In Korea, side impact type accidents are one of the main cause of fatality. MLTM and KATRI established sie impact regulation as well as NCAP type assessments to protect occupants. Recently, WP29 formed a informal group to study a possible harmonization of pole side impact test methods with WorldSID as a GTR. In this paper, two different dummies, ES-2 and WorldSID were evaluated with three different types of pole side impact test methods.

In this study, for a safety assessment of wheelchair occupant in side impact, we used a dynamic sled impact test results. The test was carried out total 6 times and impact speed was 13g$\pm$0.43/28km/h$\pm$0.95, By using EURO SID-1 dummy, head performance criteria(HPC), abdominal peak force, etc. were measured. We evaluated wheelchair occupant safety by motion criteria(MC) which was measured by head, trunk and side deformation change of wheelchair and Head & Neck injury criteria(HNI) measured by using head and neck deformation angle and time relation. When we assumed that the maximum injury value in side impact was 100%, the results of motion criteria(MC) of wheelchair occupant were max 80.3, mim 32.3 and average 60.3%, Head & Neck injury criteria(HNI) value were max 118.4, min 14.5 and average 59.7%.

Front impacted SUV vehicle shows that the front parts of side members are collapsed by the bending due to the transverse load exerted at the end of side members. Side member models were impacted with various angles in order to study the crash performance according to the impact angle. Even for the small impact angle of $10^{\circ}$, crash performance seriously deteriorated and the deformations for impact angle $15^{\circ}$ were similar to those from the front body impact analysis. In addition, the angled front impact analysis for the straight member with hat section was carried out and the effects of inner reinforcement shape on crash performance was investigated.
Recently, in Korea vehicle market, the proportion of SUV is increasing. However Korea SINCAP(Side Impact New Car Assessment Program) doesn't reflect this circumstance. This paper focused on improvement of Korea SINCAP by comparing IIHS(Insurance Institute of Highway Safety) side impact test protocol with Korea SINCAP.
It is necessary to have a dummy that describes the anthropometry of a victim with accuracy. This study presents three scaled side impact dummies constructed for the use of MADYMO. They represent five, fifty and ninety-five percentile Korean males ranged from the age of 25 through 39. Thirty-five anthropometric data were used to scale input files required for MADYSCALE. Geometries, inertia, joints and other parameters for dummies were scaled based on the configurations of EuroSID-1. This study proposes the lateral impact response requirements for head, thorax and pelvis of Korean side impact dummies. A lateral drop impact test was conducted for the head at the height of 200 mm. Lateral pendulum impact tests were also carried out for thorax and pelvis at three specific impact velocities. All these test results were obtained from simulation based on MADYMO. All the procedures of the three tests followed the requirement of ISO/TR 9790.

The purpose of this study is to confirm the decreasing problems of residual bending strength, and the fracture machanism experimentally when CFRP composite laminates are subjected to Foreign Object Damage. Composite laminates used for this experiment are CFRP orthotropy laminated plates, which have two-interfaces [O/sub 6//sup o//90/sub 6//sup o/]sub sym/ and four-interfaces [O/sub 3//sup o//90/sub 6//sup o//O/sub 3//sup o]/sub sym/. When the specimen is subjected to transverse impact by a steel ball, the delamination area generated by impact damage is observed by using SAM(Scanning Acoustic Microscope). also, Thefracture surfaces obtained by three-point bending test were observed by using SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). Then, fracture mechanism was investigated based on the observed delamination area and fracture surface. The results were summarized as follows; (1) It is found that for the specimen with more interface, the critical delamination energy is increased while delamination-development energy is decreased. (2) Residual bending strength of specimen A is greater than that of Specimen B within the impact range of impact energy 1. 65J (impacted-side compression) and 1. 45J (impacted-side tension). On the other hand, when the impact energy is beyond the above ranges, residual bending strength of specimen A is smaller than that of specimen B. (3) In specimen A and B, residual strength of CFRP plates subjected to impact damage is lower in the impacted-side compression than in the impacted-side tension. (4) In the case of impacted-side compression, fracture is propagated from the transverse crack generat-ed near impact point. On the other hand, fracture is developed toward the impact point from the edge of interface-B delamination in the case of impacted-side tension.
Although accident data from the National Police Agency and insurance companies do not know the vehicle safety, the damage level information can be obtained from the data managed by the bus credit association or the bus company itself. So the accident severity was analyzed based on the side impact accidents using accident repair cost. K-means clustering analysis separated the cost of accident repair into 'minor', 'moderate', 'severe', and 'very severe'. In addition, the side impact accident severity was analyzed by using an ordered logit model. As a result, it is appeared that the longer the repair period, the greater the impact on the severity of the side impact accident. Also, it is appeared that the higher the number of collision points, the greater the impact on the severity of the side impact accident. In addition, oblique collisions of the angle of impact were derived to affect the severity of the accident less than right angle collisions. Finally, the absence of opponent vehicle and large commercial vehicles involved accidents were shown to have less impact on the side impact accident severity than passenger cars.

The structural safety of hydrogen buses is being evaluated for the successful introduction of hydrogen buses. The crash test methodology, for example, side impact test procedure is being discussed for hydrogen bus structure safety with a compressed hydrogen storage system located under the bus floor. Thus this study describes a new experiment method for side impact test with compressed hydrogen storage system independently based on finite element analysis instead of side impact test using full hydrogen bus. A side crash procedure of conceptual compressed hydrogen storage structure was investigated and impact simulations were performed. The finite element models of hydrogen bus, simplified structures, fuel tank system and side impact moving barrier were set up and simulation results reported model performance and result comparison of three different simplified models. Computational results and research discussion proposed the fundamental test framework for safety assessment of the compressed hydrogen storage system.
With the recent issuance of a dynamic side impact test regulation in the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard in the United States of America, many aspects of occupant protection in side impact crashes have been under investigation. Many investigations of real world accidents, crash test results and simulation studies have established that in side impact crashes of passenger cars, thoracic and pelvic injuries of occupant are, large part, caused by occupants' impact against the interior side of the vehicle, primarily the door. This paper is concerned with the development of a lumped mass computer model, which simulates the interaction of a struck car door and an adjacent seated occupant in side impacr, based CTP code which has been successfully used in vehicle and occupant simulation. New model developments include elimination of influence of vehicle side structure stiffness in the occupant injury responses. The model was used to investigated the effect of various door padding characteristics on occupant responses to improve vehicle safety performance. The evaluation of different crush properties of door padding have also focused to understand of behavior of impacted occupant. Results from simulations, The effects of both material coefficients $C_{f}$ and p were illustrated in terms of occupant injury criteria TTI and pelvis.

In recent years, WorldSID has been continuously developed and investigated to be the representative biofidelic anthropomorphic test device (ATD) as well as the device for replacement of the current EuroSID-2. In Korea, the side impact accident is one of the major severe accidents in terms of the number of accidents and fatality. Since 2003, the side crash test with a speed of 50 kph in the perpendicular direction has been initiated as a safety standard with EuroSID-1 at the first stage. Simultaneously, a 55 kph impact test has been conducted as a part of Korean New Car Assessment (KNCAP). Currently, only EuroSIDE-2 is accepted as a regulatory tool for vehicle certification and KNCAP. The tests with WorldSID are conducted experimentally in order to use WorldSID of the KNCAP in near future.
