This letter proposes a new near-lossless image compression method with only one line buffer cost for a digital camera with Bayer format image. For such format data, it can provide a low average compression rate (4.24bits/pixel) with high-image quality (larger than 46.37dB where the error of every pixel is less than two). The experimental results show that the near-lossless compression method has better performance than JPEG-LS (lossless) with ${\delta}$ = 2 for a Bayer format image.
Image compression plays an important role in encoding and improving various forms of images in the digital era. Recent researches have focused on the principle of deep learning as one of the most exciting machine learning methods to show that it is good scheme to analyze, classify and compress images. Various neural networks are able to adapt for image compressions, such as deep neural networks, artificial neural networks, recurrent neural networks and convolution neural networks. In this review paper, we discussed how to apply the rule of deep learning to obtain better image compression with high accuracy, low loss-ness and high visibility of the image. For those results in performance, deep learning methods are required on justified manner with distinct analysis.
The process of deep learning usually needs to deal with massive data which has greatly limited the development of deep learning technologies today. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) structure is often used to solve image classification problems. However, a large number of images may be required in order to train an image in CNN, which is a heavy burden for existing computer systems to handle. If the image data can be compressed under the premise that the computer hardware system remains unchanged, it is possible to train more datasets in deep learning. However, image compression usually adopts the form of lossy compression, which will lose part of the image information. If the lost information is key information, it may affect learning performance. In this paper, we will analyze the effect of image compression on deep learning performance on CNN-based cat and dog classification. Through the experiment results, we conclude that the compression of images does not have a significant impact on the accuracy of deep learning.
In the compression methods widely used today, the image compression by VQ is the most popular and shows a good data compression ratio. Almost all the methods by VQ use the LBG algorithm that reads the entire image several times and moves code vectors into optimal position in each step. This complexity of algorithm requires considerable amount of time to execute. To overcome this time consuming constraint, we propose an enhanced self-organizing neural network for color images. VQ is an image coding technique that shows high data compression ratio. In this study, we improved the competitive learning method by employing three methods for the generation of codebook. The results demonstrated that compression ratio by the proposed method was improved to a greater degree compared to the SOM in neural networks.

In this paper, a particular application of digital photos, remote sensing, remote shooting air moving, high-resolution and high compression of medical images required by remote shooting of JPEG2000 standard applied in the field of hardware design, production was implemented. JPEG2000 standard for image compression using the software implementation of the processing speed is very slow compared to conventional JPEG disadvantages, and also the standard of JPEG2000 DWT (Discrete wavelet transform) to improve the level of compression for image data if processing speed is a phenomenon that has degraded. In order to solve these JPEG2000 compression / decompression groups were designed and applied. In this paper, the optimal JPEG2000 compression / reservoir hardware by changing the level for still image compression, faster computation speed and quality has shown improvement.

In this paper, we propose an image compression scheme which uses a demosaicking network and a channel-wise decoder in the decoding network. For the demosaicing network, we use as the input a colored mosaiced pattern rather than the well-known Bayer pattern. The use of a colored mosaiced pattern results in the mosaiced image containing a greater amount of information pertaining to the original image. Therefore, it contributes to result in a better color reconstruction. The channel-wise decoder is composed of multiple decoders where each decoder is responsible for each channel in the color image, i.e., the R, G, and B channels. The encoder and decoder are both implemented by wavelet based auto-encoders for better performance. Experimental results verify that the separated channel-wise decoders and the colored mosaic pattern produce a better reconstructed color image than a single decoder. When combining the colored CFA with the multi-decoder, the PSNR metric exhibits an increase of over 2dB for three-times compression and approximately 0.6dB for twelve-times compression compared to the Bayer CFA with a single decoder. Therefore, the compression rate is also increased with the proposed method than with the method using a single decoder on the Bayer patterned mosaic image.
Although image compression is one of the essential technologies to transmit image data on a variety of surveillance and mobile healthcare applications, it causes unnecessary compression artifacts such as blocking and ringing artifacts by the lossy compression in the limited network bandwidth. Recently, image restoration methods using convolutional neural network (CNN) show the significant improvement of image quality from the compressed images. In this paper, we propose Image Denoising Convolutional Neural Networks (IDCNN) to reduce the compression artifacts for the purpose of improving the performance of object classification. In order to evaluate the classification accuracy, we used the ImageNet test dataset consisting of 50,000 natural images and measured the classification performance in terms of Top-1 and Top-5 accuracy. Experimental results show that the proposed IDCNN can improve Top-1 and Top-5 accuracy as high as 2.46% and 2.42%, respectively.
This paper investigates the relationship between the compression ratio and the gamut area for a reconstructed image when using JPEG and JPEG2000. Eighteen color samples from the Macbeth ColorChecker are initially used to analyze the relationship between the compression ratio and the color bleeding phenomenon, i.e. the hue and chroma shifts in the a*b* color plane. In addition, twelve natural color images, divided into two groups depending on four color attributes, are also used to investigate the relationship between the compression ratio and the variation in the gamut area. For each image group, the gamut area for the reconstructed image shows an overall tendency to increase when increasing the compression ratio, similar to the experimental results with the Macbeth ColorChecker samples. However, with a high compression ratio, the gamut area decreases due to the mixture of adjacent colors, resulting in more grey.
