The lateral-torsional buckling strengths of the parabolic arches are investigated in this study. The curvatures of a parabolic arch vary along the center line of the arch. Thus, the problem is much more complicated comparing that of arches with constant curvature such as circular arches. Moreover, most of previous studies are limited to the circular arches. In this study, lateral-torsional buckling equations are derived for the arches with varying curvatures considering the warping effects. To obtain the buckling strength of parabolic arches, numerical solutions based on the finite difference technique are provided. The numerical solutions are compared with the those of previous researchers and finite element analyses. Then, the lateral-torsional strengths of parabolic arches are successfully verified. Finally, comparison study of critical buckling loads of parabolic arches with those of circular arches for the various rise to span ratios are discussed.
This paper is focused on the buckling and post buckling behaviour of rectangular corrugated board panels simply supported and subjected to compression load. The aim of the work is to understand the failure mechanism of investigated structure in order to quantify the effect of design parameters on the strength of a panel of given geometry. Two numerical models were developed adopting the finite element method. In the first one the corrugated board is represented by means of shell elements adopting an equivalent material, in the second the local structure is described in full detail modelling both straight and corrugated layers by means of shell elements and representing the connection between layers by special interface elements. The model correctness was checked by the comparison between out of plane central displacement predicted by the models and the experimental values found in literature. For the same case the effect of panel planarity error was evaluated. Finally a parametric analysis to investigate the effect of design parameters was carried out.
A number of perforated plates are utilized for the passage of the crew and the equipment, reducing weight and the arrangement of piping. Hull girders in double bottom and floor plates are the typical parts which have those plates in a ship structure, and the perforated plate is usually positioned at the place which has less loading without local strength problems. In the case of utilizing the plate inevitably at the place which has large strength, an opening of the plate has large effect on the buckling strength due to in-plane rigidity and ultimate strength. Therefore the assessments of the elastic buckling strength and the ultimate strength for the perforated plate are the essential requirements for determining the dimensions of the parts at the initial design stage. With above reason, a need of the reasonable assessments for the elastic buckling strength and the ultimate strength has evolved. The numerical series analysis with the consideration of the effect due to various aspect ratios and slenderness ratios were performed using finite element method in this research. Simple formulas for the design are also proposed from the above analysis.

In this paper, It is performing to the elastic and elasto-plastic large deformation series analysis using a numerical method for the initial deflection effect of the aluminum alloy rectangular plate in the elasto-plastic loading area patch loading size. It is assumed a boundary condition to be a simply supported condition and consider the initial deflection amplitude, aspect ratio. It examined the critical elastic buckling load and post-buckling behaviour of aluminium alloy A6082-T6 rectangular plate. It used a commercial program for the elastic and elasto-plastic deformation series analysis. If the initial deflection amplitude is smaller, the in-plane rigidity with increasing to load is reduced from the start and occurs significantly more increasing the amplitude. More higher the aspect ratio, the initial yield strength is gradually decreased, and the plate thickness thicker and occurs larger than the thin walled plate a reduction ratio of the initial yield strength of the patch loading size as 0.5.

The parametric analysis of vertically braced steel pipe arch ribs was performed to evaluate their in-plane buckling strengths and ultimate load-carrying capacities. The elastic and plastic behavior of braced arch ribs, unlike those of the usual single arch ribs, are affected by such factors as the flexural rigidity of the brace member, brace and pipe ribs spacing, loading situation, and arch curvature. To analyze these effects, several parameters were included, such as the rise-to-span ratio, the second moment of the inertia ratio of the rib to the brace member, the space ratio of the brace, the space ratio of the upper and lower ribs, the initial crookedness, the slenderness ratios of the braced arch ribs, and the loading conditions were considered with live-load-to-dead-load ratios. Based on the results of the parametric analyses, a proper profile of the braced arch rib was proposed. A large-scale structural experiment was also performed to evaluate the ultimate strength of the braced arch rib. The test results were determined to reasonably coincide with the analytical ones.
Ship structures are thin-walled structures and lots of cutouts, for example, of inner bottom structure, girder, upper deck hatch, floor and dia-frame etc. In the case where a plate has cutout it experiences reduced buckling and ultimate strength and at the same time the in-plane stress under compressive load produced by hull girder bending will be redistributed. In the present paper, we investigated several kinds of perforated stiffened model from actual ship structure and series of elasto-plastic large deflection analyses were performed to investigate into the influence of perforation on the buckling and ultimate strength of the perforated stiffened plate varying the cutout ratio, web height, thickness and type of cross-section by commercial FEA program(ANSYS). Closed-form formulas for predicting the ultimate strength of the perforated stiffened plate are empirically derived by curve fitting based on the Finite Element Analysis results. These formulas are used to evaluate the ultimate strength, which showed good correlation with FEM results. These results will be useful for evaluating the ultimate strength of the perforated stiffened plate in the preliminary design.
In ship structures many of the structural plates have cutouts, for example, at inner bottom structure, girder, upper deck hatch, floor and dia-frame etc. In the case where a plate has a cutout it experiences reduced buckling and ultimate strength and at the same time the in-plane stress under compressive load produced by hull girder bending will be redistributed In general, actual ship structure adopted reinforcement of stiffener around the cutout in order to preventing from buckling so it need to examine a buckling and ultimate strength behaviour considering a cutout because In many ship yards used class rule for calculating buckling strength but it is difficult to evaluate perforate stiffened plate with random size. In the present paper, we investigated several kinds of perforated stiffened model from actual ship and then was performed finite element series analysis varying the cutout ratio, web height, thickness and type of cross-section using commercial FEA program(ANSYS) under compressive load.
This paper focus on the buckling restrained braces (BRBs) with new casing members (CMs). Seven BRBs with CMs consisting of precast concrete modules (PCMs) were tested to investigate the effects of CMs on the cyclic performance of BRBs. The PCMs consisted of plain and reinforced concrete casted into wooden or steel molds than they were located on the core plate (CP) via bolts. There were 14 or 18 PCMs on the CP for each BRBs. The technique of the PCMs for the CM provides that the BRBs can be constructed inside the steel or reinforced concrete (RC) structures. In this way, their applications may be rapid and practical during the application of the retrofitting. The test results indicated that the cyclic performance of the BRBs was dominated by the connection strength and confinement of the PCMs. The BRBs with PCMs wrapped with fiber reinforced polymers (FRPs) sustained stable hysteretic performance up to a CP strain of 2.0 %. This indicates that the new designed BRBs with PCMs were found to be acceptable in terms of cyclic performance. Furthermore, the connection details, isolation materials and their application techniques have been also investigated for the improved BRB design in this study.

Because of their high out-of-plane and in-planes strength, trapezoidally corrugated plates have been increasingly used in buildings and bridges. If corrugated plates are used as the web of plate girders or prestressed concrete box girders, the flanges take most of the bending stress. On the other hand, the corrugated plate web supports shear stress due to the accordion effect. The corrugated plate web could fail by three different buckling modes: global, local, or interactive shear buckling. To determine the effects of geometric parameters on the buckling capacity of the corrugated plates, a parametric study was performed using finite dement method. The analysis results showed that the buckling capacity and modes depend on individual parameters as well as combinations of parameters.

The ship plating is generally subjected to combined in-plane load and lateral pressure loads. In-plane loads include axial load and edge shear, which are mainly induced by overall hull girder bending and torsion rf the vessel. Lateral pressure is due to water pressure and cargo. These load components are not always applied simultaneously, but more than one can normally exist and interact. Hence, for more rational and safe design rf ship structures, it is of crucial importance to better understand the interaction relationship of the buckling and ultimate strength for ship plating under combined loads. Actual ship plates are subjected to relatively small water pressure except for the impact load due to slamming and panting etc. The present paper describes an accurate and fast procedure for analyzing the elastic-plastic large deflection behavior up to the ultimate limit state of ship plates under combined loads. In this paper, the ultimate strength characteristics of plates under axial compressive loads and lateral pressure loads are investigated secondary buckling behavior through ANSYS elastic-plastic large deflection finite element analysis with varying lateral pressure load level.
