The deformation behavior of commercial stainless steels under hot rolling conditions was investigated by means of hot compression tests performed in the temperature range 800$^{\circ}C$ to 1200$^{\circ}C$. The measured flow stress-strain curves were analyzed by using a simple flow stress model. It was found that the reference strength of stainless steels are much higher than that of carbon steel and that nitrogen and molybdenum alloying greatly increases flow stress of austenitic stainless steel. Ferritic and duplex stainless steel showed comparatively low flow stresses. The flow stress model, which correlates the flow stress with temperature and strain rate, was applied to predict roll forces during hot-plate rolling of stainless steels.
High performance Nd-Fe-B magnets can be manufactured by both sintering and hot deformation. The corrosion behaviors of the magnets prepared by the two processes were compared. Effect of microstructure on the corrosion resistance of Nd-Fe-B magnets was also investigated. A neutral salt spray test (NSS) was performed for the different-processed magnets. The weight losses of the samples after the corrosion test were measured. The corrosion microstructures were observed using a scanning electron microscope. It shows that the corrosion resistance of hot deformed magnets is much better than that of the sintered ones because the grain size and the distribution of Nd-rich phases of the hot deformed magnets are much finer and more uniform than those of the sintered ones. The different microstructure between the sintered and the hot deformed magnets causes the different corrosion behavior.
The high temperature behavior of Al 6061 alloy was characterized by the hot torsion test in the temperature ranges of 400∼550℃ and the strain rate ranges of 0.05∼5/sec. To decide optimum deformation condition, three types of deformation maps were individually made from the critical strain (εc). deformation resistance(σp) and deformation efficiency (η). The critical strain(εc) for dynamic recrystallization (DRX) which was decided from the inflection point of strain hardening rate(θ) - effective stress (σ) curve was about 0.65 times of peak strain (εp). The relationship among deformation resistance (peak stress, σp), strain rate (ε), and temperature (T) could be expressed by ε=2.9×1013[sinh(0.0256σp]7.3exp (-216,000/RT). The deformation efficiency (η)which was calculated on the basis of the dynamic materials model (DMM) showed high values at the condition of 500∼550℃, 5/sec for 100% strain. The results from three deformation maps were compared with microstructures. The best condition of plastic deformation could be determined as 500℃ and 5/sec.

A new deformation resistance model for hot steel strip rolling process was formulated to improve the accuracy of roll force estimation. To improve the existing deformation resistance model more precisely, a modification function was introduced in this study. For the modification function, several factors considering material and operational conditions have been investigated and the optimal modification function was determined under the principle of minimum variability. The newly formulated modification function was applied to the deformation resistance model for ultra-low carbon steel and showed improved accuracy with about 30% decrease in terms of standard deviation of predicted roll force values against measured ones.

High temperature plastic deformation behavior of Al 6061 alloy was characterized by hot torsion test. The Al 6061 alloy deformed continuously in the temperature range of 400∼550$^{\circ}C$, and strain rate range of 0.05∼5/sec. The softening mechanism of Al 6061 alloy was dynamic recrystallization and identified by hyperbolic sine law and zener-Hollmon parameter. The evolution of grain size and deformation resistance were calculated by the relationships of deformation variables.
Sticking behavior under the hot rolling conditions for ferritic stainless steels have been studied. Sticking, which is a phenomenon that the naked metal exposed to the surface by scale breakaway during hot rolling sticks to the roll surface, was affected by both high temperature tensile strength and oxidation resistance of the steels. A steel having higher tensile strength and lower oxidation resistance exhibits better resistance to the sticking. It is due to that higher tensile strength increases localized deformation resistance and lower oxidation resistance creates lower friction between steel and roll by forming thicker scale as a lubricant during hot rolling. So, the sticking tends to occur more severely in the order of 430J1L, 436L, 430 and 409L. The most sensitive temperature to the sticking was found to be 90$0^{\circ}C$ for all grade of steels. It was also found that the high speed steel(HSS) roll compared to the Hi-Cr roll was more beneficial to prevent sticking. Because higher surface hardness of HSS roll compared to that of Hi-Cr roll provides less nucleation sites for sticking such as scratch on the roll surface.
PURPOSES : The main distress of asphalt pavements in monsoon climate regions are caused by water damage and plastic deformation due to repeated rain season and increased heavy vehicle traffic volume. In this study, the mechanical properties of polymer-modified warm mix asphalt (PWMA) materials are evaluated to use in monsoon climate regions such as Indonesia. METHODS : Comprehensive laboratory tests are conducted to evaluate moisture resistance and permanent deformation resistance for three different asphalt mixtures such as the Indonesian conventional hot-mix asphalt (HMA) mixture, the polymer-modified asphalt mixture, and the polymer-modified warm mix asphalt (PWMA) mixture. Dynamic immersion test and indirect tensile strength ratio test are performed to evaluate moisture resistance. The wheel tracking test is performed to evaluate rutting resistance. Additionally, the Hamburg wheel tracking test is performed to evaluate rutting and moisture resistances simultaneously. RESULTS :The dynamic immersion test results indicate that the PWMA mixture shows the highest resistance to moisture. The indirect tensile strength ratio test indicates that TSR values of PWMA mixture, Indonesian PMA mixture, and Indonesian HMA mixture show 87.2%, 84.1%, and 67.9%, respectively. The wheel tracking test results indicate that the PWMA mixture is found to be more resistant to plastic deformation than the Indonesian PMA. The dynamic stability values are 2,739 times/mm and 3,150 times/mm, respectively. Moreover, the Hamburg wheel tracking test results indicate that PWMA mixture is more resistant to plastic deformation than Indonesian PMA and HMA mixtures. CONCLUSIONS :Based on limited laboratory test results, it is concluded that rutting resistance and moisture susceptibility of the PWMA mixture is superior to Indonesian HMA and Indonesian PMA mixtures. It is postulated that PWMA mixture would be suitable for climate and traffic conditions in Indonesia.

Once hot forgings for automotive parts such as wheel bearing flange to which cyclic asymmetric bending stress is continuously applied are produced, it is necessary to control their microstructure to obtain superior mechanical properties. It is however hard to control the microstructure uniformly because the strength is reduced as coarsening of ferrite grains. To investigate the microstructural alteration according to process variables during hot working, the variation of the ferrite grain size was studied by utilizing of the computer aided servo-hydraulic Gleeble tester which is hot deformation behavior reproduction equipment. In addition, the effect of the ferrite grain size of raw material on the austenite grain behavior of hot forgings was also examined. The rolling contact fatigue resistance of the induction hardened SAE 1055 steel was compared with the occasion of the same condition of SAE52100 bearing steel. As a result, it was confirmed that the ferrite grain sizes of the forgings depend on the heating temperature and cooling start temperature during hot forging and cooling processes. The induction hardened SAE1055 steel showed a superior rolling contact fatigue resistance to the induction hardened SAE52100 steel. The reason is that SAE1055 steel is freer from the material defect such as segregation than the comparative steel.
Recent trend and future prospect of flat rolling of steel has been summarized based on the earlier reports. Key technology in the plate rolling is to have ultra fine microstructure having high resistance against crack propagation during application. Heavy accelerated cooling facility and high power rolling mill will be helpful to develope the high toughness steel. Precise modeling of properly prediction based on deformation and transformation imposed on microstructure of steel during processing is highly anticipated. For the hot strip rolling process, new trend is lies on the production of ultra-thin gauged hot strip to substitute cold rolled strip. For the substitution of cold rolled strip into hot rolled strip widely, high formable property of hot strip is highly required. For the formabilit, the ferritic rolling of extra low carbon steel under high lubricated condition is essential. Recently introduced semi-continuous thin slab and rolling mill line is very plausible to develope those kinds of products easily In the view groin facility combination. New idea to modify the existing continuous hot strip mill line to produce the ultra thin-gauged hot strip in an economic way is suggested in this report.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of precipitate on the high temperature deformation stability of incoloy 825 alloy. $Cr_{23}C_6$ carbide was precipitated under $950^{\circ}C$, but was not detected over $1,000^{\circ}C$. Most of the precipitation consist of $Cr_{23}C_6$ carbide. Strain-rate sensitivity was the highest in 0.01/s and the lowest in 10/s. Strain-rate sensitivity was decreased sharply below $950^{\circ}C$. In the temperature between $850^{\circ}C{\sim}1,150^{\circ}C$, plastic instable area did not exist. It showed the lowest Ziegler Parameter value of 0.06 Ziegler Parameter was the lowest as 0.06 at $850^{\circ}C$ with 10s-1 of strain. The highest Ziegler Parameter value(0.43) was found in plastic deformation at $1,050^{\circ}C$ with 0.01s-1 of strain. It tends to have an higher resistance to the high temperature deformation under $950^{\circ}C$, due to the precipitation.
