  • High strength preloadable bolt assemblies are commonly adopted in beam-to-column bolted connections. Nowadays, two systems of high strength preloadable grade 10.9 bolt assembly are recommended in Europe for structural applications, namely HR and HV, which are characterized by different failure modes. Recently, experimental tests performed on HR and HV bolt assemblies highlighted that the type of bolt assembly may significantly influence the joint response. Therefore, the accuracy of numerical modelling of bolt assemblies is crucial to simulate effectively the non-linear behaviour of bolted joints with either failure mode 2 or mode 3 of the bolt rows. In light of these considerations, this present paper describes and discusses some modelling criteria for both HR and HV bolts to be implemented in 3D finite element models by finite element analysis and structural designers. The comparison between the calibrated models and experimental results shows the accuracy of the proposed assumptions in simulating all stages of assembly tensile response.

  • The aim of this study was to analyze high temperature deformation stability and properties of duplex stainless steels(DSS) according to annealing temperature. In order to analyze high temperature deformation stability, a number of compression tests were carried out with a stain rate of $10^{-2}s^{-1}{\sim}10s^{-1}$ up to a compression ratio of 50% in a temperature range of $950^{\circ}C-1300^{\circ}C$. The analysis of high temperature deformation stability of DSS was performed based on the Ziegler model. In order to analyze the high temperature properties of DSS, annealing treatments were conducted by isothermal holding for 1 hr at $950^{\circ}C$ to $1300^{\circ}C$ with $50^{\circ}C$ intervals followed by water cooling. The hardness and tensile tests were performed on specimens with different volume fractions of constituent phases, such as austenite, ferrite and sigma. The hardness and tensile strength of 2507 according to the annealing temperature are better than those of 2205. The strain rate sensitivity and Ziegler parameter are higher in 2205 than in 2507 as a whole, which implies that 2205 is better than 2507 in terms of forgeability at high temperature.

  • In this study, in order to observe the behaviors of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) strengthened and steel fiber reinforced concrete specimens for impact and static loads, flexural and punching tests were performed. For the one-way flexural and two-way punching tests, concrete specimens with the dimensions of $50{\times}100{\times}350$ mm and $50{\times}350{\times}350$ mm were fabricated, respectively. The steel fiber reinforced concrete specimens showed much enhanced resistance on two-way punching of static and impact loads. In addition the FRP strengthening system provided the outstanding performance under a punching load. Because of a large tensile strength and toughness of ultra high performance concrete (UHPC), the UHPC specimens retrofitted with FRP showed marginally enhanced strength and energy dissipating capacity.

  • The high strength steel sheets has been widely used as the automobile parts to reduce the weight of a vehicle. The aim of this research is to develop the TRIP aided high strength low carbon steels using reverse transformation process. The 0.15C-4Mn and 0.15C-6.5Mn steel sheets were reversely transformed by slow heating to intercritical temperature region and air cooling to room temperature. The stability of retained austenite depends on the enrichment of carbon and manganese by diffusion during the reverse transformation. The amount of retained austenite formed after reversely transformed at $645^{\circ}C$ for 12 hrs. was about 46vol.% in hot rolled 0.lC-6.5Mn steel. The change in volume fraction of retained austenite with a holding temperature was consistent with the changes in elongation and the strength-ductility combination. The tendency of tensile strength to increase with increasing the holding temperature was due to the decrease of retained austenite after cooling from the higher temperature of $670 ^{\circ}C$. The maximum strength-ductility combination was about 4,250 kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$ㆍ% when the hot rolled 0.lC-6.5Mn steel was reversely transformed at $645^{\circ}C$ for 12 hrs.

  • As a way to improve the safety of automotives and to reduce the weight of vehicles, new forming technologies and advanced materials are in high demand in the automotive industry. However, the advanced strength steel has inferior formability and large springback. In order to overcome such drawbacks, the hot press forming process (HPF) has been being applied for forming of automotive sheet parts. In this work, new equipment was suggested to measure unlimited displacement range compared to previous one which was able to measure only up to 10mm displacement range. The external extensometer connected with grips by wire was applied to equipment so that total strain range was measured up to failure also in high temperature. And the finite element analysis was conducted to characterize the mechanical properties of the HPF steel. Finally, the flow curves were represented by utilizing the Johnson-Cook type equation both in uniform and post-uniform deformation regions.

  • This paper presents a subsequent research work on the roller design of IRB(isolation roller bearing) seismic isolation device presented in Part 1 by focusing on heat treatment. The hardness and friction factor are very important factors of material and after-treatment process selection. Normally, roller bearing consists of roller and retainer. The roller gets high pressure constantly, while the retainer gets tensile and compressive stress. Therefore, sensitive material selection and heat treatment of each part is quite important. In this experimental evaluation, carbon steel, chrome special steel and others are employed and their characteristics after heat treatment are identified. Each material is prepared by refining high frequency heat treatment. The friction factor and static load capacity of manufactured material are experimentally identified and destructive test of material is processed. Optimal material and heat treatment conditions for IRB roller bearing are determined based on experiment results.

  • This numerical study investigated the effects of different reinforcing details in beam-column joints on the blast resistance of the joints. Due to increasing manmade and/or natural high rate accidents such as impacts and blasts, the resistance of critical civil and military infrastructure or buildings should be sufficiently obtained under those high rate catastrophic loads. The beam-column joint in buildings is one of critical parts influencing on the resistance of those buildings under extreme events such as earthquakes, impacts and blasts. Thus, the details of reinforcements in the joints should be well designed for enhancing the resistance of the joints under the events. Parameters numerically investigated in this study include diagonal, flexural, and shear reinforcing steel bars. The failure mechanism of the joints could be controlled by the level of tensile stress of reinforcing steel bars. Among various reinforcing details in the joints, diagonal reinforcement in the joints was found to be most effective for enhancing the resistance under blast loads. In addition, shear reinforcements also produced favourable effects on the blast resistance of beam-column joints.

  • Material degradation should be considered to assess integrity and residual life of high temperature equipments. However, the property data reflecting degradation are not sufficient for practical use. In this study measuring properties for 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V forging steel generally used for turbine rotor was carried out. Degradation was simulated by isothermal ageing. heat treatment and variation of microstructure was observed. Mechanical properties such as tensile strength, impact energy, hardness and fracture toughness were measured. Assuming a semi-elliptical surface crack at the bore hole in a turbine rotor, material risk was estimated by using the aged material property data obtained in this study. Safety margin was decreased and life of the rotor was exhausted. This procedure can be used in assessing the residual life of a turbine rotor due to material degradation.

  • Although handicapped by the inability to bridge the size gap between small laboratory sample and large engineering component, the V charpy test sample method does possess certain advantages, such as each of preparation, simplicity of test method, speed, low cost in test machinery, and low cost per test. On the other hand, the COD test method does posses advantages, which reduce the size gap between the laboratory sample and actual engineering component. Consequently, the correlation between V charpy absorbed energy and the critical COD value is required for estimating critical COD value from the simple V charpy test results. In this paper, the high tensile strength steel AH36 plate specimens having a single edge cracked notch were investigated to find out the correlation between V charpy absorbed energy and critical COD value in the welded parts under such various welding methods as shielded metal arc welding, the submerged arc welding and the electro gas welding by means of V charpy impact test and static 3-point bending test. Main results obtained are as follow ; 1. The relationships between V charpy absorbed energy Wc' and critical COD value ($\delta_c$)show; $\delta_c$=0.0065 Wc'+0.1906. 2. Ductile- brittle transition behaviours can be estimated by means of fracture appearance and general yielding behaviours. 3. The V charpy absorbed energy of SMAW is higher than that of SAW, EGW and similar relationships are obtained in the COD tests.
