  • It is needed many images with different exposure to acquire high dynamic range (HDR) image of a scene using digital still camera. This paper proposed to acquire HDR image with small error using reduced number of image. Proposed method takes two pictures with different exposure and estimates dynamic range of scene using information two images, and takes three pictures with calculated proper exposure to acquire HDR image.

  • Blur identification is the first and the most important step of restoring images. Edge region of the image usually conveys important information of blur parameters. In this paper we propose a region-based edge extraction method for estimating point-spread-function (PSF). As a result, the proposed method can detect the starting and the ending points of a step response, and provides the PSF parameters to the restoration process.

  • For the compression of color images, a common bitmap usually is generated to replace the three individual bitmaps that originate from block truncation coding (BTC) of the R, G and B channels. However, common bitmaps generated by some traditional schemes are not the best possible because they do not consider the minimized distortion of the entire color image. In this paper, we propose a near-optimized common bitmap scheme for BTC using Binary Ant Colony Optimization (BACO), producing a BACO-BTC scheme. First, the color image is compressed by the BTC algorithm to get three individual bitmaps, and three pairs of quantization values for the R, G, and B channels. Second, a near-optimized common bitmap is generated with minimized distortion of the entire color image based on the idea of BACO. Finally, the color image is reconstructed easily by the corresponding quantization values according to the common bitmap. The experimental results confirmed that reconstructed image of the proposed scheme has better visual quality and less computational complexity than the referenced schemes.

  • Image Registration is used many works in image processing widely. But It is difficult to find the accuracy informations such as translation, rotation, and scaling between images. This paper proposes an algorithm that Fourier based image registration using the pyramid edge detection and line fitting. It can be estimated the informations by each sub-pixels. The proposed algorithm can be used for image registrations which high efficiency is required such as GIS, or MRI, CT, image mosaicing, weather forecasting, etc.

  • This paper proposes a novel image authentication scheme, aiming at tampering detection for block truncation coding (BTC) compressed image. The authentication code is generated by using the random number generator with a seed, and the size of the authentication code is based on the user's requirement, with each BTC-compressed image block being used to carry the authentication code using the data hiding method. In the proposed scheme, to obtain a high-quality embedded image, a reference table is used when the authentication code is embedded. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme achieves high-quality embedded images and guarantees the capability of tamper detection.

  • In this paper, a novel robust medical images watermarking scheme is proposed. In traditional methods, the added watermark may alter the host medical image in an irreversible manner and may mask subtle details. Consequently, we propose a method for medical image copyright protection that may remedy this problem by embedding the watermark without modifying the original host image. The proposed method is based on the visual cryptography concept and the dominant blocks of wavelet coefficients. The logic in using the blocks dominants map is that local features, such as contours or edges, are unique to each image. The experimental results show that the proposed method can withstand several image processing attacks such as cropping, filtering, compression, etc.

Earth Science Teachers' Conceptual Types about Image Formation through a Telescope (망원경의 상 형성에 대한 지구과학교사들의 개념 유형)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how teachers understand the principle of image formation of stars through a telescope. This study was conducted by using explanatory paper questionnaires given to 101 earth science teachers in the areas of Gyunggi province and Seoul. The questionnaires were cross-analyzed by three experts in earth science education. Result indicated that most of the participating teachers did not have systematic concepts about the process of making an image formed by a convex lens. Particulary, they did not sufficiently understand the concepts of an image and the functions of a screen. Furthermore, only 3% of the participants possessed the scientific concepts about the image formation principle of a star through the telescope. Most of the teachers seem to have non-scientific or alternative concepts about the image formation, which was only understanded with the fragmented characteristics about light and convex lens.

Fragile Watermarking Scheme Based on Wavelet Edge Features

  • This paper proposes a novel watermarking method to discover the tampers and localize it in digital image. The image which is to be used to generate a watermark is first wavelet decomposed and the edge feature from the sub bands of high frequency coefficients are retrieved to generate a watermark (Edge Feature Image) and which is to be embed on the cover image. Before embedding the watermark, the pixels of cover image are disordered through the Arnold Transform and this helps to upgrade the security of the watermark. The embedding of generated edge feature image is done only on the Least Significant Bit (LSB) of the cover image. The invisibleness and robustness of the proposed method is computed using Peak-Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Normalized Correlation (NC) and it proves that the proposed method delivers good results and the proposed method also detects and localizes the tampers efficiently. The invisibleness of proposed method is compared with the existing method and it proves that the proposed method is better.

  • This paper proposes a new method for image composition which estimates the rotation angle of human hand and uses the reserved image in real-time camera images. First, we capture a background image and extract a interesting region by background subtraction. Next, we estimate the skin region from the interesting region and calculate the rotation angle of estimated skin region using PCA(Principal Components Analysis). Finally, we composite the reserved image for the calculated rotation angle in camera images. The proposed method can be applied to control the 3D avatar for marker-less augmented reality.

A Brief Survey into the Field of Automatic Image Dataset Generation through Web Scraping and Query Expansion

  • High-quality image datasets are in high demand for various applications. With many online sources providing manually collected datasets, a persisting challenge is to fully automate the dataset collection process. In this study, we surveyed an automatic image dataset generation field through analyzing a collection of existing studies. Moreover, we examined fields that are closely related to automated dataset generation, such as query expansion, web scraping, and dataset quality. We assess how both noise and regional search engine differences can be addressed using an automated search query expansion focused on hypernyms, allowing for user-specific manual query expansion. Combining these aspects provides an outline of how a modern web scraping application can produce large-scale image datasets.
