In this study, we investigated the cause of a voltage controller failure that occurred in the operation of a combat vehicle and attempted to establish a solution for the failure. The failure in the voltage controller was found to be related to thermal resistance, which could be identified by disassembly analysis and a high temperature operation test. Especially, in the disassembly analysis, there was damage caused by high temperature such as soot on the molding material and cracking of the resisters. In addition, in the high temperature operation test, the test results show that the internal temperature of the voltage controller was relatively higher than the external temperature. This means that the voltage controller failure could be attributed to the excessive heat and insufficient thermal resistance. In order to improve the thermal resistance of the voltage controller, several designs with changing circuits and structures were devised. Improvement of thermal resistance was verified by measuring reduction of internal temperatures in the high temperature comparison test.
1-Nitropyrene (1-NP), 2-NP and 2-nitrofluoranthene (2-NFR) are useful markers for studying the atmospheric behaviors of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and nitropolycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (NPAHs). However, present methods for measuring trace levels of these compounds are lesssensitive and laborious. Here we describe several improvements to a previously reported high-performance liquid chromatography-chemiluminescence detection system that allows it to determine trace levels of 1-, 2-NPs and 2-NFR. The proposed system was equipped with a reducer column packed with Pt/Rh instead of zinc whose life-time was limited. The combination of Cosmosil MS-II (monomeric ODS) and AR-II (polymeric ODS) columns was used instead of polymeric ODS columns as the separator column to improve the separation. An ethanol mixture with acetate buffer (pH 5.5) was used in place of an acetonitrile mixture with the same buffer to activate the reducer column. The same ethanol mixture was used as the mobile phase for the clean-up column. The switching time of the column switching valve was optimized to concentrate the amino-derivatives of above NPAHs quantitatively on the concentrator column. The concentrations of bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenly) oxalate and hydrogen peroxide in the chemiluminescence reagent solution were optimized to 0.4 mM and 30 mM, respectively, to increase the sensitivity. Under the above conditions, the detection limits (S/N=3) of 1-, 2-NPs and 2-NFR were 1 fmol (0.25 pg), 10 fmol (2.5 pg) and 4 fmol (1 pg), respectively. The proposed system was effectively used to determine trace levels of 1-, 2-NPs and 2-NFR in airborne particulates collected at Noto Peninsula. The atmospheric concentrations of 1-, 2-NPs and 2-NFR were not more than sub pg $m^{-3}$ levels. They were higher in winter (January) than in summer (July). In both seasons, the concentrations were in decreasing order, [2-NFR]>[1-NP]>[2-NP].
Photocatalytic oxidation in the presence of Fe-doped, Zn-doped or Fe-Zn co-doped $TiO_2$ was used to effectively decompose humic acids (HAs) in water. The highest HAs removal efficiency (65.7%) was achieved in the presence of $500^{\circ}C$ calcined 0.0010% Fe-Zn co-doped $TiO_2$ with the Fe:Zn ratio of 3:2. The initial solution pH value, inorganic cations and anions also affected the catalyst photocatalytic ability. The HAs removal for the initial pH of 2 was the highest, and for the pH of 6 was the lowest. The photocatalytic oxidation of HAs was enhanced with the increase of the $Ca^{2+}$ or $Mg^{2+}$ concentration, and reduced when concentrations of some anions increased. The inhibition order of the anions on $TiO_2$ photocatalytic activities was $CO{_3}^{2-}$ > $HCO_3{^-}$ > $Cl^-$, but a slightly promotion was achieved when $SO{_4}^{2-}$ was added. Total organic carbon (TOC) removal was used to evaluate the actual HAs mineralization degree caused by the $500^{\circ}C$ calcined 0.0010% Fe-Zn (3:2) co-doped $TiO_2$. For tap water added with HAs, the $UV_{254}$ and TOC removal rates were 57.2% and 49.9%, respectively. The $UV_{254}$ removal efficiency was higher than that of TOC because of the generation of intermediates that could significantly reduce the $UV_{254}$, but not the TOC.

In this study, two rectangular barges in close proximity were simulated to analyze the characteristics of motion responses due to hydrodynamic interactions. Using a numerical solution from DNV-GL SESAM, coupled stiffness matrix terms for these same FEM models were added to the multiple body modes in the surge direction. Potential theory was used to calculate the first order radiation and diffraction effects on the simulated barge models. In the results, the sheltering effect of the barges was not shown at 1.3 rad/s with hull separation of 20 m in transverse waves. The separation effect between the barges was more clear with longitudinal waves and a shallow water depth. However, sway forces were influenced by hull separation with transverse waves. The peaks for sway and heave motion and sway force occurred at higher frequencies as hull separation narrowed with longitudinal and transverse waves. Given a depth of 10 m, the sway motion on the lee side of a coupled barge made a significant difference in the range of 0.2-0.8 rad/s with transverse and oblique waves. Also, the peaks for sway force were situated at lower frequencies, even when incident waves changed.
The main goal of this study was to produce transgenic piglets by the method of injection of sperm-mediated exogenous DNA. Spermatozoa (1$\times$106 sperm of final concentration) obtained from caudal epididymis were mixed with pBC1-hEPO (20 ng/${mu}ell$) or pcDNA3 LAC Z (20 ng/${mu}ell$), and followed by electroporation (500 V, 25 ㎌). Matured oocytes having the first polar body and dense cytoplasm were selected and centrifuged at 12,000g for 6 min. After sperm injection, the oocytes were activated electrically (1.7 ㎸/cm, 30 $\mu$ sec, single pulse) in 0.3 M mannitol solution. Eggs injected sperm were cultured in NCSU 23 medium (0.4% BSA) at 39$^{\circ}C$, 5% $CO_2$ in air for 192 h. This study were comprised 3 experiments. Experiment 1 compared the developmental efficiencies between the sperm-injected oocytes (Group 1) and further activated electrically (Group 2). Experiment 2 compared the expression of pcDNA3 LAC Z in the embryos produced by Group 1 and Group 2. Finally, experiment 3 carried out transfer of embryos (1-8 cell stage) transfected with pBC1 -hEPO into surrogate recipients synchronized by injection of combination of PG600 with hCG. The rates of cleavage and development into blastocyst stage in Group 2 were significantly higher than those of Group 1 (71.3% and 28.1% vs. 43.3% and 10.3%, respectively, p<0.05). Thirty (24.2%) out of 124 embryos analyzed in Group 2 were positive by X-gal. Similarly, in Group 1, 16.3% (8/49) were positive. After transfer of 789 embryos to 7 recipient gilts, three out of them examined by ultrasound became pregnant. One recipient is in day 50 pregnancy. On day 54 of gestation, two were carried out uterotomy in order to confirm the pregnancy One had 7 and another had 2 fetuses. We conclude that injection of sperm-mediated gene transfer will be used as a valuable tool for the production of transgenic piglets.
It is preented the removable moving screen media-activated sludge (REMSMAS) process by using the biological fixed-film systems. The substrate removal kinetic difference between the aeration-only completed mixing activated sludge (CMAS) process and REMSMAS process were observed. The substrate removal kinetics were developed based on the attached and suspended microbial growths. The units of the aeration-only CMAS process were continously operated with the normal detention time of 4.5, 6, 9.5 and 12 flours studies after steady-state condition and the operating of the REMSMAS units conducted with the normal detention time of 6 and 12 hours studies in nonsteady-state condition. The feed solution was diluted 18 times to the raw starch wastewater in of order to maintain the proper COD (950mg/l) and BOD (450mg/l) concentration. Design parameters related to the suspended microbial growths were caculated by the equations used in the aeration-only CMAS model and these parameters used to evalute the kinetic constants in the REMSMAS process. The kinetic constant values of $Y_2,\;K_d,(\mu_{max})_s\;and\;K_s$ from Monod equations were respectively 0.78, 0.027/hr, 1.1/hr and 95mg/l in the aeration-only CMAS process. The value of the aera capacity (F) appeared to be $9.1\;mg/cm^2-day$ and the mean value of the saturation constant $(K_g)$ appeared to be 53.5 mg/l in the REMSMAs process. Also, the substrate removal .ate of the REMSMAS process was higher than that of the normal activated sludge process when this system was operated in steady-state condition. However, the rate was reduced as the critical operating day was approached.

This study started by examining 24 newly-built elementary schools in Sejong City with regard to their present conditions of in-between space. After categorizing the space according to its spatial composition, 5 schools were selected and analyzed in relation to the current status and frequency of use of their in-between space. Among the (other schools, the analysis gave the following results: 1) There was much higher usage of the in-between space for rest/play than for learning, which suggested that more rest/play area and apparatus should be provided. 2) Piloti areas were preferred, and a greater number of activities took place in these places than in the adjoining open areas. 3) When the in-between space was combined with a passage (as in the case of E2 and E3), a separation must be provided in order not to interfere with the rest/play activities. 4) In planning the in-between space, priority should be given to activities over landscape purposes. 5) Diverse and easy access to the space must be planned, particularly as the main entrance is not directly connected to the space. Entry at the end of an adjacent building could be a possible solution.

In this paper, a numerical analysis is carried out to study the characteristics of supercavitating flows and the drag of relatively simple two-dimensional and axisymmetric bodies which can be used for supercavity generation device, cavitator, of a high-speed underwater vehicle. In order to investigate the suitability of numerical models, cavity flows around the hemispherical head form and two-dimensional wedge are calculated with combinations of three turbulence models(standard $k-{\epsilon}$, realizable $k-{\epsilon}$, Reynolds stress) and two cavitation models(Schnerr-Sauer, Zwart-Gerber-Belamri). From the results, it is confirmed that the calculated cavity flow is more affected by the turbulence model than the cavitation model. For the calculation of steady state cavity flows, the convergence in case of the realizable $k-{\epsilon}$ model is better than the other turbulence models. The numerical result of the Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model is changed less by turbulence model and more robust than the Zwart-Gerber-Belamri model. Thus the realizable $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulence model and the Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model are applied to calculate supercavitating flows around disks, two dimensional $10^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$ wedges. In case of the disk, the cavitation number dependences of the cavity size and the drag coefficient predicted are similar to either experimental data or Reichardt's semi-empirical equations, but the drag coefficient is overestimated about 3% higher than the Reichardt's equation. In case of the wedges, the cavitation number dependences of the cavity size are similar to experimental data and Newman's linear theory, and the agreement of the cavity length predicted and Newman's linear theory becomes better as decreasing cavitation number. However, the drag coefficients of wedges agree more with experimental data than those of Newman's analytic solution. The cavitation number dependences of the drag coefficients of both the disk and the wedge appear linear and simple formula for estimating the drag of supercavitating disks and wedges are suggested. Consequently, the CFD scheme of this study can be applied for numerical analysis of supercavitating flows of the cavitator and the cavitator design.

The lignin-based carbon nanofiber reinforced epoxy composite has been prepared by immersing carbon nanofiber mat in epoxy resin solution in order to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties. The thermal and mechanical properties of the carbon nanofiber reinforced epoxy composite were analyzed using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and tensile tester. It was found that the thermal properties of the carbon nanofiber reinforced epoxy composite improved, with its glass-transition temperature ($T_g$) increased from $90.7^{\circ}C$ ($T_g$ of epoxy resin itself) to $106.9^{\circ}C$. The tensile strengths of carbon nanofiber mats made from both lignin-g-PAN copolymer and PAN were 7.2 MPa and 9.4 MPa, respectively. The resulting tensile strength of lignin-based carbon nanofiber reinforced epoxy composite became 43.0 MPa, the six times higher than that of lignin-based carbon nanofiber mats. The carbon nanofibers were pulled out after the tensile test of the carbon nanofiber reinforced epoxy composite due to high tensile strength (478.8 MPa) of an individual carbon nanofiber itself as well as low interfacial adhesion between fibers and matrices, confirmed by the SEM analysis.

Fabricating photocatalytic composite membrane with a mesoporous and tailored morphological structure would have significant implication for environmental remediation. In this study, we reported hybrid $TiO_2$ immobilized photocatalytic membrane and its application for the treatment of dye solution. Photocatalytic film with high porosity and homogeneity was fabricated by graft copolymer as polymer template. Hybridization of membrane filtration with photocatalysis was successfully achieved by photocatalytic membrane reactor developed. Result showed that membrane permeability was significantly reduced after immobilizing the $TiO_2$ film on bare $Al_2O_3$ support. The membrane characterization indicated that well organized $TiO_2$ film was successfully formed on $Al_2O_3$ support. Benefiting from the controlled morphology of $TiO_2$ film, the composite membrane exhibited almost complete degradation of organic dye within 5 h of filtration under UV illumination. Langmuir-Hinshelwood model explained degradation of organic dye. First-order rate constant was approximately six times with $TiO_2$ immobilized composite ceramic membrane, higher than the one with the bare $Al_2O_3$ support (0.0081 vs. $0.0013min^{-1}$).
