly preferable alterative to design-bid-build delivering method. In design-build project, however, a large construction company and design firm make up consortium as a design-build contractor rather than single company performs design and construction work. In this case, usually the construction companies take a leading role but due to their lack of managerial know-how in the design-build system, they could miss the merits of this approach. Therefore, it is necessary to investigated throughly the function and information flows all over the design-build project. In this research suggests a process model and database in the whole phase of design-build project. This process model and database system will also support to Improve the consistency of functional process and minimize incoherent activities in each phase of design-build project.

  • A five mirror system with a reduction magnification(M=+1/5) is designed for DUV optical lithography. First, for spherical mirror systems, the numerical solutions of all zero 3rd order aberrations are derived and the 3-dimensional shape of the solution-domain is obtained. In these solutions, we select solutions which have as less residual aberrations and smaller central obscurration as possible and the aspherization is carried out to the last two spherical mirrors to obtain a system that has as higher NA as possible. Finally we obtain the system of which NA is 0.45, the central obscuration is about 25% and the resolution is about 650 cycles/mm at the 50% MTF value criterion and the depth of focus of 0.8${\mu}m$ for the nearly incoherent illumination (${\sigma}$=1.0) and the wavelength of 0.193${\mu}m$ (ArF excimer laser line).

  • Microwave response of intrinsic Josephson junctions in mesa structure formed on HgI2-intercalated Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x single crystals was studied in a wide range of microwave frequency. With irradiation of 73${\sim}$76 GHz microwave, the supercurrent branch becomes resistive above a certain onset microwave power. At low current bias, the current-voltage characteristics show linear behavior, while at high current bias, the resistive branch splits into multiple sub-branches. The voltage spacing between neighboring sub-branches increase with the microwave power and the total number of sub-branches is almost identical to the number of intrinsic Josephson junctions in the mesa. All the experimental results suggest that each sub-branch represents a specific mode of collective motion of Josephson vortices generated by the microwave irradiation. With irradiation of microwave of microwave of frequency lower than 20 GHz, on the other hand, no branch splitting was observed and the current-voltage characteristics exhibited complex behavior at hlgh blas currents. This result can be explained in terms of incoherent motion of Josephson vortices generated by non-uniform microwave irradiation.
