In the present study, local heat transfer rates for co-rotating disks with two modified hubs having ventilation holes are investigated for Rossby number of 0.04, 0.1 and 0.35 to evaluate the influence of incoming flows through hub holes. A naphthalene sublimation technique is employed to determine the detailed local heat/mass transfer coefficients on the rotating disks using the heat and mass transfer analogy. Flow field measurements are conducted using Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA) and numerical calculations are performed simultaneously to analyze the flow patterns induced by the disk rotation. The basic flow structure in a cavity between co-rotating disks consists of three regions; the solid-body rotating inner region, the outer region with turbulence vortices and the shroud boundary layer region. The heat/mass transfer. rates on the co-rotating disks are very low near the hub due to the solid-body rotation and those increase rapidly in the outer region due to turbulence mixing. The modified hubs with ventilation holes enhances significantly the heat/mass transfer rates on the region near the hub. The results also show that the heat transfer of Hub-2 is superior to that of Hub-1, but Hub-1 is more profitable for destructing the solid-body rotating inner region.

The present study investigates the local heat/mass transfer characteristics on a rotating disk which is the top disk covered with a shroud in HDD. The naphthalene sublimation technique is employed to determine the local heat/mass transfer coefficients on the rotating disk. Flow field measurements using Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA) and numerical calculations are performed to analyze the flow patterns induced by the disk rotation. HDD has been developed for compactness and speedy data access, thus the rotating velocity of the disk is increased and the height of a hub is decreased. The experiments are conducted for the various hub heights of 5, 10 and 15 mm, for the rotating Reynolds numbers of $5.5{\times}10^4$ to $1.1{\times}10^5$ and for the effects of the presence of a read/write head arm. The results show that the heat transfer on the rotating disk is enhanced considerably for the decrease of the hub height and for the increase of the rotating Reynolds number. The head arm inserted in the cavity decreases the heat transfer despite the enhancement of tangential RMS velocity because of the deficit of the momentum in the flow field.

The present study investigates flow characteristics in a cavity with one rotating disk and co-rotating disks for application to HDD. The experiments are conducted for rotating Reynolds numbers of $5.5{\times}104$ to $1.10{\times}105$ and for gap ratios of 0.059 to 0.175 in a single rotating and 0.047 to 0.094 in co-rotating disk. Time-resolved velocity components and turbulence intensity on the rotating disks are obtained by using LDA measurements. Detailed Knowledge of the flow characteristics is essential to analyze flow vibration and heat transfer and to design head-arm assembly and hub height in HDD. The results indicate that the velocity field in HDD is changed largely by the rotating Reynolds numbers and hub height of the disk.
The purpose of this paper is to study and analyze the improvement method for the failure examples including the vehicle brake system in actual field. It was verified that the indicator plate of pad wear scratched the brake disk because of wearing after displacement of non- identification parts pad. The caliper of other vehicle was installed with brake system verified the phenomenon produced groove in center point because of one side wear when the pad was not fully contacted with the rub disk by other action surface pressure and pad action condition. It verified that the crack phenomenon fatigue was produced by brake thermal deformation because of decreasing the thickness by grinding to modify the non-uniformed wear of brake disk. It verified that the friction sound was produced by the friction phenomenon because of non-uniformed contact of lining and an alien substance with inner of the drum and lining braking by crack phenomenon with brake drum surface.
In this paper, The concept of a wheel with carbon fiber composite is to replace the conventional material used for a wheel hub, such as plastic, with a disk-type hub made of carbon fabric and epoxy resin. The impact load from the ground under real conditions was considered; a low-velocity impact test was conducted to evaluate the impact performance of the carbon wheel and compare it with that of a conventional plastic wheel. This study applied a 70 J impact load as a test condition. The impact energy was controlled in the test by adjustment of height and weight of impactor. The use of a carbon disk wheel hub was confirmed to reduce weight and generate an excellent repulsive force at low energy under conditions similar to real driving conditions. The results showed that the maximum load increased proportionally depending on the impact load, but the growth of the maximum load was reduced at a 20 J impact load and tended to decrease at a 45 J impact load. The carbon wheel showed excellent properties ; the level of rebounding was 35.3% and 19.1% of the total impact energy at impact loads of 5 J and 10 J, respectively. On the other hand, the carbon disk wheel rebounded less than 5% of the total energy due to crack generation of the thin carbon hub for impact loads of more than 20 J.

The flange hub is a main component of an automotive steering system. Dimensional precision of the flange hub is very important for precise control of the steering force. Consequently, the process design for precision forming of a flange hub is required. The teeth of the flange hub are generally formed by bending. In this study, the formability of flange bending was investigated using FE simulations. For the optimum process conditions, the flange is bent by movement of an insert die, and the die angle and bending length are selected as $90^{\circ}$ and 4mm respectively.
Powder forging with a back pressure was investigated for production of automobile and compressor parts made of a rapidly solidified Al-Si alloy powder. Disk-shaped green compacts made of a rapidly solidified Al-Si alloy powder were hot forged, and hubs were formed by loading back pressure on their top. The influences of the back pressure and die temperatures on forgeabiliy and properties of parts made of a rapidly solidified Al-Si alloy powder were examined. This method was also applied to the production of a scroll part. The results of these studies are summarized as follows : 1. A back pressure on the hub top is very effective for consolidation and preventing crack formation in the hub. 2. When a back pressure tess than 98 MPa is applied, the forging pressure increases by the same amount of the applied back pressure. With more than 98 MPa, the forging pressure increases further due to an increased friction at the hub side. 3. Die temperatures higher than approximately 670k are needed in order to consolidate well the hub top without cracks.
The shrouded corotating disk flow has a simple figure on geometric basis, but has various and complicated forms of flow. this complicated flows can be variously applied to not only information storage device, but also turbomachinery which is greatly influenced by centrifugal force. This study measured its velocity to measure inner flow field with unique flow field univluenced, using LDV and subminiature hot-wire. The result of experiment shows that distribution limits of solid body rotation region, dimensionless velocity gradient and distribution limits of disk surface boundary layer(Ekman layer) are changed by the gap of disks and rotating speed. Circulating vortex which is near the shroud is effected by the gap of disks and rotating speed.
