A new hybrid optimization algorithm based on path projection

  • In this article, a new method is introduced to improve the local search capability of meta-heuristic algorithms using the projection of the path on the border of constraints. In a mathematical point of view, the Gradient Projection Method is applied through a new approach, while the imposed limitations are removed. Accordingly, the gradient vector is replaced with a new meta-heuristic based vector. Besides, the active constraint identification algorithm, and the projection method are changed into less complex approaches. As a result, if a constraint is violated by an agent, a new path will be suggested to correct the direction of the agent's movement. The presented procedure includes three main steps: (1) the identification of the active constraint, (2) the neighboring point determination, and (3) the new direction and step length. Moreover, this method can be applied to some meta-heuristic algorithms. It increases the chance of convergence in the final phase of the search process, especially when the number of the violations of the constraints increases. The method is applied jointly with the authors' newly developed meta-heuristic algorithm, entitled Star Graph. The capability of the resulted hybrid method is examined using the optimal design of truss and frame structures. Eventually, the comparison of the results with other meta-heuristics of the literature shows that the hybrid method is successful in the global as well as local search.

A heuristic Sweeping Algorithm for Autonomous Smearing Robot

  • A heuristic sweeping algorithm for an autonomous smearing robot which executes the area filling task is proposed. This algorithm searches tracking points with the obstacle andenvironment wall while the robot tracking whole workspace, and finds sequential tracking line by sequentally connecting the tracking points in such a way that (1) the line should be never crossed, (2) the total tracking points should be is linked as short as possible, and (3) the tracking link should be cross over the obstacle in the work-space. If the line pass through the obstacle, hierarchical collision free algorithm proposed is implied. The proposed algorithm consists of (1) collision detection procedure, (2) obstacle map making procedures, (3) tracking points generation procedures for subgosls, (4) tracking points scanning procedures, and (5) obstacle avoidance procedure.

  • The ability to determine the optimal frequencies and offsets for independent and unrestricted ordering cycles for multiple items can be very valuable for managing storage capacity constrained facilities in a supply chain. The complexity of this problem has resulted in researchers focusing on more tractable surrogate problems that are special cases of the base problem. Murthy et al. (European Journal of Operation Research 2003) developed insights leading to solution of the original problem and present a heuristic for offsetting independent and unrestricted ordering cycles for items to minimize their joint storage requirements. However, their study cannot find optimal solution due to the Greedy Heuristic solution procedure. In this paper, we present a complete procedure to find the optimal solution for the model with a integer programming optimization approach and genetic algorithm. Numerical examples are included to compare each model with that of Murthy et at. Research of this type may prove useful in solving the more general problem of selecting order policies to minimize combined holding, ordering, and storage costs.

다원자재를 고려한 구매업자와 공급업자간 공급사슬에서의 통합재고모형에 관한 연구 (An Integrated Inventory Model for a Vendor-Buyer Supply Chain in a JIT Purchasing)

  • In this paper, we consider a single-vendor single-buyer supply chain problem where a single vendor orders raw materials from its supplier, then using its manufacturing processes converts the raw materials to finished goods in order to deliver finished goods to a single buyer for effective implementation of Just-In-Time Purchasing. An integrated lot-splitting model of facilitating multiple shipments in small lots between buyer and supplier is developed in a JIT Purchasing environment. Also, an iterative heuristic solution procedure is developed to find the order quantity for finished goods and raw materials, and number of shipments between buyer and supplier. We show by numerical example that when the integrated policy is adopted by both vendor and buyer in a cooperative manner, both parties can benefit.

  • In this paper, we deal with a mesh network design problem arising from the deployment of WDM for the optical internet. The mesh network consists of mesh topology for satisfying traffic demand while minimizing the cost of WDM, OXC, and fiber cables. The problem seeks to find an optimal routing of traffic demands in the network such that the total cost is minimized. We formulate the problem as a mixed-integer programming model and devise a tabu search heuristic procedure. Also we develop an optical internet design system that implements the proposed tabu search heuristic procedure. We demonstrate the computational efficacy of the proposed algorithm, compared with CPLEX 8.0.

  • This study develops an efficient heuristic which is based on genetic approach for AGVs flow path layout problem. The suggested solution approach uses a algorithm to replace two 0-1 integer programming models and a branch-and-bound search algorithm. Genetic algorithms are a class of heuristic and optimization techniques that imitate the natural selection and evolutionary process. The solution is to determine the flow direction of line in network AGVs. The encoding of the solutions into binary strings is presented, as well as the genetic operators used by the algorithm. Genetic algorithm procedure is suggested, and a simple illustrative example is shown to explain the procedure.

  • An efficient heuristic solution procedure is developed for the minimum location problems. The gradient direction method and modified gradient approach are developed due to the differentiability of the objective functions. Suboptimal step size is obtained analytically. A Modified Gradient Procedure (NGP) is presented and compared with the hyperboloid approximation procedure (HAP) which is one of the best known methods.

  • This study provides a heuristic algorithm to solve the locating problem of repair service centers (RSCs). To enhance the customer service level with more satisfaction and quicker responsiveness, the locating problem of RSCs has become one of the important issues in reverse supply chain management. This problem is formulated as a zero-one mixed integer programming in which an exiting distributor will be considered to be an un-capacitated repair service center for the objective of cost-minimizing. Since logistical costs are highly interrelated with the multinational location of distributors and RSCs, the fixed cost for setting a repair service center, variable cost, transportation cost, and exchange rates are considered in this study. Recognizing the selection of un-capacitated RSCs' locations is a combinatorial optimization problem and is a zero-one mixed integer programming with NP-hard complexity, we provide a heuristic algorithm named as incremental cost matrix procedure (ICMP) to simplify the solving procedure. By using the concise and structural cost matrix, ICMP can efficiently screen the potential location with cost advantage and effectively decide which distributor should be a RSC. Results obtained from the numerical experiments conducted in small scale problem have shown the fact that ICMP is an effective and efficient heuristic algorithm for solving the RSCs locating problem. In the future, using the extended ICMP to solve problems with larger industrial scale or problems with congestion effects caused by the variation of customer demand and the restriction of the RSC capacity is worth a further investigation.

케이블 비용을 고려한 링메쉬 구조의 광통신망 설계 (Design of Hierarchical Ring-Mesh Optical Networks Considering Cabling Cost)

  • 본 논문에서는 링과 메쉬 구조를 이용한 경제적인 계층형 광통신망 설계 문제를 다룬다. 계층형(hierarchical) 광통신망 설계 문제에서 고려하는 비용 요소는 링 구조의 광통신망 내부(intra-ring) 트래픽 처리를 담당하는 OADM(Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer), 메쉬 구조의 링간(inter-ring) 트래픽 처리를 담당하는 OXC(Optical Cross-Connect) 및 OADM간 케이블 비용 및 OXC간 케이블 비용이다. 이 논문에서 제시하는 계층형 광통신망 설계 문제에서는 OADM 및 OXC의 트래픽 처리 용량과 각 링의 OADM 개수 제약을 고려한다. 이 논문에서는 계층형 광통신망 설계 문제를 정수계획법(integer programming) 모형으로 모델링하며, 링의 대칭성(symmetry)을 부분적으로 제거하는 절단평면(cutting planes)을 개발한다. 또한, 우수한 품질의 해를 적절한 시간동안 찾기 위해 휴리스틱 알고리즘을 개발한다. 모의 실험을 통해 절단평면과 휴리스틱 알고리즘의 성능을 평가한 결과 크기가 작은 문제에 대해서는 이 논문에서 개발한 절단평면을 정수계획법 모형에 추가함으로서 최적해를 구하는 시간을 크게 단축시키며, 크기가 큰 문제에 대해서는 이 논문에서 개발한 휴리스틱 알고리즘이 상용 소프트웨어인 CPLEX가 찾는 휴리스틱 해보다 우수한 해를 발견함을 확인하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 안경의 광학적 특성에서 고안된 새로운 메타휴리스틱 최적화 알고리즘인 Vision Correction Algorithm(VCA)을 개발하였다. VCA는 안경광학분야에서 수행되는 검안과 교정과정을 최적해 탐색 과정에 적용한 기법으로 근시/원시교정-밝기조정-압축시행-난시교정의 과정을 거쳐 최적화를 수행하게 된다. 제안된 VCA는 기존의 메타휴리스틱 알고리즘과 달리 현재까지 축적된 최적화 결과를 기반으로 전역탐색과 국지탐색 적용 확률, 그리고 전역탐색의 방향이 자동적으로 조정 된다. 제안된 방법을 대표적인 최적화 문제(수학 및 공학 분야)에 적용하고, 그 결과를 기존 알고리즘들과 비교하여 제시하였다.
