  • This paper describes the flow characteristics of circular multiple jet investigated by hot-wire anemometry. The nozzle arrays were classified into two cases; 6- or 7-nozzle located circumferentially in equal interval without or with a central jet. The flow field was measured according to the number of nozzles when the Reynolds number based on the nozzle exit is about $10^4$. Mean velocity, Reynolds shear stress and turbulent kinetic energy were investigated in the downstream of jets. The Tollmien's theory holds for downstream only when a nozzle locates at the center. Jet interaction is influenced due to with or without a center nozzle. In addition, the two-dimensional numerical computation was conducted for 3-nozzle case to obtain the general flow structure near the nozzle exit, which verifies the formation of the recirculation region with captive vortices, that is, the evidence of the interaction between jets.

  • Flow characteristics of the wake behind a finite circular cylinder(FC) mounted on a flat plate was experimentally investigated. Three finite cylinder models having aspect ratio (length to diameter ratio, L/D) of 6,10 and 13 were tested in this study. Wake velocity was measured by a hot-wire anemometry at Reynolds number of 20,000, and the results were compared with those of two-dimensional circular cylinder. As a result, the free-end effect on the wake structure becomes more dominant with decreasing the aspect ratio(L/D) of the finite cylinder. Invisid flow entrained into the wake region decreases the turbulence intensity and periodicity of the vortex shedding due to existence of the free end. From spectral analysis and cross correlation of the velocity signals, vortices having 24Hz frequency characteristics are found in the down wash flow just behind the free end. There exists very complicated flow near the free end due to interaction between the entrained flow and streamwise vortices. Vortex formation region is destroyed significantly in the near wake and shows quite different wake structures from those of 2-D cylinder.

  • The characteristics of the flow field in the tangentially fired furnace are presented. Experiments are conducted in the simplified cold type isothermal flow model. In the measurement of flow field, a hot wire anemometer is used. The hot wire was calibrated by lookup table method. The mean velocity field and turbulence characteristics are showed with changing the nozzle angle. In the center of the model, the low speed, unstable flow region is formed. The size and position of these regions are varied with changing the nozzle angle. It can be used as fundamental data in the design of the large furnace. From the experimental results, various turbulent characteristics of swirling flow field is obtained. And the entrainment mechanism of the jet flow field is described from the distribution of the skewness and the flatness. It can be used the raw data of approximate calculation and turbulent modelling.

  • Chemical application, one of the most important crop management processes happened to cause spray drift, that would threaten farmers in field as well as dwellers in rural region. Spray drift was affected by micro-meteorological parameters. A study to evaluate short distance drift characteristics of a boom sprayer in paddy fields has been undergoing. This study is the first step of the research. Main purpose of the was conducted to develop a mean wind profile and to get information on turbulence intensities above and within rice canopy. Wind in rice paddy field were measured at every 10cm from 10 to 180cm above the ground using a 2-dimensional probe and a hot wire anemometer system. Main results were summarized as follows. 1. Mean wind profile was modeled as; Equations. see full-text 2. Roughness length and zero-displacement in rice canopy were analyzed to be respectively 0.04 and 0.7∼0.72 times of the canopy height. The values are smaller comparing to those of other crops because rice canopy is flexible and uniform comparing to other crops. 3. Turbulence intensities (Tl) was greater as close to the ground and became constant at heights greater than 1.5Hc. where Tl’s were 0.4 and 0.15 in horizontal and vertical direction respectively.

  • In this paper, the performance analysis is experimentally carried out in order to select the best cooling fan and shroud considering both cooling performance and noise reduction. 4 cooling fans have been tested in the fan tester and the real excavator. In order to obtain the performance of the cooling fans, flow capacity has been estimated by measuring flow velocity using a hot wire anemometer, and noise radiation has been also measured to estimate the fan noise. Characteristics of a box-type and a streamlined shroud have been examined by changing the immersion depth of cooling fans. Based upon the results, the best cooling fan is selected. Finally, the criterion to select the best cooling fan has been set up.

  • Swirl flow in the gun type burner has an impact on the stabilization of the flame, improvement of the combustion efficiency. The swirl flow is created by the spinner which is inside the airtube that guide the combustion air. Gun type burner has generally the inner devices composed electronic spark plug, injection nozzle, combustion device adaptor, and spinner. These inner components change the air flow behavior passing through airtube. So, this study conducted the measurement using by hot-wire anemometer and analyzed effect of the swirl number of spinner on the exhaust air of gun type burner. Turbulence characteristics come up in this study was mean velocity, turbulence intensity, kinetic energy, shear stress and flattness factor of the air flow with the change of the distance of axial direction and tangential direction from the exit of the airtube.

  • An experimental study of decaying swirl air flow has been obtained by tangential inlet in a straight tube with Reynolds number range 20,000~40,000. The friction factor, swirl angle, velocity profiles and turbulent intensity are measured by using micro-manometer and hot-wire anemometer. It is found that the swirl flow behaviors depend on the swirl intensity along the test tube.

  • An experimental study is performed to investigate the characteristics of vortex shedding behind a circular cylinder with serrated fins using hot-wire anemometer. Strouhal numbers which are calculated using outer diameter of a circular cylinder with serrated fins are higher than that of a circular cylinder. Fin thickness and pitch are closely related with vortex shedding frequency and play increasing or decreasing vortex shedding after transient Reynolds numbers. Strouhal numbers using effective diameters which are proposed in this paper agree with that of a circular cylinder. After transient Reynolds number, a trend of Strouhal number can be estimated by checking the ratio of effective diameter to inner diameter.

  • An experimental study was undertaken to investigate the effect of coriolis force for the turbulent flow at low Reynolds numbers in a rotating straight square duct. The study was carried out using a hot-wire anemometer. The flow Reynolds number based on the hydraulic diameter ranged from 4,000 to 18,000 and Rotation number ranged from 0 to 0.196. At Re=9000, developing turbulent flow was calculated for mean velocity and Reynolds stress. Pressure coefficient and energy dissipation spectrum were also calculated.

  • Mean velocity and Reynolds stress components of the developing turbulent flows in a rotating 90 degree bend with square cross-section were measured by a hot-wire anemometer. Effects of the centrifugal and Coriolis forces generated by the curvature and rotation of bend on the mean motion and turbulence structures are investigated experimentally. Results show that the Coriolis force associated with the rotation of the bend may act both through the mean motion and turbulent structures, thereby changing the pressure fields, mean and turbulent velocities distributions.
