This study surveyed the fishing efficiency for Japanese common squid based on improvements made to LED fishing lamps by utilizing the training ship of Gangwon Provincial College. The training ship, Haesong-ho (24 tons), was equipped with seventy-two 150W electric power LED fishing lamps (10.8kW), and their fishing efficiency and fuel consumption level were surveyed for a total of ten times during the period between June 15, 2009 and July 27, 2009. In addition, the training ship was equipped with seventy-one 300W electric power LED fishing lamps (21.3kW) and their fishing efficiency and fuel consumption level were surveyed for a total of five times during the period between January 17, 2010 and August 4, 2010. In order to compare the fishing efficiency of LED fishing lamps, the catch of another fishing vessel equipped with Metal Halide (MH) fishing lamps of 120kW for the same period and at the same fishing grounds. The fuel consumption levels during the fishing operation of Haesong-ho was about 1,047.7 liters which was approximately 19.9% of the total fuel consumption level of 5,262.6 liters, and the fuel consumption level per operation hour was on average 9.2 liters. The number of Japanese common squid caught by the LED fishing lamp-equipped fishing vessel ranged from 12 to 1,640 squid for each fishing trial and the average quantity was 652. The number of Japanese common squid caught by the MH fishing lamp-equipped 10 fishing vessels ranged from 40 to 4,800 squid and the average quantity was 2,055. The fishing of Japanese common squid was done by the use of hand lines and an automatic jigging machine. The number of Japanese common squid caught per hand line and a single roller of the automatic jigging machine was in the proportion of 50.8% to 49.2% with respect to the LED fishing lamp-equipped fishing vessel. However, the number of Japanese common squid caught per hand line and a single roller of the automatic jigging machine was in the proportion of 86.4% to 13.6% with respect to the MH fishing lamp-equipped fishing vessel where most of the catch was made by hand lines. On the other hand, in comparing the number of Japanese common squid caught per automatic jigging machine, the number of squid caught by the LED fishing lamp-equipped fishing vessel was about the same or greater than the number of squid caught by the MH fishing lamp-equipped fishing vessel.
The formation process and the dynamical properties of a large-scale quasi-circular flare ribbon were investigated using the SDO AIA and HMI data along with data from RHESSI and SOT. Within one hour time interval, two subsequent M-class flares were detected from the NOAA 12371 that had a ${\beta}{\gamma}{\delta}$ configuration with one bipolar sunspot group in the east and one unipolar spot in the west embedded in a decayed magnetic field. Earlier M2.0 flare was associated with a coronal loop eruption, and a two-ribbon structure formed within the bipolar sunspot group. On the other hand, the later M2.6 flare was associated with a halo CME, and a quasi-circular ribbon developed encircling the full active region. The observed quasi-circular ribbon was strikingly large in size spanning 650" in north-south and 500" in east-west direction. It showed the well-known sequential brightening in the clockwise direction during the decay phase of the M2.6 flare at the estimated speed of 160.7 km s-1. The quasi-circular ribbon also showed the radial expansion, especially in the southern part. Interestingly, at the time of the later M2.6 flare, the third flare ribbon parallel to the early two-ribbon structure also developed near the unipolar sunspot, then showed a typical separation in pair with the eastern most ribbon of the early two ribbons. The potential field reconstruction based on the PFSS model showed a fan shaped magnetic configuration including fan-like field lines stemming from the unipolar spot and fanning out toward the background decayed field. This large-scale fan-like field overarched full active region, and the footpoints of fan-like field lines were co-spatial with the observed quasi-circular ribbon. From the NLFF magnetic field reconstruction, we confirmed the existence of a twisted flux rope structure in the bipolar spot group before the first M2.0 flare. Hard X-ray emission signatures were detected at the site of twisted flux rope during the pre-flare phase of the M2.0 flare. Based on the analysis of both two-ribbon structure and quasi-circular ribbon, we suggest that a tether-cutting reconnection between sheared arcade overarching the twisted flux rope embedded in a fan-like magnetic field may have triggered the first M2.0 flare, then secondary M2.6 flare was introduced by the fan-spine reconnection because of the interaction between the expanding field and the nearby quasi-null and formed the observed large-scale quasi-circular flare ribbon.

In the event of a disaster occurring within a building, the prompt and efficient evacuation and rescue of occupants within the building becomes the foremost priority to minimize casualties. For the purpose of such rescue operations, it is essential to ascertain the distribution of individuals within the building. Nevertheless, there is a primary dependence on accounts provided by pertinent individuals like building proprietors or security staff, alongside fundamental data encompassing floor dimensions and maximum capacity. Consequently, accurate determination of the number of occupants within the building holds paramount significance in reducing uncertainties at the site and facilitating effective rescue activities during the golden hour. This research introduces a methodology employing computer vision algorithms to count the number of occupants within distinct building locations based on images captured by installed multiple CCTV cameras. The counting methodology consists of three stages: (1) establishing virtual Lines of Interest (LOI) for each camera to construct a multi-camera network environment, (2) detecting and tracking people within the monitoring area using deep learning, and (3) aggregating counts across the multi-camera network. The proposed methodology was validated through experiments conducted in a five-story building with the average accurary of 89.9% and the average MAE of 0.178 and RMSE of 0.339, and the advantages of using multiple cameras for occupant counting were explained. This paper showed the potential of the proposed methodology for more effective and timely disaster management through common surveillance systems by providing prompt occupancy information.

The purpose of this study was to aid in the prediction of tumor cell tolerance to radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy. For this study, cell surviving curves were obtained for human epidermoid carcinoma A-253 cell line using semiautomated MTT assay. 2,4,6,8,10 Gy were irradiated at a dose rate of 210 cGy/min using /sup 60/Co Irradiator ALDORADO 8. After irradiation, A-253 cell lines(2×10⁴cells/mil were exposed to bleomycin or cisplatin for 1 hour. The viable cells were determined for each radiation dose with/without 2 /lg/mi of drug at the 3rd day. And they were compared to control values. The results were obtained as follows : 1. The surviving curve with gentle slope was obtained after irradiation of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 Gy on A-253 cell line. 2. The cytotoxicity of bleomycin or cisplatin at the concentration of 2㎍/ml was great on A-253 cell line. But, there was no significant difference between the cytotoxicity of bleomycin and that of cisplatin. 3. There were significant differences of surviving fractions after irradiation with 2㎍/mi of bleomycin compared with irradiation only on A-253 cell line. 4. There were significant differences of surviving fractions after irradiation with 2㎍/ml of cisplatin compared with irradiation only on A-253 cell line. 5. There were no significant differences of surviving fractions between the groups of irradiation with bleomycin and the groups of irradiation with cisplatin on A-253 cell line.
Localized resistance against a virulent race of Erysiphe graminis f. sp. hordei by prior inoculation of a virulent or an avirulent race of the same fungus was induced on the near-isogenic barley leaves. Induced resistance could be detected within one hour following challenge inoculation with a virulent or an avirulent inducer race, hut the resistance increased greatly as the interval between the two inoculations was increased, showing the highest level by 6-9 hours of exposure to the inducer race. The level of the induced resistance was proportional to the amount of inducer inoculum applied. The resistances elicited by virulent or avirulent inducer races were similar with respect to the level of resistance and the time needed for its induction.
Background: Cancer reseach is done in earnest world-wide, because cancer is one of most threatening diseases to humans. Orostachyos Herba is a widely used herb that has long been in use in Korea as an anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer therapy. The purpose of this study is to verify any anti-cancer effects on stomach and liver cancer in vitro. Materials & Methods: AGS and KATO III stomach cancer cells and Hep3B and HepG2 liver cancer cells, all obtained from Korean Cell Line Bank, were used. The boiled extract of Orostachyos Herba(20 and 40 microliters) were injected into cultures and observed at 0 hours, and at 24-hour intervals up to 96 hours. The destruction of stomach and liver cancer cells was measured through Trypan blue exclusion testing. The suppression on viability of stomach and liver cancer cells was observed, and anti-cancer mechanisms was examined by analyzing the cell cycle. Results: In morphologic change, AGS, KATO III, HepG2 and Hep3B showed some of the withdrawn and floating appearance that is typical in cellular imparment. AGS, KATO III, HepG2 and Hep3B showed more destruction of stomach cancer cells in each test group than in the control group to a statistically significant degree. Analysis of the cell cycle after introduction of Orostachyos Herba showed very little inhibition of divisions of all cell lines. Conclusions: This experiment suggests that Orostachyos Herba has some anti-tumor effects on stomach and liver cancer cells. Progressive research on Orostachyos Herba and it's anti-tumor effects will be needed to determine its practicability as a cancer treatment.
Huntington's disease (HD) is an autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor, cognitive, and psychiatric symptoms, accompanied by marked cell death in the striatum and cortex. Stereotaxic injection of quinolinic acid (QA) into striatum results in a degeneration of GABAergic neurons and exhibits abnormal motor behaviors typical of the illness. The objective of this study was carried out to obtain basic information about whether parthenogenetic mouse embryonic stem (PmES) cells are suitable for cell replacement therapy of HD. To establish PmES cell lines, hybrid F1 (C57BL/6xCBA/N) mouse oocytes were treated with 7% ethanol for 5 min and cytochalasin-B for 4 hr to initiate spontaneous cleavage. Thus established PmES cells were induced to differentiate using bFGF (20ng/ml) followed by selection of neuronal precursor cells for 8 days in N2 medium. After selection, cells were expanded at the presence of bFGF (20 ng/ml) for another 6 days, then a final differentiation step in N2 medium for 7 days. To establish recipient animal models of HD, young adult mice (7 weeks age ICR mice) were lesioned unilaterally with a stereotaxic injection of QA (60 nM) into the striatum and the rotational behavior of the animals was tested using apomorphine (0.1mg/kg, IP) 7 days after the induction of lesion. Animals rotating more than 120 turns per hour were selected and the differentiated PmES cells (1$\times$10$^4$cells/ul) were implanted into striatum. Four weeks after the graft, immunohistochemical studies revealed the presence of cells reactive to anti-NeuN antibody. However, only a slight improvement of motor behavior was observed. By Nissl staining, cell mass resembling tumor was found at the graft site and near cortex which may explain the slight behavioral improvement. Detailed experiment on cell viability, differentiation and migration explanted in vivo is currently being studied.
Natriuretic peptides comprise a family of three structurally related peptides; atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), and C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP). The present study was performed to investigate the effect of ANP on the proliferation and activity of ROS17/2.8 and HOS cells which are well-characterized osteoblastic cell lines. ANP dose-dependently decreased the number of ROS17/2.8 and HOS cells after 48-hour treatment. ANP generally increased the alkaline phosphatase activity of ROS17/2.8 and HOS cells after 48 hr treatment, regardless of the fact that basal activity of alkaline phosphatase was much lower in HOS cells compared to that of ROS17/1.8 cells. ANP increased the NBT reduction by ROS17/2.8 and HOS cells. ANP showed the variable but no significant effect on the nitric oxide production by ROS17/2.8 and HOS cells. ROS17/2.8 and HOS cells produced and secreted gelatinase into culture medium, and this enzyme was thought to be the gelatinase A type with the molecular weight determination. The gelatinase activity produced by ROS17/2.8 cells was increased by the treatment of ANP. However, the enzyme activity was not affected by ANP treatment in the HOS cell culture. In summary, ANP decreased the proliferation and increased the alkaline phosphatase activity and NBT reduction of osteoblasts. These results indicate that ANP is one of the important regulators of bone metabolism.
Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate exposure levels of various chemicals used in wafer fabrication product lines in the semiconductor industry where work-related leukemia has occurred. Methods: The research focused on 9 representative wafer fabrication bays among a total of 25 bays in a semiconductor product line. We monitored the chemical substances categorized as human carcinogens with respect to leukemia as well as harmful chemicals used in the bays and substances with hematologic and reproductive toxicities to evaluate the overall health effect for semiconductor industry workers. With respect to monitoring, active and passive sampling techniques were introduced. Eight-hour long-term and 15-minute short-term sampling was conducted for the area as well as on personal samples. Results: The results of the measurements for each substance showed that benzene, toluene, xylene, n-butyl acetate, 2-methoxy-ethanol, 2-heptanone, ethylene glycol, sulfuric acid, and phosphoric acid were non-detectable (ND) in all samples. Arsine was either "ND" or it existed only in trace form in the bay air. The maximum exposure concentration of fluorides was approximately 0.17% of the Korea occupational exposure limits, with hydrofluoric acid at about 0.2%, hydrochloric acid 0.06%, nitric acid 0.05%, isopropyl alcohol 0.4%, and phosphine at about 2%. The maximum exposure concentration of propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate (PGMEA) was 0.0870 ppm, representing only 0.1% or less than the American Industrial Hygiene Association recommended standard (100 ppm). Conclusion: Benzene, a known human carcinogen for leukemia, and arsine, a hematologic toxin, were not detected in wafer fabrication sites in this study. Among reproductive toxic substances, n-butyl acetate was not detected, but fluorides and PGMEA existed in small amounts in the air. This investigation was focused on the air-borne chemical concentrations only in regular working conditions. Unconditional exposures during spills and/or maintenance tasks and by-product chemicals were not included. Supplementary studies might be required.

The cytotoxicity of bleomycin or cisplatin was increased significantly at all concentration of 0.2㎍/ml, 2㎍/ml and 20㎍/ml on YAC-1 cell line (P<0.01). And the cytotoxicity of cisplatin was greater than that of bleomycin at all concentration on YAC-1 cell line (P<0.01). 3. There were no significant differences of surviving fractions among 4Gy, 6Gy and 8Gy after irradiation of each radiation dose with 2㎍/ml of bleomycin compared with irradiation only on YAC-1 cell line. 4. There was significant difference of surviving fraction between 2Gy and 10Gy after irradiation of each radiation dose with 2㎍/ml of cisplatin compared with irradiation only on YAC-1 cell line(P<0.05). 5. There were significant differences of surviving fractions between the groups of irradiation only and the groups of irradiation with 2㎍/ml of bleomycin or cisplatin at all doses of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10Gy on YAC-1 cell line(P<0.05).
