우리나라 예방의학교육의 미래: 희망과 도전 (Future of Preventive Medicine Education in Korea: Hopes and Challenges)

  • Throughout the century, based on the precedent set by Flexner in the United States, almost every subsequent report on the reform of medical education has pointed out the need for more prevention-oriented teaching in the curriculum. This has been particularly so in countries like Korea where the basic public health services have been so important for the improvement of health of the people. And, in fact, preventive medicine and public health have contributed a great deal to the prevention of communicable diseases and prolongation of life expectancy. Recently, however, along with the educational reform that emphasizing the interdisciplinary teaching, integration of basic science and clinical education, and centralization of responsibility for the medical education curriculum, concerns are being voiced by preventive medicine educators. These concerns are primarily centered around the fear that the implementation of interdisciplinary, centrally administered courses would result in a weakening of content and teaching expertise as well as a loss of departmental power and control. This paper foresees that preventive medicine and public health will be more important in Korea in the future and proposes that preventive medicine educators will have to step forward and turn the challenges of curricula restructuring into opportunities to expand the role of preventive medicine in the curricula of their institutions.

Driver의 학습 모형이 초등학생들의 꽃에 대한 오개념 교정에 미치는 성별, 지역별 영향 분석 (Effects of a Driver Learning Model on the Correction of Misconceptions regarding Flowers in Elementary School Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate misconceptions regarding the structure of flowers and the function of the course based on the 'Flower' section of 5th grade elementary school science courses. It also sought to investigate how misconceptions are changed before and after the application of a Driver learning model, and finally analysing any differences in the correction of misconceptions. A questionnaire was created for 199 5th grade elementary school pupils. The major results before and after using an applied Driver learning mode teaching plan are as follows: In the response for questions, 13.6% and 14.5% of misconceptions were corrected for male and female pupils, respectively. For rural and urban pupils, 14.8% and 11.2% of misconceptions were corrected, respectively. In the comparison of male and female pupils according to the reasons for selection of responses before and after using an applied Driver learning model teaching plan, 27.8% of male and 30.0% of female pupils scientific conceptions showed improvement. For rural and urban schools, 26.6% and 32.2% of scientific conceptions were improved, respectively. Data from this study may help teachers to reconsider their own conceptions regarding the study of the flower as it is presently conducted in elementary school.

초, 중, 고등학생들의 과학 교사 자질에 대한 이미지 (Images of Competencies of Science Teachers in Elementary and Secondary School Students)

  • 교육의 질을 결정하는 주요 요소 중에서 가장 핵심적인 역할을 하는 것은 교사이다. 그러므로 교육의 질을 높이기 위해서는 교사의 질을 향상시켜야 한다. 교사의 자질은 교직에서 요구되는 기능 즉, 교수 활동 뿐 아니라 생활지도, 학급경영을 수행할 수 있는 능력을 의미한다. 본 연구의 목적은 초, 중, 고등학생들이 원하는 과학 교사의 자질을 분석하고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 초, 중, 고 학생 332명을 대상으로 선호하는 과학 교사의 자질과 기피하는 과학 교사의 자질을 개방형으로 기술하도록 하였다. 그 결과 얻어진 개념들을 언어 네트워크 분석법으로 분석하였다. 이 연구의 결론은 1) 학생들은 선호하는 과학 교사의 자질은 다양한 것으로 나타났다. 이는 학생들이 과학 교사를 긍정적으로 생각하는 면이 많은 것을 의미한다. 또한 학생들에게 다양한 면에서 긍정적인 또는 선호하는 교사의 자질을 보여 줄 수 있다는 것이다. 2) 학생들은 실험을 통해서 과학 현상과 이론, 개념을 이해하고 설명해주길 바라는 것으로 나타났다. 과학 수업에서 학생들은 직접적인 활동이나 체험을 선호하였다. 3) 학생들은 과학 교사의 자질에서 수업과 관련된 내용을 중요시하고 있다. 과학 교수 학습 방법의 개선과 학생들을 긍정적으로 대함으로써 학생들의 과학 교사 나아가 과학에 대한 이미지를 높여야 할 것이다. 이 연구 결과를 기반으로 하여 과학 교사의 구체적인 교수 학습 방법에 따른 이미지 연구가 추가적으로 이루어지길 기대한다.

게임 활용 과학 학습이 중학교 학생들의 과학 태도 변화에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Game Application Science Learning on a Scientific Attitude of Middle School Students)

  • 본 연구는 8학년 '지구의 역사와 지각변동' 단원에서 수업 방법 개선을 위한 전략의 하나인 게임 활용 수업이 학습자들의 과학 태도 변화에 미치는 효과를 분석하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 연구 대상은 광역시 소재 D중학교 2학년 120명이다. 게임 활용 학습을 실시하기 전에 동질성을 가진 학급을 선택하기 위하여 학기 초 진단평가 결과와 4월말에 실시된 중간고사의 성적을 이용하였으며 진단평가와 중간고사 성적이 비슷한 남학생 4개 학급을 선정하여 두 학급을 실험집단으로, 남은 두 학급을 통제집단으로 구분하였다. 또한 중간고사 성적 상위 20% 학습자를 상위집단으로, 하위 20% 학습자를 하위집단으로 분류하여 비교하였다. 통제집단은 전통적인 수업이 이루어졌으며 실험집단을 대상으로 수업의 적용 및 정리 단계에 게임을 투입하여 10차시의 게임 활용 수업이 진행되었다. 이에 대한 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 과학에 관련된 태도 검사를 사전사후 실시한 결과 실험집단이 통제집단에 비해 수업처치 후 과학 태도 변화에서 유의미한 향상이 나타났다. 또한 실험집단내의 상위집단에 비해 하위집단에서 과학 태도면에서 유의미한 향상이 나타났다. 게임 활용 수업은 학습자들의 흥미를 유발하여 학습 참여도를 높여 주었다. 이렇듯 게임 활용 학습은 학습자들의 능동적 참여 유도를 위한 새로운 교수학습 자료로서 그 시사점이 크다.

Thinking maps를 활용한 과학글쓰기가 초등과학영재의 과학탐구능력 및 창의성에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Scientific Writing Program using Thinking maps on the Scientific Gifted Children's Scientific Process Skill and Creativity)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the science gifted children's Science Process Skiils and Creativity development by Scientific Writing Program using Thinking maps. To verify research problem, the subject of this study were third-grade students selected from two classes of an elementary scientific gifted students located in Ulsan : the search group is composed of twenty students who were participated in TScientific Writing Program using Thinking maps, and the other is composed of twenty students (comparison group) who were participated in teacher map based instruction in comparison group. Pro-test showed following results: First, the search group showed a significant improvement in the science process skills compared the comparison group. Second, the search group didn't showed a significant improvement in creativity compared in the comparison group. In conclusion, Scientific Writing Program using Thinking maps was more effective than teaching model using the teacher map on science process skill and creativity.

A Study on the Recruitment and Selection of Secondary Science Teachers in Korea

  • In this research, we investigated the historical development and ways of improvement of the teacher employment test (TET, hereafter) in Korea. This paper consists of three parts. The first part details the secondary science teacher education system in Korea. The second part elaborates upon the development of the TET since 1990's. The third part provides conclusion by addressing ways to improve science teacher education and employment systems in Korea. After all, the keen competition for teacher education and the demanding entry test ensure that secondary science teachers are selected from a pool of candidates with high academic achievement. Korean teacher employment system in general places more weight on subject knowledge. Although we cannot simply conclude that Korean science teachers must have profound knowledge in the subject matter and are competent in pedagogy, it stands to reason that the teachers could be more competent in performing their roles than those of many western countries with an acute shortage of teachers. We also suggested future directions and ways of improvement regarding teacher education and the TET in Korea.

초등학생들의 달의 위상변화에 대한 개념 유형과 수업 방법의 제안 및 효과 (Conception Types of Elementary School Students about the Moon Phase Changes and the Suggestions and Effects of Teaching Methods)

  • 이 연구에서는 삼구의를 활용한 기존의 수업 방식으로는 학생들이 달의 위상변화의 원리를 정확하게 이해할 수 없을 뿐만 아니라 교사들 조차도 제대로 된 이해가 부족한 채 지도하고 있음에 주목하였다. 따라서 삼구의를 활용한 달의 위상변화 학습에서 초등학생들이 이해하고 있는 유형을 161명의 응답 결과를 토대로 분류하고, 기존의 연구에서 개발된 학습 자료를 재구성한 교수 학습 방법을 활용함으로써 그들의 이해 유형이 어떻게 변하였는지 확인하였으며, 129명 학생들의 학업성취도에는 어떠한 효과를 미치는지 검증하였다. 그리고 교사와 학생 총 8명을 대상으로 새로운 교수 학습 방법에 대해 어떠한 생각을 갖고 있는지 심층 면담을 통해 확인하였다. 그 결과, 학생들은 크게 C 유형과 W 유형을, 세부적으로는 W1, W2, W3, W4, W5 유형으로 나눌 수 있었는데 보름달 보다는 초승달과 상현달의 위상 원리를 더 어려워하였다. 그리고 재구성한 교수 학습 방법을 활용해 보충수업을 실시한 65명의 실험집단 학생들이 지도서의 내용으로 보충수업을 실시한 64명의 비교집단 학생들보다 학업성취도 사후 검사뿐만 아니라 추후 검사에서도 효과가 있었다. 심층 면담에서도 교사 학생 모두 이 연구에서 제시한 교수 학습 방법에 대해 긍정적인 답변을 해 주었다. 결론적으로 이 연구를 통해 달의 위상변화와 관련된 활동을 삼구의를 활용해 학습할 때는 결과만을 암기하는 학습에서 벗어나 원리를 정확하게 이해할 수 있도록 초등학생들에게 도움을 주는 단계별 학습 자료를 적극 활용할 것을 강조하였다.

과흥분성 조절 전략을 적용한 초등 과학 영재교육 프로그램이 초등과학 영재의 과제 집착력 및 창의적 인성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Strategies to Encourage Modulation of Overexcitability on the Task Commitment and Creative Personality of Elementary Scientific Gifted)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a science gifted education program as a strategy for modulating gifted children's overexcitabilities and to examine the effect of such program on task commitment and creative personality. The results of this study were as follows. First, science gifted education program which modulated gifted children's overexcitabilities showed significant effect on the improvement of task commitment. Looking at sub domains, significant results were obtained at self-regulation. Second, science gifted education program which modulated gifted children's overexcitabilities showed significant effect on the improvement of creative personality. Looking at sub domains, significant results were obtained at the self-conviction and humors. Third, students who experienced the classes showed affirmative responses that the new teaching method was interesting and helpful. Looking at the above results, science gifted education program which modulated gifted children's overexcitabilities can be considered as effective for improving task commitment and creative personality of elementary scientific gifted students.

통합과학교육의 실태조사 (Survey on the status of integrated science education in middle school)

  • It is the purpose at thus survey to get hold at problems in teaching integrated science in middle school. For this purpose, problems and suggestions were collected by questionnaire which were made out by middle school science teachers. Through the analysis of the questionnaire, it was found that the present curriculum of science education in the college of education and the in-service training program were not suitable for training middle school science teacher. Form the results of the analysis, this survey concluded that the curriculum and program mentioned above need improvement as follows. (1) science education curriculum in the college of education should be set up with two part. One is the part that middle school science teachers are trained and the other is the part that high school science teachers are trained. (2) In-service training program should be set off into two kinds. One is the program that middle school science teachers are trained and the other program that high school science teachers are trained.

초등 교사를 위한 ADHD 아동 교수법 코칭 프로그램 개발 및 효과 (Development and Effects of an Instructional Coaching Program Regarding Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder for Elementary School Teachers)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the effects of a newly developed instructional coaching program regarding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) for teachers. Methods: Seventy teachers participated in this study involving a nonequivalent control group and a pretest-posttest design. The instructional coaching program consisted of eight 60-minute sessions. The program was developed through a theoretical development program involving six steps. To evaluate the effects of the program, data were collected through self-report questionnaires including the Knowledge Scale of Attention Deficit Disorder, Attitude Scale of Primary School Teachers Experiencing Students with ADHD, Practice Scale of Educational Intervention Activity, and the Korean ADHD Rating Scale. Data were analyzed with an independent t test, a chi-square test, and an ANCOVA using SPSS WIN version 20. Results: The intervention program consisted of 3 sectors, 8 subjects, and 24 content items. The experimental group showed a significant improvement in attitudes toward ADHD (F=22.83, p<.001). In addition, teacher's knowledge regarding ADHD (F=7.16, p=.010) and the implementation of instructional interventions (F=4.29, p=.043) improved. Further, teachers reported a reduction in children's ADHD-related behavior (F=4.34, p=.041). Results showed that the coaching program made a positive contribution to teaching skills and understanding of school-age children with ADHD. Conclusion: The instructional coaching program was well structured and significantly improved not only teachers'attitudes, knowledge, and teaching skills but also the behavior of children with ADHD in class. Therefore, the program is recommended as a means of facilitating teaching and managing children with ADHD in class.
