  • Nishikida et al. (2006) presented the first far-ultraviolet (FUV) em${\lambda}$ission-line images of the Vela supernova remnant (SNR) obtained with FIMS/SPEAR instrument. Those include C III ${\lambda}$977, O VI ${\lambda}{\lambda}$1032, 1038, Si IV+O IV] ${\lambda}{\lambda}$1393, 1403 (un-resolved), C IV ${\lambda}{\lambda}$1548, 1551 emission-line images. As a following work, we re-constructed these emission-line images using the new-version processed FIMS/SPEAR data. Additionally, we made N IV] ${\lambda}$1486, He II ${\lambda}$1640.5, O III] ${\lambda}{\lambda}$1661, 1666 emission-line images. The new-version images cover the whole region of the Vela SNR and show more resolved features than the old-version. We compare these FUV emission-line images with other wavelength (X-ray, optical, etc.) images obtained in previous studies.

  • We have developed mathematically precise image-processing algorithms for extracting rectilinear images from fisheye images as well as digital pan/tilt/zoom technology. Using this technology, vertical lines always appear as vertical lines in the panned and/or tilted images. Furthermore, polygonal panoramic images composed of multiple rectilinear images have been obtained using the developed digital pan/tilt technology.

  • We obtained three-color composite. images of 78 celestial objects most of which are listed in Messier catalogue. In order to make color images, 118 raw image sets were taken with B, V, R, I and H-alpha filters. We used the 2k CCD camera attached to the 1.8 m telescope of Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory. These composite images are to be used for educational purposes or public releases. The images are presented on the website, http://www.boao.re.kr/-ybjeon/boao_images.htrnl.

  • The area of discourse analysis has long neglected the value of images as a semiotic resource in communication. This paper suggests that like language, images are rich in meaning potential and are governed by visual grammar structures which can be utilized to decode the meanings of images. Employing a theoretical framework in visual communication, two digital images are examined for their representational and interactive dimensions and the dimensions' relation to the magazine advertisement genre. The results show that the framework identified narrative and conceptual processes, relations between participants and viewers, and symbolic attributes of the images, which all contribute to the sociological interpretations of the images. The identities and relationships between viewers and participants suggested in the images signify desirable qualities that may be associated to the product of the advertiser. The findings support the theory of visual grammar and highlight the potential of images to convey multi-layered meanings.

  • In this paper, we propose a 3D display method combining a pickup process using axially recorded multiple images and an integral imaging display process. First, we extract the color and depth information of 3D objects for displaying 3D images from axially recorded multiple 2D images. Next, using the extracted depth map and color images, elemental images are computationally synthesized based on a ray mapping model between 3D space and an elemental image plane. Finally, we display 3D images optically by an integral imaging system with a lenslet array. To show the usefulness of the proposed system, we carry out optical experiments for 3D objects and present the experimental results.

  • Edge detection is an important problem in computer vision and image understanding. Because the threshold is difficult to properly determine, edge images gained by the usually gradient-based segmentation methods are often tend to have many disjoint or overlapping boundaries, which makes the edge images spinous. In this paper, a practical multilevel morphological filter is presented for smoothing spinous edge images. The experimental results show that the method is effective in dealing with the images of a target in the sky.

  • This study tried to analyze error range and resolution of drone images using a rotary wing by comparing them with field measurement results and to analyze stands patterns in actual vegetation map preparation by comparing drone images with aerial images provided by National Geographic Information Institute of Korea. A total of 11 ground control points (GCPs) were selected in the area, and coordinates of the points were identified. In the analysis of aerial images taken by a drone, error per pixel was analyzed to be 0.284 cm. Also, digital elevation model (DEM), digital surface model (DSM), and orthomosaic image were abstracted. When drone images were comparatively analyzed with coordinates of ground control points (GCPs), root mean square error (RMSE) was analyzed as 2.36, 1.37, and 5.15 m in the direction of X, Y, and Z. Because of this error, there were some differences in locations between images edited after field measurement and images edited without field measurement. Also, drone images taken in the stream and the forest and 51 and 25 cm resolution aerial images provided by the National Geographic Information Institute of Korea were compared to identify stands patterns. To have a standard to classify polygons according to each aerial image, image analysis software (eCognition) was used. As a result, it was analyzed that drone images made more precise polygons than 51 and 25 cm resolution images provided by the National Geographic Information Institute of Korea. Therefore, if we utilize drones appropriately according to characteristics of subject, we can have advantages in vegetation change survey and general monitoring survey as it can acquire detailed information and can take images continuously.

  • This study tries to connect the 'four-elements metaphor' of Bachelard with architectural Images of Coop Himmelblau. Two basic terms of 'phenomenology of imagination' and 'material image' are explored firstly to understand the meaning and value of Bachelardienne four-elements in architectural discourse. The material images of air, fire, water, and clay are applied to the analysis of architectural experience of Busan Cinema Center(BCC) which is selected among works of Himmelblau by reason of its integrity of the four-elements' images. After elaborate Bachelardienne description of the images of BCC, the study examines whole Himmelblau's works since 1968 chronologically from the perspective of the four-elements' architectural images which are found in the analysis of BCC. The study of BCC could discover the images of air in two roofs, the images of fire in Double cone, the images of water in outdoor cinema, Dureraum square, flying brides, and the images of clay in Cinemountain and BIFF Hill. The chronological study found that Himmelblau had started their projects with the images of air in 1968 and tried the fire from 1978, and their regular examination of water and clay images had begun in mid 90's. After 2000, they could show a certain harmony of the four elements in their works.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the fashion images implied in men's fashion trends and systematize the characteristics of the textile materials used for fashion images, by analyzing men's fashion trends published by Korean fashion information service companies. This study would be meaningful if it can suggest some objective criteria for the characteristics of textile per fashion image. The researcher analyzed the data on the basis of 8 fashion images, which were ethnic, modern, traditional, avant-garde, active, romantic, natural, techno ones. Above men's fashion images were choosed by analyze the some literatures and men's fashion trend information. The data used for this study were information about S/S and F/W men's fashion trends published by Interfashion planning, Samsung fashion Research Center for the period of 1995-2000. The data collected were subject to “content analysis method”. As a result of the analysis, the major images of 1995-2000 were natural, active, traditional, modern, ethnic, avant-garde, techno images, and while such combinations of conflicting images as ethnic/modern, traditional/avant-garde, natural/techno. Other mixed images were ethnic/natural, modern/active, tradional/active, traditional/modern, romantic/modern, ethnic/romantic, traditional/natural, modern/natural, active/natural, active/traditional/natural, etc. The various characteristics of eight men's fashion images were found in color, pattern and textile materials.

  • With the advance of radar technologies, the availability of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images increases. To improve application of SAR images, a management system for SAR images is proposed in this paper. The system provides trainable land cover classification module and display of SAR images on the map. Users of the system can create their own classifier with their data, and obtain the classified results of newly captured SAR images by applying the classifier to the images. The classifier is based on convolutional neural network structure. Since there are differences among SAR images depending on capturing method and devices, a fixed classifier cannot cover all types of SAR land cover classification problems. Thus, it is adopted to create each user's classifier. In our experiments, it is shown that the module works well with two different SAR datasets. With this system, SAR data and land cover classification results are managed and easily displayed.
