Objectives : There has been little known about the Tibetan medicine in the society for Korean medicine. The aim of this study is to review the system of Tibetan medicine and compare with Korean medicine. Methods : The authors investigated several literatures that mentioned Tibetan medicine and organized in physiology, pathology, diagnostics, and treatment. And then, we interpreted the characteristics of Tibetan medicine as well as compared Tibetan medicine with Korean medicine. After that, we analyzed the commons and the differences, and also found out the meaning of Tibetan medicine. Results : The theory of Tibetan medicine is basically constituted of three elements of Lung, Tripa, and Peken in every parts of physiology, pathology, diagnostics, and treatment. Many organs of human body are compared to the fabrications of building. There is a detail explanation about the process of the development of fetus in Tibetan medicine. Tibetan medicine uses taking pulse in wrist, analysis of urine, watching of tongue, sperm, and menstruation, and etc. for diagnosis. In Tibetan medicine, regimen is prior to other treatments such as surgical treatment and medications. Conclusions : There is the oriental thought of '3' in Tibetan medicine, and esoteric buddhism is solved in Tibetan medicine. The anatomy and the diagnostics using urine, sperm, and menstruation have especially been developed in Tibetan medicine. Tibetan medicine emphasizes the feature of preventive medicine.
In viro fertilizatin is very important in both human clinical practice and animal breeding. However, the success rate of in vitro fertilization is not high. The purpose of this study ws to determine wheter in the vitro fertilization and culture of porcine oocyte using a hydrogel chamber were possible or not. Hydrogel chambers were made of polymerized 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate. Matured follicular oocytes in Waymouth's medium and T L Hepes medium, tubal oocytes, and preincubated sperm in M199 medium were treansferred into the lumen of the hydrogel chambers. The chambers containing porcine oocytes and spermatozoa implanted into the mouse peritioneal cavity, and ova were examined after the recovery of the chambers at 84 hours after preservation start. The result was shown that fertilization and culture of porcine oocytes were successfully achieved inside of the hydrogel chamber.
Nucleoside diphosphate kinases (NDPKs) are conserved through evolution and have been shown to be involved in various biological phenomena. By functional screening in yeast, we identified a new member of the NDPK family, ㎚23-M5, which encodes a 211-amino acid protein with 86% identify to the human homolog, ㎚23-H5. Northern blot analysis reveals that ㎚23-M5 encodes two transcripts of 0.8 and 0.7 kb, which are highly and specifically expressed in adult testis. Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction analysis shows that nm23-M5 first appears in pachytene spermatocytes and increase chain reaction in abundance through subsequent stages. (omitted)
The safety of human exposure to an ever-increasing number and diversity of electromagnetic field (EMF) sources both at work and at home has become a public health issue. To date, many in vivo and in vitro studies have revealed that EMF exposure can alter cellular homeostasis, endocrine function, reproductive function, and fetal development in animal systems. Reproductive parameters reported to be altered by EMF exposure include male germ cell death, the estrous cycle, reproductive endocrine hormones, reproductive organ weights, sperm motility, early embryonic development, and pregnancy success. At the cellular level, an increase in free radicals and $[Ca^{2+}]i$ may mediate the effect of EMFs and lead to cell growth inhibition, protein misfolding, and DNA breaks. The effect of EMF exposure on reproductive function differs according to frequency and wave, strength (energy), and duration of exposure. In the present review, the effects of EMFs on reproductive function are summarized according to the types of EMF, wave type, strength, and duration of exposure at cellular and organism levels.

A good animal model that simulates the human subject has not been available for the evaluation of the in vivo effectiveness of vaginal contraceptives. After careful consideration, The stumptailed macaque (Macaca arctoides) was studied for its applicability since it has a reproductive tract similar to that of the woman, is easy to handle, does not require tranquilization or anesthesia when the contraceptive is deposited, and breeds and conceives readily under caged conditions. The reported observations show the usefulness of this animal. Both postcoital sperm motility studies and breeding experiments were performed with the use of Delfen vaginal cream and K-Y jelly. K-Y jelly had no effect on the motility of vaginal spermatozoa or on the conception rate of the primates. Although Delfen vaginal cream consistently immobilized all spermatozoa in the postcoital test, half of the animals became pregnant within an average of 3.7 breeding cycles. These results illustrate the discrepancy between spermicidal tests and fertility measurements, and it is recommended that primate-breeding experiments be performed before a spermicide is evaluated in women as a contraceptive. Transgenic rats and mice are useful experimental animal models for medical research including human disease model studies. Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) technology is successfully applied in most mammalian species including cattle, sheep, pig and mouse. SCNT is also considered to increase the efficacy of transgenic/knockout mouse and rat production. However, in the area of reproductive biotechnology, the rodent model is inadequate because of technical obstacles in manipulating the oocytes including intracytoplasmic sperm injection and SCNT. In particular, success of rat SCNT is very limited so far. In this review, the history of rodent cloning is described.
Owing to the development of Biotechnology, the involvement of humans in life before birth has been increasing. This means the need for the protection of unborn life takes on new importance. The respect for life and human beings which is based on fundamental constitutional principle should still be respected under civil law. This study examines how methods of respect for life are embodied in civil liability law. In particular, it enunciates the protection of unborn life within time-flow. Lastly, it studies the instruments of the civil liability law and the extent of protection for a fetus from the process of fertilization of an ovum by a sperm, development into an embryo and implantation. Especially, it looks into when and how the subject of the right changes. Besides, it critically scrutinizes the opinions of leading case lawyers and the Constitutional Court which conclude that, in order for a fetus to become the subject of Damage law, it is required to be born alive to comply with precedent. Furthermore, it suggests an alternative interpretation theory.
Brassica oleracea var. italica (broccoli) is a type of cabbage that contains vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals. Consequently, it is used as a potential nutraceutical source for improving human health by reducing oxidative stress and inflammatory responses. Here, the effects of broccoli sprout extract (BSE) on the inflammatory response were investigated through lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory mouse models. First, we found that the BSE obviously reduce NO production in RAW 264.7 cells in response to LPS stimulation in in vitro study. Pretreatment with BSE administration improved sperm motility and testicular cell survivability in LPS-induced endotoxemic mice. Additionally, BSE treatment decreased the levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-a, IL-1β, and IL-6, and COX-2 in testis of LPS-induced endotoxemic mice models. In conclusion, BSE could be a potential nutraceutical for preventing the excessive immune related infertility.
Cryopreservation is an option for the preservation of pre- or post-pubertal female or male fertility. This technique not only is beneficial for human clinical applications, but also plays a crucial role in the breeding of livestock and endangered species. Unfortunately, frozen germ cells, including oocytes, sperm, embryos, and spermatogonial stem cells, are subject to cryoinjury. As a result, various cryoprotective agents and freezing techniques have been developed to mitigate this damage. Despite extensive research aimed at reducing apoptotic cell death during freezing, a low survival rate and impaired cell function are still observed after freeze-thawing. In recent decades, several cell death pathways other than apoptosis have been identified. However, the relationship between these pathways and cryoinjury is not yet fully understood, although necroptosis and autophagy appear to be linked to cryoinjury. Therefore, gaining a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms of cryoinjury could aid in the development of new strategies to enhance the effectiveness of the freezing of reproductive tissues. In this review, we focus on the pathways through which cryoinjury leads to cell death and propose novel approaches to enhance freezing efficacy based on signaling molecules.
