  • The pyrovalves are widely used in aerospace industry for the opening and closing of flow channel due to the light-weight, high reliability and zero-leakage. In the United States, the loss of some spacecrafts using hydrazine as the propellent were proven by the blowby. Blowby is defined as the leakage of pyrovalve ignition combustion gas to the flow channel. Since then, the interference fit was applied for the sealing of piston to prevent the blowby. In this study, literature survey on pyrovalve technology is summarized mainly for AIAA papers. Common problems, improvement method, and performance comparisons of pyrovalves are also presented.

  • On-orbit thermal behavior of KOMPSAT (Korea Multi-purpose Satellite) propulsion system employing hydrazine (N$_2$H$_4$) liquid monopropellant is addressed. Thermal control performance to prevent propellant freezing in spacecraft-operational orbit was verified by flight telemetry data obtained during LEOP (Launch and Early Operation Phase). Results are depicted in terms of temperature history during several orbits selected and are compared with acceptable temperature ranges of system components. Cyclic behavior of temperature is reduced into duty cycles of the avionics heaters and subsequently converted into the electrical power required to keep away from propellant freezing. Temperature of each component which was achieved under on-ground thermal-balanced condition of spacecraft, is presented for comparison with the flight data, additionally.

  • The addition of dipeptides and 1,2-bis (aminoacyl) hydrazine derivatives a level of 250 ppm to corn oil resulted in the retardation of the oxidaitive deterioration of the oil when it was stored in the oven at $70^{\circ}C$ during 5 days. Their antioxidant activities were investigated by UV absorbance of the corn oil at the wavelength of 234nm. 1,2-bis (aminoacyl) hydrazine derivatives showed higher antioxidant activity than normal dipeptides. Dipeptides containing phenyl ring with which is conjugable a-carbon radical showed antioxidant activity.

  • The kinetics of gas evolution in the reaction between hydrazine and iodine in a sulfuric acid medium has been studied at $25^{\circ}$. The rate is first order in hydrazine and iodine concentration. The iodide ion retards the reaction whereas the effect of hydrogen ion concentration is rather complicated. The rate of gas evolution is very close to that of iodine consumption.

  • Novel tri- and tetra-substituted pyrimido[4,5-d]pyridazines-2(1H,3H,7H)-ones have been synthesized via the regiospecific condensation reaction of hydrazine derivatives with 5-acetyl-4-aryloyl-6-methyl-3,4-dihydropyrimidinones in the presence of $SiO_2-Y(NO_3)_3$ as a green and recyclable catalyst under solvent-free conditions. All products were obtained in high yields and short reaction time. Employing this method is in accord with green chemistry principles.

  • The reaction of 6-chloro-2-hydrazinoquinoxaline 4.oxide(10) with acetylacetone or dibenzoylmethane gave 6-chloro-2-(3,5-disubstituted pyrazol-1-yl)quinoxaline 4-oxides (11) through the intramolecular·cyclization. The chlorination of compound 11 with phosphoryl chloride afforded 3,6-dichloro-2-(3,5-disubstituted pyrazol-1-yl)quinoxalines (12), whose reaction with hydrazine hydrate provided 6-chloro-3-hydrazinodehydes, benzenesulfonyl chloride, substituted benzoyl chlohdes or acyl chlorides gave novel pyrazolylquinoxalines (14-17).

  • The photochemical transformation of carbon monoxide in aqueous ammonia solution has been investigated at 25${\pm}$0.1$^{\circ}C$ using 184.9 nm UV light. Amination and carbonylation processes were carried out by irradiating the aqueous ammonia solution saturated with carbon monoxide, and the formation of formamide, urea, hexamethylenetetramine, formaldehyde, glyoxal and hydrazine was observed. The formation of hydrazine was affected by the presence of ammonia, and the formation of carbonyl compounds such as formaldehyde and glyoxal was influenced by the presence of carbon monoxide. The formation of formamide, urea and hexamethylenetetramine was affected by both ammonia and carbon monoxide. The initial quantum yields of the products were determined and probable mechanisms for the photochemical reaction were presented on the basis of product analysis.

  • A numerical analysis was performed to predict the thermo-fluid dynamic characteristics of hydrazine monopropellant reaction in the thruster combustor and nozzle. A 1-D porous model was introduced to simulate catalytic reaction by iridium in the combustor while 2-D axisymmetric analysis was applied to predict the nozzle flow. The chemical species and temperature variations were predicted by changing the injection pressure and mass flow rate and their results were validated by comparison with limited experimental data. The thrust variation with injection pressure could be estimated using the current 1-D combustor modeling.
