Blastocystis is an enteric Straminopile in tropical, subtropical and developing countries. Metronidazole has been a chemotheraputic for blastocystosis. Failures in its regimens were reported and necessitate new studies searching for alternative therapeutic agents. Aim of current study is to investigate potential effects of Atorvastatin (AVA) compared to the conventional chemotherapeutic MTZ in experimentally Blastocystis-infected mice. Anti-Blastocystis efficacy of AVA was evaluated parasitologically, histopathologically and by transmission electron microscopy using MTZ (10 mg/kg) as a control. Therapeutic efficacy of AVA were apparently dose-dependent. Regimens of AVA (20 and 40 mg/kg) proved effective against Blastocystis infections with highreduction in Blastocystis shedding (93.4-97.9%) compared to MTZ (79.3%). The highest reductions (98.1% and 99.4%)were recorded in groups of combination treatments AVA 20-40 mg/kg and MTZ 10 mg/kg. Blastocystis was nearly eradicated by the 20th day post infection. Genotype analysis revealed that genotype I was most susceptible, genotype III was less. Histopathologic and ultrastructural studies revealed apoptotic changes in Blastocystis and significant improvement of intestinal histopathological changes more remarkable in combinational therapy groups. Thus, the present study offers AVA as a potential candidate for Blastocystis therapy combined with MTZ.
The toxicity and histopathologic changes of diazinon (O, O-diethy-O-(2-isopropyl-6-methyl-4-pyrimidinyl)phosphorothioate) was investigated in rat. Rat was treated with diazinon (100 mg/kg/day) by oral administration for 12 days. The experimental results were summarized as follows. Biochemical parameters such as ALT, AST, LDH and glucose in serum were significantly increased and hematological parameters such as Hb, Hct and PLT in blood were slightly increased in treated groups. Also the activities of serum cholinesterase were very significantly decreased in treated groups. In the histopathological changes, the normal lobular architectural pattern of the liver was well preserved in all treated groups. However, vacuolation or fatty change were represent in hepatocytes. Sections of liver from rats treated with diazinon for 3 and 6 days contained slight lipid infiltration in the form of small droplets randomly distributed that were graded minimal (+) or moderate (++) compared with the respective control condition. After 9 days, there were numerous small and large vacuoles in the terminal hepatic venule and perilobular areas of many serial sections of these rats indicative of fatty infiltration which were graded moderate (++) and severe (+++). After 12 days, fatty infiltration progressed periportal tract areas and graded severe (+++) and very severe (++++) in experimental groups. Note absence of cellular necrosis or inflammation.

Animal models of atopic dermatitis (AD) are widely used to investigate therapeutic effects of candidates for AD. However, the characteristics of each model are not fully understood. This study was designed to compare the animal models of dermatitis induced by dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB) and oxazolone (Ox). We investigated the effects of DNFB and Ox on skin thicknesses and weights as well as skin lesions associated with AD such as scale, crust and erythematous eruption, and histopathological changes such as hyperkeratosis, dermal and epidermal hyperplasia and immune cell infiltration in inflamed tissues. Multiple application of 0.5% Ox onto the skin increased skin thickness and weight compared to those of DNFB treated mice, as well as those of normal mice. In addition, topical application of DNFB induced marked scale, crust and erythematous eruption, while Ox induced erythematous eruption and mild scale and crust. Histopathological examination revealed that 0.5% Ox induced marked hyperplasia in the dermis and epidermis, large vesicles, spongiotic changes, mild hyperkeratosis and immune cell infiltration in balb/c mice. These data suggest that multiple applications of Ox can induce chronic AD like dermatitis in balb/c mice.
This study was undertaken to clarify the histopathological changes of pigs naturally infected with hog cholera. Microscopic observations of the brain as well as clinical observations were carried out for the naturally and experimentally infected pigs with hog cholera viruses. Electron microscopically the vascular cuffings of the brain were also observed in the experiment. In addition, clinical and pathological studios were carried out in the rabbits inoculated with ALD, lapinized and isolated strain of hog cholera virus, respectively. The results obtained are as follows; Vascular cuffing of the brain was observed in about 97% of the natural cases and all of the experimental cases. Among the 496 cuffed blood vessels of natural cases, intramural cuffing (82.9%), intramural and perivascular cuffing (11.9%) and perivascular cuffing (5.2%) were seen, respectively. Electron microscopic findings on cuffed blood vessels of the brain were endothelial cellular degeneration, intramural separation and vacuolation, perivascular vacuolation and infiltration of pleomorphic lymphoid cells. In the rabbits dosed with tissue suspension of the lymphoid organs and isolated hog cholera virus, high body temperature and vascular cuffing of the brain were observed, meanwhile these changes were more significant in pre-injected cased with indian ink.
This study was undertaken to compare the histopathological effects of the fractionated doses of 2,400, 4,800 and 7,200 rads of Cobalt-60 irradiation on the teeth of the sixty eight rats (Wester strain), weighing approximately 130gm. They were devided into four groups; no irradiation as a control (Group I) and others (Group II, III, and IV) which received different doses of radiation using 1.25 Mev RAC-120 Cobalt-60 Teletherapy Unit with exposure dose rate 69 rads/min, TSD 80cm. Experimental animals received 600 rads every three days until the total dosage of their groups were reached. Experimental animals were sacrified at the 1st day, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th week irradiation. The following histopathologic findings were obtained: 1. The Group II, received 2,400 rads, showed no histopamologic changes essentially same as those of the control Group. 2. In the Groups III and IV, received 4,800 rads and 7,200 rads, disarray of the normal palasading arrangement of the odontoblastic cells, vacuolar degeneration in the odontoblastic layer, osteodentin and dentinal niches in the anterior teeth were observed. 3. There were no distinct changes in the posterior teeth in the Groups III and IV. 4. The ameloblast cells seemed to be less sensitive to radiation damage than the odontoblast cells.
Platelet activating factor (PAP) has been known as implicating as one of potent inflammatory mediators and reported 0 be involved in inflammation and allergy. PAF induces ciliary dysfunction and epithelial damage of human paranasal sinus mucosa in vitro. However, several recent papers have reported that PAF may not readily damage the airway epithelium. The aim of this study was to investigate the ultrastructural evidence to elucidate the pathogenesis of epithelial damage induced by PAF. Sixteen $\mu\textrm{g}$ g of PAF was applied into the maxillary sinuses of 6 rabbits. Rabbits were divided into 2 subgroups along with time interval at 1st and 3rd experimental day, and sinus mucosae were taken for the histopathologic study using electron microscopy. At 1st day, epithelial cells showed no ultrastructural change. Ultrastructures of the cilia were well preserved. Subepithelial space showed no evidence of the infiltration of inflammatory cells. Intravascular platelet aggregation and swelling of endothelial cells were evident. At 3rd day, epithelial cells showed vacuolar degeneration. Fusion of cilia forming giant cilia and focal loss of cilia were evident. Eosinophils were infiltrated in subepithelial and intraepithelial space. Swelling of endothelial cells, and migration of inflammatory cells into the connective tissue were evident. This study implies that epithelial damage induced by PAF may be secondary to the cytotoxicity of mobilized eosinophils rather than direct cytotoxicity of PAF.
The purpose of this study was to observe the microscopic change of salivary gland tissues, which is the cause of xerostomia in diabetic condition: for this target the author injected STZ 0.1ml/100gm b.w. on rat to produce diabetes, and than observed microscopic change in submandibular gland through the histopathologic method, obtaining as follows : 1. All of the experimental specimens suffered diabetes after injection of STZ, but the blood glucose level was irregular. 2. There were not interrelationship between the blood glucose level and microscopic change on salivary gland tissues. 3. The salivary gland changed after diabetes initiation in lapse of times; after 14 days, suffered severe destruction, however after 17 days, it was regenerated. 4. Salivary glands showed congested, destructive acini cells, and hyperplastic ductal cells as well as salivary gland duct-like structures. 5. Then were accumulation of fat granules within the cytoplasm of the acini cells on mucous gland in diabetic condition. 6. According to insulin injection, there were no more changes on salivary gland tissues, even in the accumulation of fat granules. 7. Histological changes of the serous gland were obvious more than the mucous gland in this experimental condition.

To evaluate the role of xanthine oxidase in liver damage by CCl4, a group of rats were fed tungstate for a month, which suppressed the activities of xanthine oxidase in serum and liver. Control group of rats were fed standard diet without tungstate. Liver damage was induced both in tungstate fed and control groups by two intraperitoneal injections of CCl4 at the level of 0.1ml/100g body weight at intervals of 24 hours. Increases in the levels of serum alanine aminotransferase by CCl4 were significantly smaller in tungstate fed rats than in control rats. Concomitantly, histopathologic changes were less in tungstate fed rats than in control ones. In rats either treated with CCl4 or not, hepatic type O xanthine oxidase activities were remarkably reduced by tungstate feeding. Hepatic aniline hydroxylase activities were higher in rats fed tungstate than control rats when animals were not treated with CCl4, but the enzyme activities were lower in tungstate fed rats than control when they were treated with CCl4. Neither tungstate feeding nor CCl4 treatment caused any significant changes in hepatic glutathione contents, and activities of hepatic glutathione S-transferase, glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase. It is concluded xanthine oxidase reaction augment CCl4 induced liver damage via oxygen free radical system.
Vestibular schwannoma (VS) usually present the widening of internal auditory canal (IAC), and these bony changes are typically limited to IAC, not extend to temporal bone. Temporal bone invasion by VS is extremely rare. We report 51-year-old man who revealed temporal bone destruction beyond IAC by unilateral VS. The bony destruction extended anteriorly to the carotid canal and inferiorly to the jugular foramen. On histopathologic examination, the tumor showed typical benign schwannoma and did not show any unusual vascularity or malignant feature. Facial nerve was severely compressed and distorted by tumor, which unevenly eroded temporal bone in surgical field. Vestibular schwannoma with atypical invasion of temporal bone can be successfully treated with combined translabyrinthine and lateral suboccipiral approach without facial nerve dysfunction. Early detection and careful dissection of facial nerve with intraoperative monitoring should be considered during operation due to severe adhesion and distortion of facial nerve by tumor and eroded temporal bone.
This trial is concerned with practical application of a M. C. that was injected Into the horse's muscle in order to make a effective identification by computer compatible. Following results were obtained through the study of histopathologic changes, migration of M. C. and possible problems about practical application. 1. Muscle romboideus cervicalis(site 'A') was thought to be the best Injection site of M. C. in the horse. 2. There were no the exact interface between the M. C. and surrounding tissue. It seemed to be why the implanted transponder was located in the muscle fascia. 3. No evidence of migration in the tissues was found through the radiographs taken after implantation 4. There were no clinical disorder and interference with racing performance. 5. ID 100 from Trovan, Co. had some advantages comparing with TX 1400 L from Destron, Co. These are, for instance, the long readout distance and the easy application of computer in the field practive.
