Plows in the LOX manifold with two different types of predistributor have been analyzed using a CAE technique. The computational geometry and flow condition through the injection holes resemble those in the actual manifold of the liquid rocket, so that the results can describe the actual flow reasonably It is noted that two different types of predistributors lead to very similar pressure and mass distributions in the plane just above the injection holes. Also the pressure drop across the injection holes is rather uniform regardless of location of the holes and this would suggest that the simplified modeling of the flow through the injection holes is possible from an engineering point of view.
There are many types of holes to be machined on dies manufactured in the car industry. In this paper we introduce a CAM software developed for hole machining of press dies. The CAM software automatically generates NC files for machining holes from CAD data modeled in the CATIA system. A procedure generating NC files consists of three steps. First, the geometric information such as types of holes, hole positions, hole diameters, and hole depths is extracted from CATIA models. And then tools to be used and operation orders are standardized to establish a data base. Finally, NC files are generated by considering the machining conditions such as feedrate and rpm. It is efficient that holes with the same type and the same size should be grouped and machined by a tool to reduce the tool change time. The optimal tool path for machining the holes in a group can be determined by applying an algorithm solving the traveling salesman problem.

The fabrication of micro-scale irregular holes by using PMMA (Poly Methyl Methacrylate) beads in the front dielectric layer was proposed to improve luminous efficacy of an ac plasma display panel. Through the firing process of front dielectric layer, bowl shaped holes with a depth of $2.5{\mu}m$, a top diameter of $8-12{\mu}m$, and a bottom diameter of $4-7{\mu}m$ were fabricated. The proposed ac plasma display panel with the irregular micro-scale holes improved the luminous efficacy by 18 % due to the decrease in the minimum sustain voltage.
Nowadays a lot of high-tech electronic products such as TVs, monitors and camcorders are being developed. The more functions the electronic devices have, the more heat problems occur. Therefore, most of electronic products have air-ventilation holes to eliminate heat that is generated inside the products. The shapes of ventilation holes are usually complicated since aesthetic appearance of the products is important these days. In order to create those complicated shapes, designers should do time-consuming jobs because most of commercial CAD systems do not provide the functions that create patterns of lofted parts along freeform surfaces. In this research, an automated air-ventilation hole modeling system was proposed. The system generates patterns of lofted objects on freeform surfaces. Standard process to create air-ventilation holes manually was established, and vent-hole types and pattern types were classified into several categories. Designers can create many kinds of vent-holes by combining vent-hole types and pattern types. Users can also utilize user-defined pattern which can give users more flexibility. Developed system was applied to several design examples and the results are presented.
In this study, free vibration and damping characteristics of composite beams with holes are investigated, experimentally and numerically. Two types of samples with different fabrics are used: unidirectional and woven. The effects of diameter, number and location of circular holes on the vibration characteristics of composite beams are examined. The effects of rotation angle and minor to major diameter ratio of the elliptical hole are also investigated numerically. Moreover, the mode shapes of all types of beams are obtained numerically. According to the results, the natural frequency decreases with increasing hole diameter but increases very little with increasing the distance between the hole center and the clamped end. Damping ratio decreases by increasing the diameter of hole. But it fluctuates by increasing the diameters of holes of beam having three holes. Furthermore it decreases by increasing the distance between hole center and clamped end except for the range 50 mm to 100 mm.
The vortex tube is a sample device for separating a compressed gaseous fluid stream into two flows of high and low temperature without any chemical reactions. The phenomena of energy separation through the vortex tube were investigated experimentally, to see the effects of the number of nozzle holes on the energy separation. The experiment was carried out with the number of nozzle holes from 1 to 10 by varying inlet pressure and cold mass fraction. The experimental results were indicated that the effective number of nozzle holes for the best cooling performance was found as 4. Also, to find effective use in a given operation conditions, the temperature difference of cold air and the cooling capacity of vortex tube was compared. The result is that cooling capacity was more important than temperature difference of cold air.
In this study, to create circular holes on an inclined conic face, we developed a novel process of vertical piercing on the plane before drawing, instead of applying an expensive cam-piercing method. The pierced holes are deformed during the drawing, and their shapes are affected by the size of the center hole. Using the Abaqus CAE program, the deformation tendency of the holes, according to the diameter of the center hole, was identified, and the diameter for securing the roundness of the side holes were determined through actual experiments. The developed process was successfully applied to mass production of the part, and a cost reduction is expected.
The present study has been conducted to investigate convective heat/mass transfer inside the cooling passage with bleed holes. The rotating square channel has 40.0 mm hydraulic diameter and the bleed holes on the leading surface of the channel. The hole diameter of bleed hole is 4.5 mm and its spacing (P/d=4.9) is about five times of hole diameter. Mass flow rate through bleed holes is 10% of the main flow rate and rotation number is changed form 0.0 to 0.4. A naphthalene sublimation technique is employed to determine the detailed local heat transfer coefficients using the heat and mass transfer analogy. The cooling performance is influenced by mass flow rate through bleed holes and Coriolis force of rotating channel for fixed reynolds number. The heat transfer is enhanced around holes on the leading surface because of trapping flow by bleeding. However heat transfer on the leading surface is decreased due to Coriolis force.
Temperature distributions and thermal stresses were calculated and analyzed to investigate the effect of the artificial holes to the transient behaviors of the superconductors which was cooled in liquid nitrogen. Three dimensional finite element method was used to calculated the transient temperature and thermal stresses in the superconductors. The cooling speed of the superconductors with holes is faster than those without holes. Because the thermal stresses calculated in the superconductors can be relaxed by the distributed holes, the volume of the peak tensile stress decreases during the cooling in liquid nitrogen. If optimal metal, which can maintain the relaxation of thermal stresses, is used to fill and reinforce the artificial holes, the probability of failure of the superconductors may be decreased by the decrease of volume of peak tensile stress.
Using a semi-circled blunt body model, the geometrical effects of injection hole on the turbine blade leading edge film cooling are investigated. The film cooling characteristics of two shaped holes (laterally- and streamwise-diffused holes) and three cylindrical holes with different lateral injection angles, 30°, 45°, 60°, respectively, are compared with those of cylindrical hole with no lateral injection angle experimentally and numerically. Kidney vortices, which decrease the adiabatic film cooling effectiveness, appear on downstream of the cylindrical hole with no lateral injection angle. At downstream of the two shaped holes have better film cooling characteristics than the cylindrical one. Instead of kidney vortices, single vortex appears on downstream of injection holes with lateral injection angle. The adiabatic film cooling effectiveness is symmetrically distributed along the lateral direction downstream of the cylindrical hole with no lateral injection angle. But, at downstream of the cylindrical holes with lateral injection angle, the distribution of adiabatic film cooling effectiveness in the lateral direction shows asymmetric nature and high adiabatic film cooling effectiveness regions are more widely distributed than those of the cylindrical hole with no lateral injection angle. As the blowing ratio increases, also, the effects of hole shapes and injection angles increase.
