  • The hybrid heat pump system of the air to air and / or air to water was composed and its COP was analyzed with the ambient temperature on the opened and closed loop system respectively. The results be indicated by the equation(7) that the COP(Coefficient of Performance) of air-source(air to air and / or air-water) heat pump is effected with the ambient air temperature and AVACTHE.(Automatic Variable Area Capillary Type Heat Exchanger) 2. The COP of air-to-water heat pump without AVACTHE decreased in accordance with the ambient temperature decrease, however in case of the heat pump with AVACTHE the COP was maintained at 2.8∼3.0 level when the ambient temperature decrease from -$5^{\circ}C$ to $-11^{\circ}C$. 3. The COP of the air-to-water heat pump operated on the open loop was higher 40∼58% than that of the heat pump operated on the close loop. 4. The lower ambient temperature air effect on the COP of the air-to-air heat pump operated on the semi closed loop could be controlled using the AVACTHE, and at the high ambient air temperature the COP increased using the Bypass circuit.

  • In order to see physical characteristics of water masses and tidal currents in Gamak Bay, some field surveys have been conducted using ADCP, Aanderaa current meter and CTD from May 17 to June 3, 2004. The northwest of the bay appeared to have a high temperature and a high salinity so that it coincided with the previous results. The distribution of temperature and salinity seemed to reflect the characteristics of water masses. At the south mouth of the bay, a northwestward-southeastward flow was dominant at the surface layer while a northeastward-southwestward flow was dominant at the bottom layer.

  • The characteristics of auto-ignition and combustion process of a single droplet of emulsified fuel suspended in a high-temperature air chamber have been investigated experimentally with various droplet sizes, surrounding temperatures, and water contents. The used fuels was n-Decane and it was emulsified with varied water contents whose maximum is 30%. The high-speed camera has been adopted to measure the ignition delay and flame life time. It was also applied to observe micro-explosion behaviors. The increase of droplet size and chamber temperature cause the decrease of the ignition delay time and flame life-time. As the water contents increases, the ignition delay time increases and the micro-explosion behaviors are strengthened. The starting timings of micro-explosion and fuel puffing are compared for different droplet sizes and the amount of water contents.

  • The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of quartz powder (Qp), quartz sand (Qs), and different water curing temperature on mechanical properties including 7, 14, 28-day compressive strength and 28-day splitting tensile strength of Ultra High Performance Concrete and also finding the correlation between these variables on mechanical properties of UHPC. The response surface methodology was monitored to show the influences of variables and their interactions on mechanical properties of UHPC, then, mathematical models in terms of coded variables were established by ANOVA. The offered models are valid for the variables between: quartz powder 0 to 20% of cement substitution by cement weight, quartz sand 0 to 50% of aggregate substitution by crushed limestone weight, and water curing temperature 25 to $95^{\circ}C$.

  • The diffusion characteristics of the high temperature and salinity water discharged in Chinhae Bay under BMP(Barge-Mounted Plants) desalination processes were simulated to access environmental impact. The 3-D baroclinic flow model is formulated by integrating the basic equations with respect to each control volume and by transforming them into a finite difference form using the space-staggered grid system. With a 3-D baroclinic flow model, the tide-induced and density-induced current was computed and confirmed by comparing with observed data. From the results of numerical experiment, it is expected that the maximum diffusion lengths of the high temperature and salinity which increase $0.6^{circ}C$ and 0.2 after discharging are 1 km and 3.5km, respectively. It may be expected that the discharge has an effect on surrounding area of discharge, but not an effect on whole area of Chinhae Bay.

  • Water gas shift reactor in fuel processing is an important part that converts carbon monoxide into hydrogen. Fuel processing system for PEMFC usually has two stages of WGS reactors, which are high temperature and low temperature shifter. In this study we prepared noble metal catalysts and compared their performances with that of a commercial iron chromium oxide catalyst. Noble metal catalysts and the commercial catalyst showed quite different temperature dependence of carbon monoxide conversion. The conversion of carbon monoxide at the commercial catalyst was very low at medium temperature(${\sim}300^{\circ}C$) and increased rapidly as temperature increased while the conversion at noble metal catalysts was high in the medium temperature range and decreased as temperature increased, which is thermodynamically expected. Their characteristics agreed well with the literature published, and we are accomplishing further study for improvement of the noble metal catalysts.

  • El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ is the largest fluctuation in the climate system, and it can lead to effects influencing humans all over the world. An El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ occurs when sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean become substantially higher than average. We investigated the change in sea surface temperature in the Pacific Ocean during the El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ period of 2015 and 2016 using the advanced very-high-resolution radiometer (AVHRR) of NOAA Satellites. We calculated anomalies of the Pacific equatorial sea surface temperature for the normal period of 1981-2010 to identify the variation of the 2015 El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ and warm water area. Generally, the warm water in the western tropical Pacific Ocean shifts eastward along the equator toward the coast of South America during an El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ period. However, we identified an additional warm water region in the $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ 1+2 and Peru coastal area. This indicates that there are other factors that increase the sea surface temperature. In the future, we will study the heat coming from the bottom of the sea to understand the origin of the heat transport of the Pacific Ocean.

  • Fusion Bonded Epoxy(FBE) systems have been widely used to protect pipelines for over 30 years. Numerous attempts have so far been made to improve the properties of FBE coatings such as chemical resistance, adhesion, water resistance, cathodic disbondment resistance, impact resistance, and flexibility to protect pipelines at a wet and a high temperature condition. But these attempts have not been successful in reducing some weakness, for instance, in pipeline operating at high temperature due to poor hot water resistance and cathodic protection. The purpose here is to build a basis for getting better corrosion resistance of FBE systems. Cresol-novolac epoxy coating systems were studied compared to bisphenol A type epoxy systems. After the immersion of the film in water at a high temperature for a long period, good adhesion to metal substrate and excellent cathodic disbond resistance were observed in the cresol-novolac epoxy resin systems. It is well known that the adhesion of organic coatings to metal substrate might be decreased due to the disruption of a chemical bond across the film and metal interface induced by water molecules. A high crosslinking density might decrease water permeability and improve cathodic disbonding protection in the coatings. Other factors are studied to understand anti-corrosion mechanism of Cresol-novolac epoxy coatings. In addition, the water absorption rate and the effect of cure temperature on the adhesion and cathodic disbonding resistance ofthe films were studied in different epoxy coatings and the effect of substrate was evaluated. The results of field application are proved that the Cresol-novolac epoxy coating system developed recently is one of the most suitable coatings for protection of pipelines.

  • Two feeding trials were conducted to investigate the optimum feeding rates in juvenile olive founder Paralichthys olivaceus fed practical expanded pellet(EP) containing 58.1% crude protein, 10.7% crude lipid, and 10.8% ash at low and high water temperatures. In the first experiment, triplicate groups of 15 fish with average weight of 7.7 g were fed at one of seven feeding rates(0, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.25, or 2.5% of body weight/day or to satiation) for 4 weeks at low water temperature. In the second experiment, quadruplicate groups of 20 fish with average weight of 5.5 g were fed at one of eight feeding rates(0, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.25, 4.5, or 4.75% of body weight/day or to satiation) for 4 weeks at high water temperature. Based on growth performance, we estimated that the optimum feeding rates for juvenile olive flounder were 1.97-2.51% and 4.82-6.36% of body weight/day at low and high water temperatures, respectively.

  • This work involves quantitatively investigating the correlation between reductions in strength and variations in pore structure under high temperature that can be utilized as estimation for predicting the inner temperature of member damaged by fire. The experimental results were remarkedly affected by micro-filling effect of silica fume and the different water-binder ratios. The increase of the exposure temperature caused the increase of porosity, which resulted from the reason that evaporable water in gel pore or capillary pores as well as chemically bound water was eliminated from hardened cement paste due to the dehydration of C-S-H and $Ca(OH)_2$. Thermal shrinkage of hardened cement paste gives rise to micro-crack, which cause the increase of porosity. Based on the experimental result that the increase of porosity is in charge of exposure temperature, how porosity is distributed can predict temperature-time history and assess the performance of concrete damaged by fire.
