A PHE (Process Heat Exchanger) is a key component required to transfer heat energy of $950^{\circ}C$ generated in a VHTR (Very High Temperature Reactor) to the chemical reaction that yields a large quantity of hydrogen. A small-scale PHE prototype made of Hastelloy-X is being tested in a small-scale gas loop at Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. In this study, as a part of the evaluation on the high-temperature structural integrity of the small-scale PHE prototype, we carried out macroscopic high-temperature structural analysis of the small-scale PHE prototype under the gas loop test conditions considering the pipeline stiffness.
Elastic-plastic fracture toughness $J_{lc}$ can be used as an effective design criterion in elastic plastic fracture mechanics. Most of these systems are$J_{lc}$$J_{lc}$ value at high temperature must be determined for use of integrity evaluation and designing of such systems. Elastic-plastic fracture toughness $J_{lc}$ tests were performed on SA516/70 carbon steel plate and test results were analyzed according to ASTM E 813-87, ASTM E 813-89 and ASTM E 1152-87.safety and integrity are required for reactor pressure vessels because, they are operated in high temperature. There are single specimen method, which used as evaluation of safety and integrity for reactor pressure vessels. In this study, elastic-plastic fracture toughness($J_{lc}$) and J-$\Delta$a of SA 516/70 steel used as reactor pressure vessel steel are measured and evaluated at room temperature, 150$^{\circ}C $, 250$^{\circ}C $ and 370$^{\circ}C $ according to unloading compliance method.
Recently various pressure vessels like an atomic reactor and plant facilities become more larger and are needed to bear in both very high temperature and pressure condition. And in making such a high pressure vessels the amount of annual usage of 2 $\frac {1}{4}$ Cr-1Mo steels which are predominant to resist high temperature high pressure and corrosive circumstances are increasing. But despite of this advantage of 2 $\frac {1}{4}$Cr-1Mo steel. when PWHT(post welding heat treatment) is carried out lots of reheating cracks are occur. In this reason it is strongly needed to study and examine the mechanical behavior of welded joints through welding to PWHT process. So in this study welded nozzle of pressure vessel where reheat cracks are frequently occur are selected for analysis the crack-occurrence mechanism.
Numerical simulations of high temperature catalytic combustion have been performed for the application to a gas turbine combustor. Dependences of inlet temperature and pressure on the distributions of temperature and species concentrations were investigated using plug flow model with detailed homogeneous and heterogeneous chemistries of methane-air mixtures. Honeycomb typecombustor deposited with Pt catalyst of 100mm in length and 26mm in diameter is used. The results show that rapid increase of temperature profile occurs earlier with the increase of inlet temperature and the decrease of inlet pressure. The condition which catalytic combustion is stabilized exists at certain range of inlet temperature and pressure. The state of catalytic combustion is also confirmed by the distributions of species concentration.
TiB2 was simultaneously synthesized and densified with concurrent self-propagating high-temperature synthesis and direct contact-heating by electrcial power input and pressure. Density of TiB2 synthesized by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis and consolidated simultaneously by direct contact-heating and pressure was maximum 80% of the theoretical density (4.52g/㎤). Temperature profile was analyzed by solving heat balance equation with numerical method (FTCS method). The temperature of the sample was sufficiently raised to that temperature sufficient to be densified. It was ascertained that the density of the SHS synthesized TiB2 is exponentially proportinal to the input thermal energy per mass.
In this study, two Fe-30Mn-0.2C-(1.5Al) high-manganese steels with different surface conditions were hydrogen-charged under high temperature and pressure; then, tensile testing was performed at room temperature in air. The yield strength of the 30Mn-0.2C specimen increased with decreasing surface roughness(achieved via polishing), but that of the 30Mn-0.2C-1.5Al specimen was hardly affected by the surface conditions. On the other hand, the tendency of hydrogen embrittlement of the two high-manganese steels was not sensitive to hydrogen charging or surface conditions from the standpoints of elongation and fracture behavior. Based on the EBSD analysis results, the small decrease in elongation of the charged specimens for the Fe-30Mn-0.2C-(1.5Al) high-manganese steels was attributed to the enhanced dislocation pile-up around grain boundaries, caused by hydrogen.
To study on the behavior of the early stage of the spark kernel at constant pressure condition, the expressions of the thermal properties such as compressibility factor, thermal conductivity, and electrical conductivity of the high temperature air were newly suggested. The newly suggested simple expressions of the thermal properties of the high temperature air showed good results. Under the assumption of constant pressure, one dimensional numerical analysis was executed by varying surrounding conditions and discharging current of electrical spark. Numerical results show tat high surrounding pressure suppresses the growth of the spark kernel but supplies much electrical energy into the air, on the other hand high surrounding temperature increases the growth of the spark kernel but supplies less electrical energy. Also the result shows that , in case of direct current discharge, deposited electrical energy is able to be expressed in linear function of time approximately.
High temperature micro pressure sensors were fabricated by polycrystalline (poly) 3C-SiC piezoresistors formed by oxidized SOI substrates with APCVD. These have been designed by bulk micromachining below $1{\times}1mm^2$ diaphragm and Si membrane $20{\mu}m$ thick. The pressure sensitivity of fabricated pressure sensor was 0.1 mV/Vbar. The non-linearity of sensor was ${\pm}0.44%$ FS and the hysteresis was 0.61% FS.TCS of pressure sensor was -1867 ppm/$^{\circ}C$, its TCR was -792 ppm/$^{\circ}C$, and TCGF to 5 bar was -1042 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ from 25 to $400^{\circ}C$.
In the present paper a 3D thermo-hygro-mechanical model for concrete is used to study explosive spalling of concrete cover at high temperature. For a given boundary conditions the distribution of moisture, pore pressure, temperature, stresses and strains are calculated by employing a three-dimensional transient finite element analysis. The used thermo-hygro-mechanical model accounts for the interaction between hygral and thermal properties of concrete. Moreover, these properties are coupled with the mechanical properties of concrete, i.e., it is assumed that the mechanical properties (damage) have an effect on distribution of moisture (pore pressure) and temperature. Stresses in concrete are calculated by employing temperature dependent microplane model. To study explosive spalling of concrete cover, a 3D finite element analysis of a concrete slab, which was locally exposed to high temperature, is performed. It is shown that relatively high pore pressure in concrete can cause explosive spalling. The numerical results indicate that the governing parameter that controls spalling is permeability of concrete. It is also shown that possible buckling of a concrete layer in the spalling zone increases the risk for explosive spalling.
Better understanding the mechanism of black ice occurrence on the road in winter is necessary to reduce the socio-economic damage it causes. In this study, intensive observations of road weather elements and surface information under the influence of synoptic high-pressure patterns (22nd December, 2020 and 29th January, and 25th February, 2021) were carried out using a mobile observation vehicle. We found that temperature and road surface temperature change is significantly influenced by observation time, altitude and structure of the road, surrounding terrain, and traffic volume, especially in tunnels and bridges. In addition, even if the spatial distribution of temperature and road surface temperature for the entire observation route is similar, there is a difference between air and road surface temperatures due to the influence of current weather conditions. The observed road temperature, air temperature and air pressure in Nongong Bridge were significantly different to other fixed road weather observation points.
