The majority of important structures are made of concrete. Recently earth canals have increasingly been changed to concrete-based irrigation structures every year for higher efficiency of water conveyance and easier maintenance. Unfortunately these concrete structures for agricultural purpose have serviced to only $15{\sim}20$ years, which amounts to only about one third of target service life and will finally result in natural resources waste and weakening of competitive power of agriculture and farmers. Moreover, recently increased concerns of phil-environment have required reconsideration of the roles, shapes, service lives of the irrigation structures. Hereby, this study is presented to find out suggestions or comments on the solutions to the problems of shorter service life and the resultant environmental impact encountered recently in the hydraulic structures for the prosperity of farmers, agriculture and this country.
The Szentgotthard Flood Protection Project is located in the southeasters part of Austria, very close to the Hungarian border and to the Hungarian town of Szentgotthard situated near the Junction of the rivers Lafnitz and Raab. During heavy rainstorms, this area has always been liable to severe floodings, affecting the town itself and upstream reaches, where major industrial and commercial development is planned. In order to solve these problems, several solutions have been developed by means of a series of model tests performed at the hydraulic laboratory of the Technical University of Graz, Austria. The model was constructed to scales 1:75 (lengths) and 1:25 (heights). This trebled scale allowed greater accuracy in the measurement of discharge depths. The results from the model tests have led to the following proposals: - Construction of a flood relief trough with an inflow section 3.5 km upstream of the junction of the rivers Lafnitz and Raab. - Use of a former river bed for the flood relief trough. - Design of a lowered embankment crest section to pass one-third of the maximum flood flow of the river Lafnitz. - Connection of the flood relief trough to the Lahnbach stream, a tributary of the river Raab.

The main reason for its instability is sediment scouring downstream of hydraulic structures. Both physical and numerical models have been used to investigate the influence of soil properties on scour hole geometry. Nevertheless, no research has been conducted on resistance parameters that affect sedimentation and erosion. In addition, auxiliary structures like wing walls, which are prevalent in many real-world applications, have rarely been studied for their impact on morphology. The hydraulic characteristics of steady flow through a boxed culvert are calibrated using a 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics model compared with experimental data in this study, which shows a good agreement between water depth, velocity, and pressure profiles. Test cases showed that 0.015 m grid cells had the lowest NRMSE and MAE values. It is also possible to quantify sediment scour numerically by testing roughness/d50 ratios (cs) and diversion walls at a meander flume outlet. According to the findings, cs = 2.5 indicates a close agreement between numerical and analytical results of maximum scour depth after the culvert; four types of wing walls influence geometrical deformation of the meander flume outlet, resulting in erosion at the concave bank and deposition at the convex bank; two short headwalls are the most appropriate solution for accounting for small changes in morphology. A numerical model can be used to estimate sediment scour at the meander exit channel of hydraulic structures based on the roughness parameter of soil material and headwall type.

In order to design floating structures, it should be required to evaluate hydrodynamic motions and structural behavior under the wave loadings. Then, structural behavior of floating structures should be evaluated including the effects of wave-induced hydraulic pressure subjected to floating structures. However, there has been a problem to exactly evaluate structural behavior of floating structures since it was difficult to directly connect wave-induced hydraulic pressure resulting from hydrodynamic analysis with structural analysis model. In this study, in order to exactly evaluate structural behavior of floating structures under the wave loading, integrated analysis of hydrodynamic motion and structural behavior was carried out to the large-scaled floating structure. The wave-induced hydraulic pressure resulting from hydrodynamic analysis AQWA were directly mapped to structural analysis model ANSYS bia Workbench interface of ANSYS Inc.. As the results of this study, it was found that the integrated analysis of this study evaluate exactly structural behavior of floating structures under the wave loadings since this method can directly reflect wave-induced hydraulic pressure resulting from hydrodynamic analysis to structural analysis model. Also, as the results of structural behavior evaluation, it was found that the tensile stress on the top slab was maximized at the wave direction of $0^{\circ}$, and tensile stress on the bottom slab was maximized at the wave direction of $45^{\circ}$, respectively.

The present study numerically analyzed the dynamic behavior of 3D framed structures subject to impulsive slamming forces by violent breaking waves. The structures were modeled using multiple lumped masses for the vertical projections of each member, and the slamming forces from the breaking waves were concentrated on these lumped masses. A numerical algorithm was developed to properly incorporate the slamming forces into a dynamic analysis to numerically determine the structural responses. Then, the validity of the numerical analysis was verified using the results of an existing hydraulic experiment. The numerical and experimental results for various model structures were generally in good agreement. The uncertainties concerning the properties of the breaking waves used in the verification are also discussed here.

Hydrodynamic pressure fluctuations and their roles on the design of hydraulic structures has been the subject of many investigations. The studies showed that turbulent pressure fluctuations may cause serious damages to hydraulic structures. In case of high velocity flows, separation of flow from the boundary also causes the local pressure to drop and as a result, the resultant pressure fluctuations may trigger cavitation. Sever hydrodynamic pressures are also associated with the vibration of structures. Therefore, in this work, experiments were performed to determine the intensity of pressure fluctuations and their distribution along the bed of a ski-jump flip bucket. Experiments were completed on a physical model at the Institution of Water Research of Iran. The results consist of the statistical characteristics of pressure fluctuations, its maximum, minimum, and r.m.s values along the bed of the bucket. The spectral analysis of pressure fluctuations which is useful for the instability analysis of such structures is also provided. It is hoped that the present results will help the designer of such structures.

Hydraulic structures have been constructed with low cost concrete so as to increase the investment efficiency. But, it has caused to produce structures having excess internal voids inside concrete. As the construction of agricultural irrigation and drainage project is concentrated on off-farming season and scattered in wider area, variation of quality of structures is big and it caused increase of internal voids. Due to that reason, hazardous substance is passing rather freely through the voids causing occur of crack and accordingly life time of structures is getting shortened. It is necessary to make a thesis of design criteria for design strength to increase life time, range of variation of quality, strength of ready-mixed concrete proper to design strength, and water-cement ratio and air content.

Base isolation is an innovative design strategy that provides a practical alternative for the seismic design of structures. Base isolators, mainly employed to isolate large structures subjected to earthquake ground excitations and to rehabilitate structures damaged by past earthquakes, deflect and absorb the seismic energy horizontally transmitted to the structures. This study demonstrates that the base isolation system may offer effective performance for bridges during severe seismic events through shaking table tests. Two base isolation system using laminated rubber bearings with and without hydraulic dampers are tested. The test results strongly show that the laminated rubber bearings cause the natural period of the bridge structure increased considerably, which results in the deck acceleration and the shear forces on the piers reduced significantly. The results also demonstrate that the hydraulic dampers enhance the system's capacity in dissipating energy to reduce the relative displacement between the bridge deck and the pier.

Scour in the downstream of hydraulic structures such as apron induces to collapse due to abruptly increasing rainfall and discharge in streams and reaches. This is because the forcible jet from overflowing is not sufficiently dissipated by existing energy dissipators, and it continues to sweep the bed materials during flood events. In this study, a second stilling basin was proposed as a countermeasure and the energy dissipation efficiency of this structure was analyzed using 3D-dimensional numerical analysis. First, results from previous research and hydraulic tests were used to verify the accuracy of the numerical model. It showed that the second stilling basin played a definite role in reducing the bottom velocity, comparing with diminishing the energy dissipation when numerical tests were conducted under scaled field conditions in Korea. This means that the second stilling basin can be a countermeasure against scour in downstream. If more efficiency analysis of the second stilling basin would be performed in terms of energy dissipator for various types of hydraulic jump, it would be an alternative solution to scouring issues.
In order to accurately analyze the detailed hydraulic characteristics of the curved channel in the downstream of dam with the hydraulic structures such as bridge piers, RMA2 model which is one of two-dimensional models is applied to ChunCheon dam downstream curved channel. A series of hydraulic model tests are carried out for comparison studies. HEC-RAS model is also applied to the same site. There are no errors when velocities and water levels resulted from HEC-RAS model RMA2 model are compared with those of hydraulic model test on the straight channel. But, it is found that results of RMA2 model have a better agreement with those of hydraulic model test than those of HEC-RAS model on the curved channel with bridge piers. Additionally, RMA2 model can be predicted the eddy phenomena around bridge piers of the curved channel.
