Purpose: Evaluation of alveolar bone is important in the diagnosis of dental diseases. The periodontal ligament space is difficult to clearly depict in cone-beam computed tomography images because the reconstruction filter conditions during image processing cause image blurring, resulting in decreased spatial resolution. We examined different reconstruction filters to assess their ability to improve spatial resolution and allow for a clearer visualization of the periodontal ligament space. Materials and Methods: Cone-beam computed tomography projections of 2 skull phantoms were reconstructed using 6 reconstruction conditions and then compared using the Thurstone paired comparison method. Physical evaluations, including the modulation transfer function and the Wiener spectrum, as well as an assessment of space visibility, were undertaken using experimental phantoms. Results: Image reconstruction using a modified Shepp-Logan filter resulted in better sensory, physical, and quantitative evaluations. The reconstruction conditions substantially improved the spatial resolution and visualization of the periodontal ligament space. The difference in sensitivity was obtained by altering the reconstruction filter. Conclusion: Modifying the characteristics of a reconstruction filter can generate significant improvement in assessments of the periodontal ligament space. A high-frequency enhancement filter improves the visualization of thin structures and will be useful when accurate assessment of the periodontal ligament space is necessary.
Objective: The 3-dimensional reconstruction method with resolution recovery modeling has advantages of high spatial resolution and contrast because of its precise modeling of spatial blurring according to the distance from detector plane. The aim of this study was to evaluate one of the resolution recovery reconstruction methods (Astonish, Philips Medical), compare it to other iterative reconstructions, and verify its clinical usefulness. Materials and Methods: NEMA IEC PET body phantom and Flanges Jaszczak ECT phantom (Data Spectrum Corp., USA) studies were performed using Skylight SPECT (Philips) system under four different conditions; short or long (2 times of short) radius, and half or full (40 kcts/frame) acquisition counts. Astonish reconstruction method was compared with two other iterative reconstructions; MLEM and 3D-OSEM which vendor supplied. For quantitative analysis, the contrast ratios obtained from IEC phantom test were compared. Reconstruction parameters were determined by optimization study using graph of contrast ratio versus background variability. The qualitative comparison was performed with Jaszczak ECT phantom and human myocardial data. Results: The overall contrast ratio was higher with Astonish than the others. For the largest hot sphere of 37 mm diameter, Astonish showed about 27.1% and 17.4% higher contrast ratio than MLEM and 3D-OSEM, in short radius study. For long radius, Astonish showed about 40.5% and 32.6% higher contrast ratio than MLEM and 3D-OSEM. The effect of acquired counts was insignificant. In the qualitative studies with Jaszczak phantom and human myocardial data, Astonish showed the best image quality. Conclusion: In this study, we have found out that Astonish can provide more reliable clinical results by better image quality compared to other iterative reconstruction methods. Although further clinical studies are required, Astonish would be used in clinics with confidence for enhancement of images.
Consistent observation with high temporal and spatial resolution is required for an efficient monitoring of coastal environments. Remote monitoring system installed on the ground is capable of simultaneous observation of wide coastal area and consistent observation with high frequency, which a small number of in-situ measurements cannot manage. This paper studies two typical ground based coastal monitoring system, marine radar and camera system. Marine radar can produce time series of frequency spectrum by integrating wave number spectrum calculated from spatial and temporal variation of waves in the radar image. The time averaged radar images of waves can analyze wave breaking zone, rip currents and location of littoral bars. Camera system can observe temporal variation of foam generation originated from coastal contamination as well as shoreline changes. By extracting the part of foams from rectified images, quantitative analysis of temporal foam variation can be done. By using the two above systems of different characteristics, synergetic benefit can be achieved.
The conventional satellite image fusion methods usually add the same amount of higher frequency components extracted from the panchromatic image to all the multispectral images. However, it is noted that each of multispectral images has different amount of overlap with the panchromatic image in terms of its spectrum, and also has different intensities. Thus giving the same amount of high frequency contents to all the spectral bands does not match with this observation, which causes color distortion in the fused image. In this paper, we propose a new wavelet-domain satellite image fusion algorithm that can compensate for these differences in intensity and spectrum overlap. For the compensation of intensity differences, we first estimate the high resolution multispectral images from P, considering the relative intensity ratios. For the compensation of the amount of spectral overlap, their wavelet coefficients are appended to the conventional wavelet-domain method where the coefficients for the addition is determined by the amount of spectrum overlap. Experiments are conducted for the IKONOS satellite images whose spectrums are well known, and the results show that the proposed algorithm gives higher PSNR and correlation coefficients compared to the conventional methods.

We present the results of high-resolution (R ≥ 30,000) optical and near-infrared spectroscopic monitoring observations of a FU Orionis-type object, 2MASS J06593158-0405277. We have monitored 2MASS J06593158-0405277 with the Bohyunsan Optical Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) and the Immersion GRating INfrared Spectrograph (IGRINS) since December 2014. Various features produced by wind, disk, and outflow/jet were detected. The wind features varied over time and disappeared about a year after the outburst occurred. The double-peaked line profiles were detected in the optical and near-infrared, and the line widths decrease with increasing wavelength. The disk features in the optical spectra are fit well with G2-type or G5-type stellar spectra convolved with a disk rotational profile of about 45 km s-1, which corresponds to a disk radius of about 71 R⊙for a central mass of 0.75 M⊙. Disk features in near-infrared spectra are fit well with a K1-type stellar spectrum convolved with a disk rotational profile of about 35 km s-1, which corresponds to a disk radius of about 117 R⊙ for a central mass of 0.75 M⊙. We also detected [S II] and H2 emission lines, which are rarely found in FUors but are usually found in the earlier stage of young stellar objects. Therefore, we suggest that 2MASS J06593158-0405277 is in the relatively earlier part of Class II stage.
In the present work, peak relative efficiency for the energy was obtained and response function was worked out. This study was carried out using the high resolution high efficiency HPGe detector(diameter 78.7 mm, length 86.5 mm) and NaI(Tl) detector for anti-compton. The anti-coincidence of the signals from the two detectors could be used to lessen the Compton effect signal; thus, the $\gamma$-ray energy resolution could be improved. The $\gamma$-ray spectrum was measured at $55^{\circ}$ to the direction of the incident proton beam. Reaction spectrum was obtained from the $^{23}Na$(p, $\gamma$)$^{24}Mg$ reaction at $E_p$ = 1424 keV and $^{27}Al$(p, $\gamma$)$^{28}Si$ reaction at $E_p$ = 992 keV. To accelerate the incident proton which creates the (p, $\gamma$) capture reaction, the 3 MeV Pelletron accelerator at the Tokyo Institute of Technology was used. Response function was worked out by a noble technique. We worked out a response function from 1.2 to 9.4 MeV at intervals of 0.75 MeV.
We have prepared $MnFe_2O_4$ nanoparticles with polyol method. The crystallographic and magnetic properties were measured by using X-ray diffraction(XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM) and $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy. The high resolution transmission electron microscope(HRTEM) shows uniform nanoparticle-sizes with $6{\sim}8$ nm. The crystal structure is found to be single-phase cubic spinel with space group of Fd3m. The lattice constant of $MnFe_2O_4$ nanparticles is determined to be $8.418{\pm}0.001{\AA}$. $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectrum of $MnFe_2O_4$ nanparticles at room temperature(RT) shows a superparamagnetic behavior. In VSM analysis, the diagnosis of the superparamagnetic behavior is also shown in hysteresis loop at RT. $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectrum at 4.2K shows that the well developed two sextets are with different hyperfine field $H_{hfA}=498$(A-site) and $H_{hfB}=521$(B-site) kOe.

Real-time target signal processing techniques for FMCW LiDAR are described in this paper. FMCW LiDAR is gaining attention as the next-generation LiDAR for self-driving cars because of its detection robustness even in adverse environmental conditions such as rain, snow and fog etc. in addition to its long range measurement capability. The hardware architecture which is required for high-speed data acquisition, data transfer, and parallel signal processing for frequency-domain signal processing is described in this article. Fourier transformation of the acquired time-domain signal is implemented on FPGA in real time. The paper also details the C-FAR algorithm for ensuring robust target detection from the transformed target spectrum. This paper elaborates on enhancing frequency measurement resolution from the target spectrum and converting them into range and velocity data. The 3D image was generated and displayed using the 2D scanner position and target distance data. Real-time target signal processing and high-resolution image acquisition capability of FMCW LiDAR by using the proposed parallel signal processing algorithms based on FPGA architecture are verified in this paper.

Millimeter waves can be used for high resolution ranging and imaging. As the necessity of high-speed multimedia communication increases, millimeter wave systems are being developed since they are useful for wide band communication considering the shortage of available spectrum bands. However, it is necessary to analyze the characteristics of millimeter propagation in the atmosphere to assess the performance of millimeter wave systems. MCF and intensity fluctuations describe atmospheric effects on millimeter wave propagation. Using the quasi-optical method, a method is investigated to obtain MCF from the intensity distribution of focal plane. Also, a practical method is proposed to compute MCF from the flux measurement in the antenna focal plane.
AGN are known for irregular variability on all time scales, down to intra-day variability with relative variations of a few percent within minutes to hours. In the shortest time scale of AGN activity, unexplored territory still exists: first, the existence of a shortest time scale of AGN activity and secondly the shape of high frequency end of AGN power spectrum. Also the spectral variations at the shortest timescale. Here, we present the preliminary results of AGN fast photometry performed with Korean VLBI Network(KVN). Observations were done in a 'anti-correlated' mode using two antennas, with always either one antenna pointing at the target. This results in an effective time resolution of 3 minutes. We used all four KVN frequencies, 22, 43, 86, and 129 GHz, in order to trace spectral variability. We have been able to derive high-quality light curves for 3C111 and 3C279 at 22 and 86 GHz observed on 31st of May and 30th of Nov. in 2012. We are currently performing detailed statistical analysis in order to assess the levels of variability or the corresponding upper limits.
