A steam turnine in thermal/nuclear power plant drives generator and maintains it at rated speed using high temperature and high pressure steam energy. After synchronization in parallel with the power system, generator output increases according as the governor, that is the controller, increases steam flow into turbine. By the way, as the steam flow into turbine can not be reduced fast even though the electrical load is lost, the turbine gets into dangerous situation due to the increase of its speed. At this time, the duty of the turbine governor is to limit the speed to its overspeed trip setpoint by stopping the steam flow as soon as possible, the test of which is called load rejection test. It is introduced in this paper for a simulation test of generator load rejection to be implemented on the turbine governor in a 600MW nuclear power plant before its startup.
Cosine and Sine function is widely used for the arithmetic, translation, object drawing, Simulation and etc. of Computer Graphics in Natural Science and Engineering. In general, Cordic Algorithm is effective method since it has relatively small size and simple architecture on trigonometric function generation. However profitably it has those merits, the problem of operation speed is occurred. In graphic display system, the operation result of object drawing is quantized and has the condition that is satisfied with rms error less than 1. So in this paper, the proposed generator is composed of partition operation at each ${\pi}/4$ and basic Cosine, Sine function generator in the range of $0{\sim}{\pi}/4$ using the lower order of Tayler's series in an acceptable error range, that enlarge the range of $0{\sim}2{\pi}$ according to a definition of the trigonometric function for the purpose of having a high speed Cosine, Sine function generation. And, division operator using code partition for divisor three is proposed, the proposed function generator has high speed operation, but it has the problems in the other application parts with accurate results, is need to increase the speed of the multiplication.
This paper presents experimental results and its assessment of a variable-speed wind power generation system (VSWPGS) using permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) and boost chopper circuit (BCC). Experimental results are obtained by a test bench with a wind turbine emulator (WTE). WTE reproduces the behaviors of a windmill by using servo motor drives. The mechanical torque references to drive the servo motor are calculated from the windmill wing profile, wind velocity, and windmill rotational speed. VSWPGS using PMSG and BCC has three speed control modes for the level of wind velocity to control the rotational speed of the wind turbine. The control mode for low wind velocity regulates an armature current of generator with BCC. The control mode for middle wind velocity regulates a DC link voltage with a vector-controlled inverter. The control mode for high wind velocity regulates a pitch angle of the wind turbine with a pitch angle control system. The hybrid of three control modes extends the variable-speed range. BCC simplifies the maintenance of VSWPGS while improving reliability. In addition, VSWPGS using PMSG and BCC saves cost compared with VSWPGS using a PWM converter.
Recently more attention is paid to the development of high-speed permanent magnet (PM) synchronous generators driven by gas-turbine, since they are conductive to high efficiency, high power density, small size, low weight, simple mechanical construction, easy maintenance and good reliability. In this paper, the performance analysis of a high-speed PM synchronous generator for military power application considering the min-max operating speed is presented. The output current and power versus DC-link voltage loci can obtained by solving the PM machine's steady-state equations for variable resistive load.
This paper deals with the study on the rotordynamic and experimental analysis of turbine-generator system connected with a magnetic coupling. Although magnetic coupling has been used to torque transmission of chemical processing pump rotating at under 3,600rpm, magnetic coupling in this study is applied to high-speed turbine-generator system using a working fluid that is refrigerant such as ammonia or R-124a. Results of rotordynamic design analysis are as follows. The first, shaft diameter nearest to outer hub of magnetic coupling has a big effect on the $1^{st}$ critical speed of generator rotor. The second, if the $1^{st}$ critical speeds of turbine rotor and generator rotor have enough to separation margin in comparison to rated speed, the $1^{st}$ critical speed of turbine-magnetic coupling-generator rotor train has enough to separation margin regardless of connection stiffness of magnetic coupling. The analytical FE model is guaranteed by impact test on the prototype and condition monitoring such as measurements of vibration and bearing temperature is also performed.
500W class MTG(Micro turbine generator) operating at 400,000 rpm is under development. From the cycle analysis, it is decided that the self-sustaining speed of MTG is 200,000rpm and the generating speed is 400,000 rpm. Therefore, motor should be designed so that it is able to rotate the rotor up to 200,000rpm and generator should designed so that it is able to generate 500W output at 400,000rpm. First step to design motor/generator is to determine the power and efficiency requirement. Not only the power into the compressor and from the turbine at the operating speed but also the mechanical and electrical losses should be considered in determining the power and efficiency requirement. This study presents the procedure and the results of determining the power and efficiency requirement considering the mechanical and electrical losses depending on the rotating speed which is measured from the experiment.

This paper introduces the high efficiency operation of switched reluctance generator (SRG). The proposed SRG operates under the rated speed. The high efficiency can be obtained by the optimal current shape which can make the total losses minimum. For this purpose, theoretical analysis of the copper and core loss is done. In addition, a modified angle position control (MAPC) method which can get the optimal current shape over wide speed condition is presented. In order to verity the theory, the experimental platform is set up. The feasibility of the theory is verified by the simulation and experimental results. The proposed method is simple, reliable and easy to achieve.
Distributed generation(DG) using microturbine will be adopted widely because of its various usages and merits such as high heat efficiency, environmental-friendliness. Commercialized DG using microtubine that rotates up to $60,000\~100,000[rpm]$ converters mechanical power to electricity by permanent magnet synchronous machine. This paper presents comparative test and simulation results of PMSM as generator. Test was done by diode rectifier and inverter. Parameters used in the simulation are driven from FEM analysis. Under various speed and load conditions, V-I characteristics matches well and it suggests the possibility of high speed PMSM as generator. DG operating at stand alone and grid connection mode will be developed.
An air foil bearing is developed for the high speed generator. The bearing is type of multi-leaf and is stable on 60,000RPM. The vibration level is 12um(p-p) and the highest temperature level is below 100$^{\circ}C$. The dynamic parameter of air foil bearing is acquired by experimental method using exciter. The air foil bearing is also good condition at test of real generator and load condition. The condition of foil is very good after 3,000cycle start-stop test. Therefore the air foil bearing is ideal for high speed, light weight and modem turbo-machinery.
MTG(Micro turbine generator) operating at 400,000 rpm is under development and the impact test rig to measure the dynamic stiffness and damping coefficient of air foil bearing for high speed rotor is presented in this study. The stiffness and damping coefficient of air foil bearing depending on the rotational speed can be measured easily and effectively by using the simple configuration of impact test rig which is composed of air gun, gap sensors and high speed motor. The estimation results of stiffness and dampling coefficient using least square estimation method is presented as well.
