Impact-echo test is a non-destructive testing method to determine dynamic properties of a material. This presentation introduces the experimental set-up and procedure of the test for rock specimens. In addition, the test results of domestic rocks collected in 5 different areas, a cement mortar and aluminium alloy are presented. The test results include resonance frequencies of P- and S-wave as well as damping ratios of the described 7 different materials. The differences between dynamic and static values of elastic moduli are about 10%, while the dynamic Poisson's ratios are greater than the static Poisson's ratios by at least 0.07. The damping ratio is dependent on the joint density and degree of weathering of a rock specimen.

Nondestructive testing was carried out in order to evaluate the structural integrity and construction quality of the slurry wall of the underground LNG storage tank. 9 test points were selected, and the wall thickness, rebar spacing, and compressive strength of the slurry wall were evaluated by stress wave impact-resonance method, GPR, sonic velocity, and rebound testing, respectively. As results, the wall thickness, rebar sparing and estimated compressive strength satisfy the design criteria.
The dynamic coupling between shaker and test-article has been investigated by recent research through the so called Virtual Shaker Testing (VST) approach. Basically a VST model includes the mathematical models of the test-item, of the shaker body, of the seismic mass and the facility vibration control algorithm. The subsequent coupled dynamic simulation even if more complex than the classical hard-mounted sine test-prediction, is a closer representation of the reality and is expected to be more accurate. One of the most remarkable benefits of VST is the accurate quantification of the frequency down-shift (with respect to the hard-mounted value), typically affecting the first lateral resonance of heavy test-items, like medium or large size Spacecraft (S/Cs), once mounted on the shaker. In this work, starting from previous successful VST experiences, the parameters having impact on the frequency shift are identified and discussed one by one. A simplified analytical system is thus defined to propose an efficient and effective way of calculating the lower bound frequency shift through a simple equation. Such equation can be useful to correct the S/C lateral natural frequency measured during the test, in order to remove the contribution attributable to the shaker in use. The so-corrected frequency value becomes relevant when verifying the compliance of the S/C w.r.t. the frequency requirement from the Launcher Authority. Moreover, it allows to perform a consistent post-test correlation of the first lateral natural frequency of S/C FE model.
The leakage of water under sewer pipelines is one of main sources of sinkholes in urban areas. We performed laboratory model tests to investigate the presence of cavities using impact-echo method, which is a nondestructive test method. To simulate a concrete sewer pipe, a thin concrete plate was built and placed over container filled with sand. The cavity was modeled as an extruded polystyrene foam box. Two sets of tests were performed, one over sand and the other on cavity. A new impact device was developed to apply a consistent high frequency impact load on the concrete plate, thereby increasing the reliability of the test procedure. The frequency and transient characteristics of the measured reflected waveforms were analyzed via fast Fourier transform and short time Fourier spectrum. It was shown that the shapes of Fourier spectra are very similar to one another, and therefore cannot be used to predict the presence of cavity. A new index, termed resonance duration, is defined to record the time of vibration exceeding a prescribed intensity. The results showed that the resonance duration is a more effective parameter for predicting the presence of a cavity. A value of the resonance period was proposed to estimate the presence of cavity. Further studies using various soil types and field tests are warranted to validate the proposed approach.
Resonance of railroad bridge can be broken out when natural frequency of the bridge coincides with exciting frequency of moving forces. In order to avoid aforementioned unpleasant response of the structure, exact determination of dynamic structural properties is important to understand dynamic behavior of the structure under moving train loads. In the present paper, a 25 meters long full scale IPC girder and 15m Precom girder models were fabricated as a test specimen and modal testing was carried out to evaluate modal parameters including natural frequencies and modal damping ratios. In the modal testing, a digitally controlled vibration exciter as well as an impact hammer is applied to obtain frequency response functions more exactly and the modal parameters are evaluated varying with structural status.

Non-destructive testing (NDT) methods are widely used in the construction industry to diagnose the defects/strength of the concrete structure. However, it has been reported that the results obtained from NDT are having low reliability. In order to resolve this issue, four kinds of NDT test (ultrasonic velocity measurements by P-wave and S-wave and the impact resonance methods by longitudinal vibration and deformation vibration) were carried out on 180 concrete cylinders made with two kinds of mix proportions. The reliability of the NDT results was analyzed and compared through the measurement of the actual compressive strength of the concrete cylinders. The statistical analysis of the results was revealed that the ultrasonic velocity method by S-wave is having lowest coefficient of variation and also most capable of stable observation. Analytical equations were established to estimate the compressive strength of the concrete from the obtained NDT results by relating the actual compressive strength. Moreover the equation established by the ultrasonic velocity method by S-wave had the highest coefficient of determination. Further studies on the stability of non-destructive testing depending on various mixing conditions will be necessary in the future.
The purpose of this study is to know about solution of insecurity sense for solving the tediousness and inducing comfortableness in long time MRI examination. Studies were examined with total of 117 patients that the intention expression of self is possible for a month without dividing man and woman in november 2006. Examination methods were filled in questionnaire after testing using Siemens Impact 1.0T. The musical art were selected through intranet search and record sale inquiry using CD player and speaker. That kind of a music were selected with Korean classical music's 10 chapter, pop song 10's chapter, classic's 10 chapter and Korean popular song's 10 chapter. With analytical method, patients of under 40 year-old, or older and patients using ear-pad and head-phone were classified into groups. As analysis result with question item of questionnaire, most of the patients were showed a favor(36.72%) in playing a music, specially, examination of about 15.38% which uses the headphone prefer a music as older generation of over 40 year-old. In conclusion, with installing of the professional musical program in MRI test rooms, if listening to the music with selection by oneself before testing by season, age, time through development of appropriate musical program will be able to expect the more effect.

Among several non-destructive testing methods, ultrasonic pulse velocity method has been widely used for the evaluation of concrete strength. However, this method might not provide accurate estimated results since factors influencing the relationship between strength and wave velocity is not considered. In this study, the evaluation methods of concrete strength using compression wave velocities measured by either ultrasonic pulse velocity method or impact-resonance method are proposed. A basic equation is obtained by the linear regression with velocity vs. strength data at a specific age and then, ageing factor is employed in the equation to consider the difference of the increasing rate between wave velocity and strength. Strengths predicted by the proposed equation agree well with test results.
The usage of nondestructive testing on early-aged concrete leads to enhacned safty and allows effective scheduling of construction, thus making it possible to maximize the time and cost efficiencies. In this study, a reliable nondestructive strength evaluation method for early-aged concrete using the longitudinal wave velocity is proposed. Compression tests were performed to examine factors influencing the velocity-strength relationship of concrete, such as water-cement (w/c) ratio, fine aggregate ratio, curing temperature, and curing condition. The test results show that a change in the w/c ratio and curing temperature has minor effect on the velocity-strength relationship/ However, curing condition significantly influences the velocity-strength relationship of early-aged concrete. Moreover, the longitudinal wave velocity increases with decreasing fine aggregate ratio. It is concluded from this study that the strength evaluation of early-age concrete can be achieved by a nonlinear equation which considers the effects of curing condition and fine aggregate ratio.

As fiber reinforced composite materials are widely used in aircraft, space structures and robot arms, the study on the non-destructive testing methods of the composite materials has become an important research area for improving their reliability and safety. In this paper, the AE signal analyzer with the resonance circuit to extract the specified frequency of the acoustic emission signal were designed and fabricated. The noise levels of the fabricated AE signal analyzer by the disturbance such as impact or mechanical vibration had a very small value comparable to those of the conventional AE signal analyzer. Also, the crack detection capabilities of the fabricated AE signal analyzer under the static and dynamic tensile test were evaluated and compared with the conventional AE signal analyzer.
