In this study, in order to investigate the wave-induced buoyancy effects, experimental studies were conducted on pontoon-type floating structures. A series of small-scale tests with various wave cases were performed on the pontoon models. A total of four small-scale pontoon models with different lateral shapes and bottom details were fabricated and tested under the five different wave cases. Six hydraulic pressure gauges were attached to the bottom surfaces of the pontoon models and the wave-induced hydraulic pressure was measured during the tests. Finally, hydraulic pressures subjected to the bottoms of the pontoon models were compared with each other. As the results of this study, it was found that whereas the waffled bottom shape hardly influenced the wave-induced hydraulic pressure, the hybrid lateral shape significantly influenced the wave-induced hydraulic pressure subjected on the bottoms of floating structures. The air gap effects of the hybrid shape contribute to decreasing the wave-induced hydraulic pressure due to absorption of wave impact energy. Compared with box type, the hydraulic pressures of the hybrid type were about 83% at the bow, 74% at the middle, and 53% at the stern.
In this paper, the design of automatic impact force control mechanism of hydraulic breaker was studied. The control mechanism uses the change of piston upper chamber pressure, when the hydraulic breaker impacts various strength rock. The piston stroke is controlled by rock strength sensing valve, piston stroke switching valve, and piston control valve. It is imperative to denote the area of each valve section, the spring constant of the spring. It provides convenience to users by automatically adjusting the appropriate striking force, according to the strength of the rock. Additionally, by increasing work productivity, it can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions due to fuel efficiency reduction.
Domestic hydraulic drifters till now have been developed by benchmarking products from overseas leading companies. However, they do not have excellent impact performance as they are not suitable for characteristics (large flow rate and low pressure) of Korean hydraulic drill power pack, and therefore, research on the optimum design has not made much headway. This study performs multi-objective function optimization for hydraulic drifters whose capacity has been redesigned to deal with the large flow rate, and also with the help of this function, it aims to improve impact power and reduce supply and surge pressure. A summary of the research study is as follows: First, we set goals for improving impact power, supply pressure, and surge pressure, and then perform multi-objective function optimization on them. After that, we secure the reliability of the optimized analytical model by comparing the test results of the prototype built by the optimized design with the analysis results of the analytical model. This study used SimulationX, that is the hydraulic system analysis software, and EasyDesign, which is a multi-objective function optimization program. Through this research, we have achieved the results that satisfy the goal of developing high power drifters suitable for Korean type hydraulic drills.
Uroflowmetry is non-invasive and easily performed to diagnose benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH) frequent in aged men. Weight change during urination is usually measured to estimate the urinary flow rate by a load cell, but sensitive to any impacts against the bottom of the container, leading to unnecessary noise generation. Moreover, load cells are relatively expensive raising the production cost. The present study proposed a new technique, measuring hydraulic pressure on the bottom of the urine container to evaluate the urinary flow rate. Low cost pressure transducer enabled almost perfectly linear relationship between the urine volume and the hydraulic pressure. During both the simulated and human urination experiment, variance of the pressure signal was more than 50 % smaller than the weight signal acquired by a load cell, which demonstrated that the impact noise was decreased to a great degree by pressure compared to weight measurement.

Uroflowmetry is of great convenience to diagnose benign prostate hypertrophy common in aged men. The urinary flow rate is obtained by weight measurement using load cell, however, sensitive to impact noise. An alternative technique was recently proposed to measure hydraulic pressure instead of weight and demonstrated to introduce significantly reduced noise. In this paper, we described the measured diagnostic parameters between the weight and pressure measuring techniques in 10 normal men. The weight and pressure signals were simultaneously acquired during urination, converted into urine volumes, then differentiated to obtain flow rate signals, which showed very similar waveforms. Diagnostic parameters evaluated by pressure measuring technique were well correlated with the standard weight measuring technique (correlation coefficient > 0.99). Therefore, the new uroflowmetry based on hydraulic pressure measurement can provide accurate diagnostic parameters, which would be clinically valid.

The breaking wave pressure occurs when a plunging breaker instantaneously impinges on structural surface, and appears differently depending on whether or not to form air pockets at the instant of contact. The Wagner type normally forms a single pressure peak at the contact spot due to the direct collision of water volume to the structure whereas in the Bagnold type the time lagged oscillation of the air pocket causes pressure peaks even at areas away from the spot. In the present study, the Bagnold's impact pressure is numerically and experimentally investigated for the bulkhead of an underwater tunnel under construction which is subjected to nearby breaking waves. A numerical solver of Navier-Stokes equations was applied to reproduce the breaking waves near a bulkhead, and the results showed the Bagnold's impact pressure occurring on the back (land side) face of the bulkhead. The existence of the impact pressure was also verified by a hydraulic model testing, and it was found that the experimental results well conformed to their numerical counterparts.
To evaluate of active suspension, it is necessary for special equipment - so called Test Rig which can perfectly realize the road condition and the impact from the road. And most of the test rig systems controlling force accurately and rapidly consist of electro-hydraulic servo mechanism, and they need robust controller which can endure outer road change. But in the case of PID controller, we should choose its best gains by trial and error method, and once its gains are fixed, they cannot get changed, so we should reset PID controller gains respectively when the road is changed. Therefore based on the load pressure feedback compensation method, our aim at constructing electro-hydraulic test rig is not affected by various road disturbance.

A hydraulic breaker attached to an excavator is a kind of constructuion equipment which is used for the disassembling of buildings, crashing road pavement, breaking rocks at quarry and etc. Therefore, the performance of the hydraulic breaker is mainly evaluated by the impact quantity and impact efficiency, which is an important factor for both the manufacturer and the user. In this paper, modeling and simulation for the prediction of the impact of the hydraulic breaker was conducted according to hydraulic pressure area and operating conditions of the hydraulic valve and piston using the commercial tools SimulationX for the 20ton hydraulic breaker which is mainly used in construction site. In order to verify the reliability of modeling and simulation, the results of previous experimental studies were compared and verified. The results of this study are expected to be useful for predicting the impact of the hydraulic breaker at the design stage before manufacturing and for studying parameters for improving the impact quantity. In addition, the manufacturer predicts that the development time and cost will be reduced through trial and error prevention by predicting the impact of the hydraulic breaker through the results of this paper.

In order to minimize the impact of water hammer In a pipeline, a determination of optimum position of hydraulic structures with best operation of pressure relief valve was explored at the Seobyun pumping station. Method of characteristics is used to simulate a surge impact originating from abrupt stop of pumping operation in a pipeline. Genetic algorithm shows a powerful capability in searching a global solution, especially for a nonlinear problem The application results suggests that the maximum positive pressure can be relaxed by decreasing the opening time of pressure relief valve, meanwhile the maximum negative pressure can be relaxed by increasing the opening time of pressure relief valve. This study shows that the integration of a genetic algorithm with a transient analysis technique such as method of characteristic can improve the design of hydraulic structure in a pipe network.
