RCAR low speed impact test estimates repair cost of the impacted vehicle. In this study, for a mid-size vehicle front body model, structural performance for RCAR low speed impact were analyzed with changing the bumper stay shape and size. First, for improving the impact load transfer mechanism to side member the stay rear section shape at connecting area with side member was modified and the stay outer was redesigned to be normal to the barrier. Next, the investigation on stay thickness effect was carried out and the performances of several models with different forming shape were compared. The final design showed 13mm decrease in the maximum barrier intrusion distance and greatly reduced side member deformation. Additional analyses explained the validity of the final design.

We have developed a planar impact model with a capability of reverse calculation to reconstruct various types of automobile collisions. This topic is the main part of what is referred to as accident reconstruction. The model uses the principle of impulse and momentum, and introduces a restitution coefficient and an impulse ratio at the impact center. Based on the car-to-car collision test results, we present how to estimate the restitution coefficient and the impulse ratio from some impact conditions. To validate the model and improve its reliability in accident analysis, the collision analysis has been performer with the estimated parameters. The analysis and experimental results agree well in the kinetic energy loss and the post-impact velocity.
In this study, a drop-weight impact tester was manufactured to assess the strength of CFRP laminate plates. The tests were conducted on several laminates of different ply orientation. A system for the impact strength of CFRP laminates was made considering stress wave propagation theory using drop-weight impact tester as one of impact test. Results indicate that absorbed energy of quasi-isotropic specimen, haying four interfaces is higher than that of orthotropic laminates with two interfaces. Absorbed energy in the specimen that ply number, interface number and fiber stacking sequences is same but having hybrid is higher than that of orthotropic laminates without hybrid.

In order to reduce passenger injuries in side collisions, car makers are developing a side impact airbag system while Volvo has already adopted. This study examines dummy injury reduction effect of a side airbag system using full car side impact simulation according to FMVSS 214 test procedure. The simulation result without side airbag shows a good correlation with test data. The folded airbag simulation is carried out to check main design factors. Through the simulation with side airbag module integrated in the seat frame, it is found that the side airbag system provides a substantially enhanced protection for car occupants in side collisions.

In this study, An analysis of correlation between the vibration transmissions and the dynamic characteristics for floor impact sound insulation materials through model test was carried out. As the results, the correlation coefficients between the vibration transmissions and the dynamic characteristics for floor impact sound insulation materials were over 0.8 at the heavy and light floor impact source and less dynamic stiffness was more effective in reducing the vibration transmission.

In this paper, This study shows the content on the impact fuze test and the measurement using underwater explosion phenomena. The impact fuze has both a delay function and a super quick. Up to now, nothing but the naked eye of the observer has been used to verify performance of the impact fuze. The observer has determined the performance by the shape of the plume created from the explosion phenomenon. However, it is extremely difficult to use that method at a long range. In order to solve the problem, the measurement using the underwater explosion phenomena was tried.

This investigation evaluates dynamic fracture characteristics of two alloy steels (STD-11 and STS-3) and a gray cast iron (GC-30). The dynamic fracture toughness of crack initiation and some of the dynamic fracturing characteristics were evaluated by using the instrumented Charpy impact testing procedures. It was found from experimental results for three kinds of materials that inertia force is directly proportional to impact velocity. The duration time of inertia force was found to be constant regardless of impact velocities in steel specimens.

In this study, the effect of temperature effect of the rubber matrix filled with nano sized silica particles composites with silica volume fraction of 19-25% was investigated by the Charpy impact test. The Charpy impact test was conducted in the temperature range from $-40^{\circ}C$ to $0^{\circ}C$. The critical energy release rate GIC of the rubber matrix composites filled with nano sized silica particles was considerably affected by temperature and it was shown that the maximum value was appeared at higher temperature between temperature tested and it was shown that the value of GIC increases as temperature tested increases. The major fracture mechanisms were matrix deformation, silica particle debonding and delamination, microcrack between particles and matrix, and/or pull out between particles and matrix which is ascertained by SEM photographs of Charpy impact surfaces fracture.

The purpose of this study is to experimentally evaluate the variation characteristics of stiffness and impact resistance under the construction height of gypsum board wall at the actual construction site. The method suggested in previous study was applied on the test method of horizontal load resistance and impact resistance. As a result of horizontal load resistance test, when the wall height is 2,400 mm, the maximum displacement is 13.6 mm and residual deformation is 0.5 mm, and when the wall height is 3,000 mm, the maximum displacement is 31.3 mm and the residual displacement is 6.8 mm. As a result of impact resistance test, the residual deformation of each specimen at 20 cm of fall height were 1.02 mm and 0.08 mm, respectively, the residual deformation at 40 cm of fall height were 1.58 mm and 0.35 mm, respectively, and the residual deformation at 60 cm of fall height were 2.23 mm and 2.48 mm, respectively.
Due to the difficulties associated with the supply of steel plates, hot rolled coil (Steel grade: SM490A) is considered fur structural materials in replace of the existing SWS50A-M1. However, it is found that SM490A exhibits a significant anisotropy in terms of impact energy with respect to transverse and longitudinal directions. In this study, an experimental investigation is carried out to examine the relationship between the anisotropy in impact values and the fatigue strengths of SM490A with respect to the rolling direction of test specimens. All test specimens failed around 1,500,000 cycles regardless of the test specimen direction. Therefore, it is found that the anisotropy in impact energy is not related to the fatigue strength of the materials considered in this study. However, the transverse direction specimen showed more rapid brittle fracture mode compared to that of longitudinal direction specimen, and this appears to be related to the lower impact values in transverse direction.
