Weldlines are generated during the injection molding process when two or more melt flows are brought into contact. At the welded contact region, a 'V'-shaped notch is formed on the surface of the molded part. This 'V'-notch deteriorates not only surface appearance but also mechanical strength of the molded part. To eliminate or reduce weldlines so as to improve the weldline strength, the mold temperature at the corresponding weld locations should be maintained higher than the glass transition temperature of the resin material. The present study implements high-frequency induction heating in order to rapidly raise mold surface temperature without a significant increase in cycle time. This induction heating enables to local mold heating so as to eliminate or reduce weldlines in an injection-molded plastic part. The effect of induction heating conditions on the weldline strength and surface appearance of an injection-molded part is investigated.
The short-term AC breakdown strength of laminated polypropylene insulating Paper (PPLP) has been studied for cold dielectric of high temperature superconductivity power cables. The design and operating conditions of the electrode system for studying of short-term breakdown strength of one-layer and multi-layer PPLP samples are discussed in liquid nitrogen(LN2) state. The influence of various operating factors (geometry and dimension of electrodes, speed of tested voltage, thickness of test sample) on the value of short-term AC breakdown strength at cryogenic temperature has been established.

This study focuses on the bond performance of ribbed type of GFRP rebar to concrete at high temperature and discusses the results of pullout test. Pullout tests of ribbed type of GFRP rebars embedded in concrete were conducted to obtain an accurate bond stress-slip curves and also to closely observe the state of the surface of pulled-out rebars at failure. The effect of temperature on the bond strength is mainly discussed in this paper. Relatively high bond strength was seen in the control specimen which is exposed to room temperature. But, as the internal temperature increases, the bond strength decreases.
In response to growing environmental and collision-safety concerns, the automotive industry has gradually used high-strength and ultla-high-strength steels to reduce the weight of automobiles. In order to overcome inherent process disadvantages of these materials such as poor formability and high springback at room temperature, hot forming has recently been developed and adopted to produce some important structural parts in automobiles. This method enables manufacturing of components with complex geometric shapes with minimal springback. In addition, a quenching process may enhance the material strength by more than two times. This paper investigates mechanical and forming characteristics of high-strength boron-alloyed steel with hot forming, in terms of hardness, microstructure, residual stress, and springback. In order to compare with experimental results, a finite element analysis of hot forming process coupled with phase transformation and heat transfer was carried out using DEFORM-3D V6.1 and also, to predict high temperature mechanical properties and flow curves for different phases, a material properties modeler, JMatPro was used.

A compact heat exchanger is one of critical components in a very high temperature gas-cooled reactor (VHTR). Alloy 617 (Ni-Cr-Co-Mo) is considered as one of leading candidates for this application due to its excellent thermal stability and strengths in anticipated operating conditions. On the basis of current ASME code requirements, sixty sheets of this alloy are prepared for diffusion welding, which is the key technology to have a reliable compact heat exchanger. Optical microscopic analysis show that there are no cracks, incomplete bond, and porosity at/near the interface of diffusion weldment, but Cr-rich carbides and Al-rich oxides are identified through high resolution electron microscopic analysis. In high-temperature tensile testing, superior yield strengths of the diffusion weldment compared to the code requirement are obtained up to 1223 K ($950^{\circ}C$). However, both tensile strength and ductility drop rapidly at higher temperature due to the insufficient grain boundary migration across the interface of diffusion weldment. Best fit curves for minimum yield strength and average tensile strength are drawn from the experimental tensile results of this study.

In this paper, we propose an independent cooling control (ICC) scheme for high strength and atmosphere corrosion resisting steel to obtain the desired temperature and properties along the longitudinal direction of the steel in the run-out table (ROT) process. A temperature model of the independent process is developed to divide the ROT into front and back sections. The control concept uses field data, problem analysis, and a time-temperature transformation diagram. The effectiveness of the proposed control is verified using simulation results under a temperature disturbance by the transformation in the middle of the ROT. The results of a hot strip mill field test show that the temperature control performance is significantly improved by the proposed control scheme.
This paper reports the effects of curing temperature and aging on the strength and the modulus of elasticity. In oder to determine the strength and the modulus of elasticity with curing temperature and aging, experimental and analytical methods are adopted. The tests of 480 cylinders are carried out for type I, V and V with 15 percent replacement of fly ash cement concretes, which are cured at isothermal conditions of 10, 23, 35 and 5$0^{\circ}C$. and the concrete cylinders are tested at the ages of 1, 3, 7 and 28 days. According to the experimental results, the concrete subjected to high temperature at early ages attaines higher early-age compressive and splitting tensile strength but eventually attaines lower later-age compressive and splitting tensile strength. Even if modulus of elasticity has the same tendency, the variation of modulus of elasticity with curing temperature is smaller than that of compressive strength. Based on these experimental results, the relationships among compressive strength, modulus of elasticity and splitting tensile strength are proposed considering the effects of curing temperature, aging and cement type.
The influence of material composition such as aggregate types, addition of supplementary cementitious materials as well as exposed temperature levels have significant impacts on concrete residual mechanical strength properties when exposed to elevated temperature. This study is based on data obtained from literature for fly ash blended concrete produced with natural and recycled concrete aggregates to efficiently develop prediction models for estimating its residual compressive strength after exposure to high temperatures. To achieve this, an extensive database that contains different mix proportions of fly ash blended concrete was gathered from published articles. The specific design variables considered were percentage replacement level of Recycled Concrete Aggregate (RCA) in the mix, fly ash content (FA), Water to Binder Ratio (W/B), and exposed Temperature level. Thereafter, a simplified mathematical equation for the prediction of concrete's residual compressive strength using Gene Expression Programming (GEP) was developed. The relative importance of each variable on the model outputs was also determined through global sensitivity analysis. The GEP model performance was validated using different statistical fitness formulas including R2, MSE, RMSE, RAE, and MAE in which high R2 values above 0.9 are obtained in both the training and validation phase. The low measured errors (e.g., mean square error and mean absolute error are in the range of 0.0160 - 0.0327 and 0.0912 - 0.1281 MPa, respectively) in the developed model also indicate high efficiency and accuracy of the model in predicting the residual compressive strength of fly ash blended concrete exposed to elevated temperatures.

Austenitic stainless steel is used as high temperature components such as gas turbine blade and disk because of its good thermal resistance. In the present investigation, tensile and low cycle fatigue(LCF) behavior of stainless steel for turbine disks was studied at wide temperature range $20^{\circ}C\;{\sim}\;750^{\circ}C$. In the tensile tests, it was shown that elastic modulus, yield strength, ultimate tensile strength decreased when temperature increased. The effect on fatigue failure of the parameters such as plastic strain amplitude, stress amplitude and plastic strain energy density was also investigated. Coffin-Manson and Morrow models were used to adjust experimental data and predict the fatigue life behavior at different mean strain values during cyclic loading of high temperature components.
The effect of high-temperature spinning and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) additive on poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) hollow fiber membranes was investigated using differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction measurement, and scanning electron microscopy, together with the corresponding microfiltration performances such as water flux, rejection rate, and elongational strength. Using high-temperature spinning, porous hollow fiber membranes with particulate morphology were prepared through PVDF crystallization. The particulate structure of the membranes was further modified by the addition of miscible PVP with PVDF. Due to these effects, the rejection rate and strength of the fibers were increased at the expense of reduced water flux and mean pore size, which indicates that high-temperature spinning and PVP addition are vary effective to control the morphology of PVDF hollow fiber membranes for microfiltration.
