They were asked about what housing characteristics were constraints in their daily living. They pointed out that the constraints in their apartments were as follows: 1) the small amount of space in the bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, and the entrance area of housing unit, 2) the unflat floor level between the bathroom and the hallway, or the balcony and the bedroom, 3) the slippery floor finish in the bathroom, 4) lack of grab bars or handrails in the bathroom and the ramp, 5) the kitchen work centers and the electric switches at improper height, and 6) the steep ramp. Therefore, the universal design characteristics in residential environments were the adequate amount of space, flat floor level, non-slippery floor finish, grab bars or handrails, accessible height, and ramp.

As aging society progresses, it is necessary to establish a housing standard that provides a healthy, safe, and convenient environment for the elderly. The objective of the study is to propose a housing space standard that is geared towards elderly living in the urban area. Three steps were taken to attain the objective. First, characteristics of housing preference, spatial usage and furniture preference of the elderly were attained through a survey. The survey was conducted targeting the respondents of the ages 60 to 79 living in three different administrative districts in Seoul. Second, the required floor space to perform individual specific behavior using anthropometric dimension of the elderly was investigated by literature review. Lastly, floor space of each space is suggested combining each area for individual specific behavior which reflects characteristics of housing preference and spatial usage. The results of the research as follows. A bedroom was planned, which includes the function of receiving guests by giving the area for the placement of a sofa. The space for the use of dinning table for two person was planned in the kitchen and The space for the behavior of showering on a chair was planned in a bathroom. Lastly, the space for the behavior of taking off shoes on a chair was considered in the entrance area. Consequently, $35.4m^2$ is suggested as the necessary floor space for the elderly housing considering the characteristics of the elderly in urban area. However, because of space composition and space for accessibility, the additional space should be considered to plan the elderly housing.
This study was designed to derive the characteristics of shared space composition of shared housing for one-person household through an examination on domestic and overseas cases. To examine the systematic approach to the planning of shared space, the concept and current status of shared housing were analyzed; and, the concept of shared space was derived based on the concept of Altman and, through the analysis on cases of shared housing, the shared space was classified into shared spaces for living support, passage, and community. And then, based on the standard of classification of shared space, the configuration of shared space in shared housing was examined through the analysis on domestic and oversea cases. Thereby, the arrangement and function of each type of compartment in shared space were examined and the configuration of the shared space prepared for an entrance of residents was analyzed and classified into 6 types. Each type revealed a relationship between privacy, living, passage and internal community which were all provided with respective configurative characteristics of each space. Result obtained from this study is estimated that they could be used as a basic data for the design or planning of shared spaces in shared and further, they could also be employed for the design or development of shared spaces of such houses taken the type and characteristics of residents into account.

Second, there were stationery and flour-based meal stores in adjacent borders near educational facilities, suitable for students' interest and motion patterns. Third, there were realty dealers, food stores, and laundries which provide the dwellers with service in adjacent borders near multi-family housing.

The contents of this research consists of three main parts. The first part is to analyze the characteristics of residential environment based on the quality indicators of parking space in apartment housing. The second part is to analyze the correlation of quality indicators of parking space and development conditions in apartment housing. The third part is to analyze the correlation of users' satisfaction and physical quality indicators of parking space, and to propose the planning methods which increase the quality of residential environment of parking space in apartment housing.
The purpose of this study is to examine the changes of housing characteristics between dwellings occupied by two and more households and one household occupying dwellings over 10 years using the Population and Housing Censuses in 1985, 1990, and 1995. One dwelling for each household, referred to the ratio of the number of dwellings to the number of households, has been one of the most important housing goals in Korea. The results indicated that the ratio of dwellings occupied by one household as well as that of households occupying one dwelling by oneself have been increased since 1985. However, the number of dwellings occupied by two and more households have been decreased but the number of households who share one dwelling with other households have never been decreased. One dwelling for each household has been mainly increased by the multifamily attached dwellers in urban residences. Single-family dettached dwellings in the urban area are the most often shared with other households. Housing policymakers should consider not only the rapidly increasing single households but also renters shared one dwelling with others mostly homeowners of single-family dettached dwellings.
The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of household characteristics on housing expenditure. The data from the National Survey of Family Income and Expenditure 1996 were used for the analysis of this study, and the final sample included 12,323 households. It was found that total housing expenditure was significantly different according to the tenure type, household income, household size, age, occupation and education of the head, or location of housing. The significantly explanatory variables in the model of total housing expenditure were owner and yearly-renter dummy, household income and the household income squared, mortgage-off dummy, Seoul and metropolitan city dummy, and employed-wife dummy.
