  • The purpose of this study was to determine the close relation between clinical symptom and histopathologic finding in pulp. 20 samples of pulp tissue were collected from badly decayed teeth with considerable pulp vitality. Hemogram was also made with the first drop of bleedieg after total pulp extirpation (10cases) and vital pulpotomy(10cases). Histologic specimen was made routinely with extirpated pulp and stained by H&E and P.A.S. Stains. The results under microsopic examination were as follows; 1. Hemogram obtained from dental pulp with acute inflammation revealed increase of polymorphonuclear leukocyte in number, more lymphocytes and monocytes. 2. Hemogram from pulp with chronic inflammation shown the number of lymphocyte and monocyte was remarkably increased. 3. Histologi specimen obtained from teeth with severe clinical symptome showed polymorphonuclear leukocyte infiltration and the hemogram also showed polymorphonuclear leukocytes. 4. Specimen from teeth with moderate symptom showed lymphocyte infiltration and vessel dilatation underneath decayed area. Erythrocytes were massively accumulated inside of the vessel wall.

  • To investigate the effects of T-2 toxin on the blastogenesis of lymphocytes, pathology, hemogram and blood chemistry in the goat, the korean native goats were treated orally with T-2 toxin for 21 days with a dosage of 0.6mg per kg body weight. The results were as follows: 1. The total count of leukocytes and lymphocytes decreased significantly from 14 to 21 days after treatment. 2. Mryeloid: erythroid ratios increased significantly on days 12 after treatment. 3. Delayed-type hypersensitivity skin reactions to tuberculin were reduced predominantly. 4. T-2 toxin induced prolonged prothrombin time. 5. Mitogenic responses of lymphocytes to both lipopolysaccharide and phytohemagglutinin were significantly depressed on days 7 and 14 after treatment. 6. Treatment of T-2 toxin caused marked depletion of lymphocytes in the thymus, mesenteric lymph node, peyer's patchs and spleen.

  • Systemic fungicides viz., Bavistin and Beyleton are reported to have curative effect against the infection of Beauveria bassiana in silkworm Bombyx mori L. To understand the influence of the systemic fungicides on the disease suppression/development, hematological studies were carried out. There was an increase in the percent total hemocyte count, granulocyte and plasmatocyte in silkworm treated with the systemic fungicides. It possibly indicates the influence of systemic fungicide on the hemocyte mediated defense system leading to the higher resistance and suppression of disease development.

  • A 2-year-old female Pekingese dog was presented with primary complaints including exercise intolerance and neurological sign associated with hepatic encephalopathy. The major findings in clinical examination included an intermittent seizure, a slow heart rate with pulse deficit, leukocytosis and anemia in hemogram, elevated pre- and post-prandial serum bile acid and hepatic enzymes, hypoproteinemia, coagulopathy, ammonium urate crystaluria and bilirubinuria. Diagnostic tests revealed an intrahepatic portosystemic shunt complicated with a second degree atrioventricular block and QT prolongation. The case was successfully treated with a transvenous coil embolization. Clinical signs were gradually improved and cardiac bradyarrhythmia disappeared. This case is a rare case of intrahepatic portosystemic shunts complicated with a cardiac bradyarrhythmia in a small breed dog fixed by a transvenous coil embolization.

  • A 4-year-old male Miniature Pinscher was referred because of head tilt, nystagmus, and ataxia. The hemogram revealed a moderate neutrophilic leukocytosis. On magnetic resonance imaging, cerebellar inflammation was detected. And cerebrospinal fluid analysis indicated marked neutrophilic pleocytosis. Based on these results, bacterial meningoencephalitis was suspected. The clinical signs were well controlled by a combination antibiotics therapy of the third generation cephalosporins (cefotaxime and cefixime) and metronidazole. We tentatively diagnosed this case as a bacterial meningoencephalitis because clinical signs were improved after only antibiotics therapy and relapsed when stopped antibiotics administrations, even though the result of bacterial culture on communication of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was negative.

  • This study was made to observe changes in hemograms of the Sarcoma-180 mouse treated with extracts of Poria cocos and Panax ginseng. The life span of the Sarcoma-180 mouse administered with the mixture of the extract of Panax ginseng with the extract of P. cocos and the extract of P. cocos was extended more than the non-treated group. In the body weight of the Sarcoma-180 mouse, the non-treated group was increased more than the normal group and the groups administered with the mixture of ginseng extract with hoelen extract and hoelen extract. In the numbers of white blood cell especially lymphocyte, the groups administered with the mixture of ginseng extract with hoelen extract and hoelen extract were similar to the normal group, but the non-treated group was decreased. The Hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume and mean corpuscular hemoglobin in the mice infected with Sarcoma-180 were not significantly different between the group treated with extracts of them and the non-treated group. In the distributions and sizes of white blood cell and platelet in the mice, the group administered with the Hoelen extract was similar to the normal group comparing to the non-treated group.

  • Background: To identify the potential prognostic role of the neutrophil/lymphocyte (N/L) ratio in larynx carcinoma. Materials and Methods: Oncologic archive charts of patients with a larynx carcinoma diagnosis between the years 2010 and 2013 were retrospectively reviewed. The inclusion criterion was to be available with hemogram test prior to diagnostic procedure. Patients undergoing septorinoplasty comprised the control group. Results: There were 65 cases in the study and 42 cases in control group meeting inclusion criteria. In general a non-significant increase in N/L ratio was observed with increasing tumor size and stage (p>0.05) in larynx carcinoma. The N/L ratio was found to be significantly higher in larynx carcinoma compared to control group (p=0.004). Conclusions: In conclusion, the N/L ratio was shown to be significantly increased in larynx carcinomas compared to control group. Further studies are needed to assess any prognostic role.

  • A 3-month old female Holstein calf was presented with about a month history of intermittent dyspnea, exercise intolerance and cough despite antibiotic therapy. Auscultation revealed prominent inspiratory and exploratory crackles and wheezes over the causal cervical trachea which were heard equally over both side of the chest.4 modest amount of forced exercise caused severe respiratory distress with stertorous noise and occasional honkinglike cough. Pasteurella spp. was isolated on the nasal swabs and a hemogram showed mild leucocytosis with a mature neutrophilia and mild monocytosis. Lateral radiographs of the neck and thorax revealed a marked narrowing of the tracheal lumen extending from the level of the fifth cervical to the second thoracic vertebra, and the lung field was judged to be within normal limitsi except very mild peribronchial thickening. The hypertrophic non-union fractures of the first pair of ribs were noted with a well delineatedr redundant callus formations and also the completely healed fractures were found on the next seven pairs of ribs. A diagnosis of tracheal collapse was made, which is thought to be a traumatic origin.4 poor prognosis was given. The calf was euthanatized and necropsied. The tracheal rings from 19th to 41s1 were collapsed dorsoventrally. Histologically, there was no difference between the collapsed and normal areas of the tracheae except the folding mucosal layer in the collapsed area. This report details a case of tracheal collapse in a calli and the literature is reviewed.
