The opening of Gyeongbu high-speed railway project phase II (between Daegu and Busan) (기획특집: 경부고속철도 2단계사업 (대구~부산)개통)

  • Gyeongbu high-speed railway project which comprises the construction of the new line with 417.5km between Seoul and Busan is one of the biggest national projects with approx. 20-trillion-won project cost. The construction was started in June 1992 and afterward phase I (between Seoul and Daegu) was opened in April 2004 and phase II (between Daegu and Busan, 169.5km) is scheduled for opening in the end of October 2010. It is assured that the opening of the entire sections of Gyeongbu high-speed railway will significantly increase productivity and efficiency by improving the land utilization with the promotion of personal and material exchanges induced by the reduction of travel time between regions. Especially, Gyeongbu high-speed railway will be the opportunity to boost speed-up of Korea railway.

Characteristics of Track and Train Behaviors on High-Speed Railway Bridge/Earthwork Transiton Zone (고속철도 교량/토공 접속부에서의 궤도 및 차량 거동 특성)

  • It is very important to pay careful attention to construction of bridge/earthwork transition zone for high-speed railway. The transition zone of the railway is the section which roadbed stiffness is suddenly varied. Differences in stiffness have dynamic effects and these increase the forces in the track and the extent of deformation. An abrupt change of stiffness across two adjacent track portions cause irregular settlement of roadbed, track irregularity, lack of girder bending moment and reduction of lateral resistance. Especially on high-speed railway, track irregularity of transition zone cause sincere effect to track stability and train safety. And so continuous maintenance is needed. To verify this effect and to improve transiton zone capacity, In situ test, track irregularity and train acceleration test were performed on high-speed railway bridge/earthwork Transiton Zone.

  • In this paper, we introduce the software and hardware of the measurement system for on-line testing and evaluation of high speed railway. The test items focus on the verification of the performance and acquirement of the technical data of the high speed railway system. The software controls the hardware of the measurement system, perform the analysis and calculation of measurement data and acts as interface between users and the system hardware. For this purpose, three programs a measuring program, a monitoring program and post-processing program are developed. The detailed test scenario is in the process of development to closely follow the process of development and design of the system.

  • This paper presents the current and speed controller design procedure and their performance for the IPMSM based next generation high speed railway traction system. The next generation high speed railway system is a power distributed type and uses vector control method for a motor speed control. Since the speed and current controller gains of the vector control system directly affects to the transient characteristics and speed control capability, the systematic design of the controllers are required. In this paper the controllers are designed using the IPMSM based next generation high speed railway system parameters. Simulation programs based on Matlab/Simulink is developed. Finally the controller characteristics are analyzed by the simulation results.

  • Planning and construction of railway for high speed trains up to 400 km/h are recently driven in Korea. High speed train is one of the environment-friendly fastest mass transportation means but its noise generated by rolling, traction and aerodynamic mechanism can cause public complaints of residents nearby railways. To cost-effectively prevent the troublesome noise in a railway planning stage, the rational railway noise prediction method considering the characteristics of trains as well as railway structures should be required but it is difficult to find an authentic method for Korean high speed trains such as KTX and KTX-II. In this study, recent railway noise prediction methods developed by EU countries are introduced and discussed for consulting before setting the framework of our own railway noise prediction model emitted by Korean high speed trains over 250 km/h. Especially, the new Schall 03 model (2006) developed by Germany and IMAGINE model (2007) suggested by an EU framework research project are intensively reviewed. In addition, research items required for the development of our own model are suggested.

  • The importance of maintenance of rail surface defects is increasing more according to the KTX operation. That is because during high speed operation of rolling stock, rail surface defects may cause shortened fatigue life of rail, acceleration of track degradation and reduced ride comfort. The paper was intended to study the establishment of rail grinding criteria of high-speed railway lines considering the KTX operation circumstances. For this, the specimens of UIC 60 rail on Kyeong-Bu high-speed operation lines were collected and they were analyzed for metallographic structure and tested for the hardness. By analyzing the test results to the factors affecting the RCF causing the defects of rail surface, the study suggested the rail grinding criteria of the domestic high speed railway lines. As the factors affecting RCF, passing tonnage, running speed and track condition are considered.

  • Dynamic response is an important consideration because of the possibility of resonance according to KTX running over a railway bridges. When KTX runs over the bridge at critical speed, dynamic response is very depending on damping ratio. Current damping ratio for design of high-speed railway bridges adopted EUROCODE without verification of domestic railway bridges. The purpose of this study is to obtain the coherent damping ratio of high-speed railway bridges. Free vibration signal after KTX runs over a high-speed railway bridge was applied. The representative value from distribution of damping ratio was considered.

  • In oder to develope a train system for parcel service of high speed railway, which had been proposed for the operation of a high speed train, its conceptual design was build. Through this system, we are able to expect the fulfillment of customer needs for high speed rail market segments, and enhancement for cost-effective rail network operation of the mixed traffic on infrastructure cost-reduction in national logistics.

  • In this Paper, it has a proposal of the RFID(RFID : Radio Frequency Identification) system for high-speed recognition between the tag attached a mobile object moving high-speed and the static reader. It used 13.56MHz frequency at ISM band, and designed a reader in order to recognize a mobile object moving high-speed. It will be expected that RFID system enables a smooth railway signal control applying in railway system through the cyclic loop antenna.
