Assessment of Competitiveness Improvement on Multinational Enterprises based in Korea

  • Purpose - This study's the ultimate goal is to analyze competitiveness improvement on multinational enterprises as firstly providing which factors are to strengthen or weaken competitiveness, secondly investigating if hypotheses development and research design is correct and thirdly finding significant implications for research and practices across country specific advantage. Design/methodology - Using feedback data provided by 250 firms, we extracted variable factors and hypotheses, which were empirically carried out by reliability and validity testing, correlation analysis, path analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis to prove which factors are to make the positive effect on the improvement of overseas subsidiaries' management performance and competitiveness. Findings - Through proceeding empirical analysis study, we found out that technology management capability, knowledge management capability, and local management capability had a statistically significant effect on the improvement of overseas subsidiaries' competitiveness, while linked activity capability revealed a negative effect. Originality/value - During business globalization, overseas investments and establishment of overseas subsidiaries have been essential. It is anticipated that this study results would be meaningful for analysis on multinational enterprises' competitiveness and helpful in promoting their entry into Korean market and enhancing their competitiveness. This paper would also help Korea government develops new FDI model and induce more investment from global major companies to Korea region.

The Effect of Co-Regulated Learning Activities on the Improvement of Self-Regulated Learning Skills in Collaborative Learning Environments

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of co-regulated learning on the improvement of self-regulated learning skills in collaborative learning environments. One group pretest-posttest design was used in this study. The subjects were 49 undergraduate students who enrolled in 'Educational Evaluation' course. To facilitate students' co-regulated learning activities, group worksheets were developed. Students performed collaborative tasks in group by using the group worksheets over the 6 weeks. The results showed that the difference between means of the pretest and posttest was no statistically significant. It indicates that co-regulated learning activities did not have a significant effect on the improvement of self-regulated learning skills in collaborative learning environments. However, the results of additional analysis revealed that the difference between means of the pretest and posttest in case of 19 students with low self-regulated learning level was statistically significant. On the other hand, there was no statistically significant difference between means of the pretest and posttest in case of 19 students with high self-regulated learning level. It is interpreted that co-regulated learning activities positively affected the improvement of self-regulated learning skills of students with low self-regulated learning level.

Adjuvant에 의해 유발된 관절염 백서모델에 있어서 대방풍탕의 진통효과 (Analgesic Effect of Daebangpung-tang on a Rat Model of Adjuvant-induced Arthritis)

  • Daebangpung-tang(DBPT) is one of the prescriptions used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis(RA) in oriental medicine. The present study aimed to examine the analgesic effect of DBPT on a rat model of CFA-induced arthritis, which is not identical to human auto-immune arthritis although it does have many features in common with RA, and the relation between DBPT-induced analgesia and steroid hormones. CFA-induced arthritis rat model used to test the effect of DBPT was chronic pain model. After the induction of arthritis, rats subsequently showed a reduced stepping force of the affected limb for at least the next 18 days. The reduced stepping force of the limb was presumably due to a painful knee, since oral injection of indomethacin produced temporary improvement of weight bearing. DBPT dissolved in water was orally administrated. After the treatment, behavioral tests measuring stepping force were periodically conducted during the next 4 hours. DBPT produce significant improvement of stepping force of the hindlimb affected by the arthritis lasting at least 3 hours. The magnitude of this improvement was equivalent to that obtained after an oral injection of 3mg/kg of indomethacin and this improvement of stepping force was interpreted as an analgesic effect. The reduced stepping force was divided into three stages(10-30g, 30-50g, and 50-70g). All experiments was performed at 50-70g of stepping force, since both DBPT and indomethacin showed the most excellent analgesic effect at 50-70g of stepping force. DBPT produced the improvement of stepping force of the affected hindlimb in a dose-dependent manner and showed analgesic effect on neuropathic pain as well. DBPT-induced analgesic effect could not be blocked by systemic injection of steroid antagonist mifepristone. The present study suggest 1) that DBPT produces a potent analgesic effect on the chronic knee arthritis pain model in the rat and 2) that steroids system does not mediate DBPT-induced analgesia.

한국노인의 인지기능 향상 프로그램 효과성 메타분석: 인지기능장애집단과 일반집단 비교 (Meta-analysis of the Effects of Cognitive Improvement Programs of the Korean Elderly: Comparison of Cognitive Impairment Group and Normal Group)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 노인의 인지기능 향상 프로그램에 대한 선행연구의 결과를 인지기능장애집단과 일반집단으로 구분하고 메타분석을 이용하여 집단 간 효과크기를 비교해 보고자 하였다. 최근 5년간 국내에서 보고된 인지기능 향상 프로그램 선행연구 중에서 86편을 선정하고 메타분석을 사용하여 효과크기를 요약하였다. 연구결과, 전체평균 효과크기는 두 집단 모두 큰 효과크기를 보였다. 중재유형별 효과크기는 인지기능장애집단은 운동 중재가 높았고, 일반집단은 운동과 인지기반 중재가 유사하게 나타났다. 성별 효과크기는 인지기능장애집단은 여성으로만 구성한 경우가 높았고, 일반집단은 혼성이 높았다. 집단크기에 대한 효과크기는 인지기능장애집단은 20명, 일반집단은 21~40명이 높게 나타났다. 총회기수는 두 집단 모두 32회 이상이 높았고, 주회기수는 인지기능장애집단은 3회, 일반집단은 4~6회, 활동시간은 인지기능장애집단 55~60분, 일반집단 70~180분으로 나타나 일반집단은 회기수와 활동시간이 많을수록 효과크기가 높게 나타났다. 본 연구는 인지기능장애집단과 일반집단 간 인지기능 향상 프로그램 유형과 활동요소들에 대한 효과크기를 비교 분석함으로써 추후 프로그램 개발에 필요한 기초자료를 제공하였다는데 의의가 있을 것이다.

Heterosis and Percent Improvement in Survivability, Reproduction and Production Performance of Various Genetic Groups of Temperate x Zebu Crosses in Tropics

  • A study was conducted on 2102 records of 808 crossbred cows of various genetic groups maintained under 'All India Coordinated Research Project on Cattle' at C C S Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, over 25 years period (1968-1993) with an objective to assess and compare the amount of percent improvement and heterotic effect for different performance traits in various genetic groups produced under this programme. Survivability sharply and significantly declined from 1/2 to $3/4^th$ bred and further from $3/4^th$ to inter-se bred. This may be due to periodic and management differences in addition to the higher level of exotic inheritance and decreased heterotic effect over the filial generations. Jersey and Holstein Friesian crosses among 1/2 breds and their 50% inheritance among $3/4^th$ and inter-se breds had highest improvement and heterosis in reproduction and production traits respectively. Among inter se bred genetic groups, BFH (I) had no recombination loss in SP and CI, while FJH (I), JFH (I) and FBH (I) had on recombination loss in AFC, LY, LL and PE. The crossbreeding of zebu cows with exotic breeds brings about spectacular improvement in comparison to the performance of zebu breed, while conventional selection over several generation would lead to only modest improvement. In addition to additive effect, there was sufficient heterosis in Jersey crosses for reproduction and Holstein Friesian crosses for production performance. Three breed crosses with exotic inheritance between 50 and 75 percent incorporating genes (25 to 50%) from both of these breeds is the best combination for stabilization.

Paroxetine이 공황장애 환자의 증상 개선과 HRV 양상 변화에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Paroxetine on Symptom Improvement and Change of Heart Rate Variability of the Patients with Panic Disorder)

  • Object : Since autonomic nerve system dysfunction was known as the mechanism of panic disorder, many researchers used heart rate variability (HRV) as means of measuring autonomic nerve function of patients with panic disorder. We aimed to examine the effect of paroxetine medication for 3 months on symptom improvement and change of heart rate variability of the patients with panic disorder. Methods : The subjects were patients with panic disorder who visited the psychiatric outpatient clinic of Samsung Medical Center in Seoul. We included panic disorder patients who were aged from 20 to 50 and in normal BMI range (from 18 to 30) to minimize the effect of age and weight on HRV data. We excluded the patients with EKG abnormalities, hypertension or other major psychiatric disorders. They took 20-40 mg paroxetine medication a day for 3 months. Alprazolam was used only during the first month to control the acute panic symptoms and was tapered off after that. We measured the acute panic inventory (API), Hamilton rating scale for anxiety and depression (HAM-A & HAM-D), Spielberger state-trait anxiety inventory (STAIS, STAIT), and Beck depression inventory (BDI) in order to assess clinical improvement of the patients. And we measured time and frequency domain HRV in the resting, standing and cognitive stress states to assess the change of HRV. All measurements were done before and after paroxetine treatment. Result : After paroxetine medication, patients showed significant improvement in all psychiatric scales. In time domain of HRV, standard deviations of all R-R intervals (SDNN) were significantly increased in all states. In frequency domain of HRV, the ratio of high frequency to total power (HF/TP) in the standing state was significantly increased. Conclusion : After 3 months paroxetine medication, panic disorder patients showed significant clinical improvement and change in HRV data such as SDNN in all states and HF/TP ratio in the standing state. This result suggests that paroxetine medication is effective for the improvement of autonomic nerve system dysfunction in panic disorder patients.

  • The effort for software process improvement is lately surging its interest though it does not satisfy both developer and receiver In terms of low productivity, quality, delay and increasing cost. According to current research, software process improvement contributes to improvement of productivity, its Duality, reduction of development time and cost, and the prediction of the time limit for delivery, which means software process improvement affects competitive advantage among developers. The latest research is whether the investment for information technology substantially had effect on improvement of productivity. That is, software process improvement and maturity of software industries has influence upon economic efficiency and as a result, it plays an important role in whole industries. This research is that how does software process improvement using CMM (Capability Maturity Model) and SPICE (Software Process Improvement and Capability dEtermination) have a effect on factors of software engineering, and how does it have influence upon competitive advantage among SI firms. For this research, reusability, customizability, participation, and review & inspection are set to independent variable and process flexibility and process predictability are set to mediate Variable. Finally, competitive advantage among SI firms Is set to dependent variable. The targets for survey are laborers who work for SI firms. The result of this research is as follows: 1 ) Reusability, Customizability and participation is not rejected but review and Inspection is rejected in process flexibility which has significant level 0.05. 2) Reusability, Customizability and participation is not rejected but review and inspection Is rejected in process predictability which has significant level 0.05. 3) Process flexibility is not rejected and process predictability Is rejected in the competitive advantage of 51 industries which has significant level 0.05

달팽이 발효 추출물을 이용한 마스크 팩의 피부개선효과 (Skin Improvement Effect of Mask Pack with Snail Fermented Extract)

  • 본 연구는 2단계 발효된 달팽이 추출물을 5% 사용한 시트 마스크 팩 (2F-SEM)을 개발하였다. 이에 대한 피부미용학적 연구를 수행하기 위하여 순면 100%의 시트를 사용하여 얼굴모양으로 커팅하여 사용하였다. 플라세보 마스크 팩 (placebo mask pack; PM)과 일반 용매추출에 의한 달팽이 추출물을 사용한 마스크 팩 (Gene-SEM)에 대하여 피부 개선효과를 측정한 결과를 보고한다. 첫째; 2F-SEM의 보습효과는 PM 보다 11%, Gene-SEM는 PM 보다 4.7%가 상승되었다. 둘째; 2차 발효달팽이 추출물이 함유된 마스크 팩의 탄력도는 PM 보다 13.8%, Gene-SEM PM 보다 6.7% 이상 개선하는 효과를 보였다. 셋째; 2F-SEM의 피부 거칠기는 PM 보다 6.80%, Gene-SEM는 PM 보다 2.3%가 개선되었다. 넷째; 2F-SEM의 멜라닌감소효과는 PM 보다 15.0%, Gene-SEM는 PM 보다 8.7%이상 개선되었다. 다섯째; 2F-SEM의 잔주름개선효과는 PM보다 8.0%정도 우수하였다. Gene-SEM는 PM 보다 5.1%이상 개선되었다. 여섯째; 2차 발효 물을 이용한 2F-SEM의 관능 평가는 부드러움(softness), 보습 감(moisture), 주름개선효과(fine wrinkle improvement)에서 유의 차 있는 사용감촉을 보였다.

주부의 걷기운동 참여가 융복합차원에서 자아존중감과 스트레스 및 우울증개선에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of walking exercise on the improvement of housewives' Self-esteem, Stress, Depression in terms of convergence)

  • 본 연구는 주부의 걷기운동의 참여가 자아존중감과 스트레스 및 우울증개선에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 규명하는데 있다. 연구대상으로 30대 후반에서 40대 중반의 주부 24명(실험집단 12명, 통제집단 12명)을 선정하여, 걷기운동을 15주동안 주3회씩 총45회, 1일 지속운동시간을 30분 이상, 1일 일만보로 하여 실시하였다. 연구결과 자아 존중감, 스트레스, 우울증 개선에 집단간 주효과와 측정시점에 대한 주효과에 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 또한 측정시점과 집단의 상호작용효과에 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 결론적으로 지속적인 운동경험이 없는 주부에게 걷기운동의 참여가 자아존중감, 스트레스, 우울증 개선에 긍정적인 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 규칙적인 신체활동이 융복합측면에서 정서발달에 긍정적인 영향을 미치므로, 주부들은 지속적으로 신체활동에 참여할 필요가 있음을 시사하고 있다.

  • International concern over the environmental pollution is ever increasing, and diversified countermeasures must be devised in Korea also. Global trend, damages, problems and countermeasures with respect to issues mentioned in the Rio Declaration, such as prevention of ozone layer destruction, reduction of migratory atmospheric pollution between neighboring countries, and prevention of global greenhouse effect, were discussed in this report. Conclusion of the report is summarized as follows : A. Measurement, Planning and Monitoring (1) Development and implementation of a global network for measurement and monitoring from the global aspects such factors as related to acid rain(Pioneer substances, pH, sulfate, nitrate), effect of global temperature(Air temperature, $CO_2$, $CH_4$, CFC, $N_2O$) and destruction of ozone layer($CFC_S$). (2) Establishment of network system via satellite monitoring movement of regional air mass, damage on the ozone layer and ground temperature distribution. B. Elucidation of Present State (1) Improvement and development of devices for carbon circulation capable of accurately forecasting input and output of carbon. (2) Developmental research on chemical reactions of greenhouse gas in the air. (3) Improvement and development of global circulation model(GCM) C. Impact Assessment Impact assessment on ecosystem, human body, agriculture, floodgate, land use, coastal ecology, industries, etc. D.
