  • Nowadays, COVID-19 infections are influencing our daily lives which have spread globally. The major symptoms' of COVID-19 are dry cough, sore throat, and fever which in turn to critical complications like multi organs failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome, etc. Therefore, to hinder the spread of COVID-19, a Computerized Doughty Predictor Framework (CDPF) is developed to yield benefits in monitoring the progression of disease from Chest CT images which will reduce the mortality rates significantly. The proposed framework CDPF employs Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) as a feature extractor to extract the features from CT images. Subsequently, the extracted features are fed into the Adaptive Dragonfly Algorithm (ADA) to extract the most significant features which will smoothly drive the diagnosing of the COVID and Non-COVID cases with the support of Doughty Learners (DL). This paper uses the publicly available SARS-CoV-2 and Github COVID CT dataset which contains 2482 and 812 CT images with two class labels COVID+ and COVI-. The performance of CDPF is evaluated against existing state of art approaches, which shows the superiority of CDPF with the diagnosis accuracy of about 99.76%.

  • The assessment of alveolar bone changes on dental radiographs to indicate progression of periodontal diseases or healing response to therapy is routine procedure. However, the diagnostic accuracy in detecting small alveolar bone changes is very limited. Recently, guided bone regeneration therapy is popular, but the quantification of new bone is somewhat difficult with conventional evaluation method. To quantificate the amount of new bone, various evaluating methods have been introduced including histomorphometry, radiomorphometry, biochemical analysis, X-ray probe microanalysis, scanning electron microscope backscatter method. In this study, guided bone regeneration using resorbable membrane with & without PDGF-BB is quatificated through histomorphmetry to evaluate the efficacy of histomorphometric analysis. 4 beagle dogs and 8 Sprague-Dawley rats were selected as experimental animals. In beagle dog experiment, $4{\times}4mm$ Class II defects were created in maxillary both second premolars, and biodegradable membrane containing PDGF-BB(experimental group) were covered over one defect, and same membrane without PDGF-BB(control group) were covered over the other defect. At 2 weeks, 5 weeks after surgery, each beagle dogs were sacrificed, and the tissues were treated by undecalcified fixation. In Sprague-Dawley rat experiment, 5mm round defect were created in temporal bone, the same membranes were covered on the defects. At 1 week, 2 weeks after surgery, each rats were sacrificed, and undecalcified fixation were taken. After grinding tissue specimen, we analyse them histomorphometrically using image analysis system. In beagle dog 2 weeks specimens, new bone formation area were $0.03123mm^2$ in experimental group, and $0.03012mm^2$ in control group. At 5 weeks specimens, $0.15324mm^2$ in experimental group, and $0.09123mm^2$ in control group. In Sprague-Dawley rat specimens, new bone fomation area were $0.20448mm^2$ in 1 week experimental group, $0.03604mm^2$ in 1 week control group. At 2 weeks specimens, $0.46349mm^2$ in experimental group, $0.17741mm^2$ in control group. The results indicated that histomorphometric analysis of new bone formation using image analysis system is very effective quantification method to evaluate the efficacy of treatment modalities.

  • Objective: This study aimed to three-dimensionally evaluate the pharyngeal airway space (PAS) of patients with anterior open bite (AOB) by using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and compare the findings with those obtained in individuals with normal occlusion. Methods: The open bite group (OBG, n = 25) consisted of patients with an anterior overbite of -3 mm or less, while the control group (n = 25) consisted of age- and sex-matched individuals with an anterior overbite of 1-3 mm, Angle Class I malocclusion (1° ≤ point A-nasion-point B angle ≤ 4°), and a normodivergent profile (22° ≤ Frankfort mandibular plane angle ≤ 28°). After the CBCT data were reconstructed into a three-dimensional image, the PAS was segmented into four parts, and the volume of each part was measured. Pharyngeal airway length (PAL) and the area and transverse width of the part showing minimal constriction were also measured. Pearson's correlation analysis was used to evaluate the correlation between changes in the PAS and the amount of anterior overbite. Results: The OBG showed a significantly narrower airway space in the nasopharyngeal, hypopharyngeal, and total airway volumes. The OBG also showed a significantly smaller area and transverse width of the part with minimal constriction. The OBG showed a significantly longer PAL, but there was no correlation between the amount of anterior overbite and the changes in PAS. Conclusions: The PAS was associated with AOB. Patients with AOB had a narrower PAS and a smaller part showing minimal constriction.

  • We conducted simultaneous 22GHz water maser and 44GHz class I methanol maser surveys of newly-identified 282 H2 emission features from the $2.122{\mu}m$ H2 narrowband image survey in the Galactic plane (UWISH2 project) using Korea VLBI Network (KVN) 21-m radio telescopes. We detected 16 and 13 new water and methanol maser sources, respectively. This result indicates that at least ~5% of the H2 emission features originate from young stellar objects (YSOs) that are in the right physical condition to produce the water and methanol masers. The masers are closely related to the current outflow activities in the Galactic plane. The power sources of these 23 diffused/collimated H2 emission features (six sources are detected for both masers) are likely to be intermediate-to high-mass YSOs, based on a comparison with the maser luminosities of other well-studied YSOs. Both maser velocities are mostly close to their own systemic velocities within 5 km/s, even though water masers generally show larger variabilities in the line intensities, velocities, and shapes than methanol masers. We also discovered three new water maser sources with high-velocity components: ~25 km/s red-shifted CMHO019, ~50 km/s blue-shifted CMHO132, and ~120 km/s blue-shifted CMHO182. In particular, we propose that the dominant blue-shifted water maser of CHMO182 could become a unique laboratory for the study of high-mass stellar jet and their accelerations.

  • In this paper, we presented a database construction of undersea images for the Habitats of Ecklonia cava and Sargassum and conducted an experiment for semantic segmentation using state-of-the-art (SOTA) models such as High Resolution Network-Object Contextual Representation (HRNet-OCR) and Shifted Windows-L (Swin-L). The result showed that our segmentation models were superior to the existing experiments in terms of the 29% increased mean intersection over union (mIOU). Swin-L model produced better performance for every class. In particular, the information of the Ecklonia cava class that had small data were also appropriately extracted by Swin-L model. Target objects and the backgrounds were well distinguished owing to the Transformer backbone better than the legacy models. A bigger database under construction will ensure more accuracy improvement and can be utilized as deep learning database for undersea images.
