  • In previous studies, high fever, inappentence, increased respiratory rate, muscle tremors, anemia, jaundice, loss of weight hemoglobinenuria and hemoglobinuria were found in dogs infected intraerythrocytic protzoan parasites of the gennus Babesia. These changes were mainly caused by the intravascular hemolysis. In this study, a Pit Bull Terrier, which was infected by babesia, was investigated clinical signs and patterms of blood. The findings from this study indicated that dog with severs clinical signs shown erythropenia, lymphocytophilia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia and eosinpenia. Furthermore, it presenter low level of hemglobin and hematocrit. However MCV, MCH and MCHC did not decreased as compare to normal dogs.

  • This survey was carried out to obtain the information concerning nutritional status, including factors of food intake and health condition of elderly women living in Ulsan city. Main results were as follows. 1) Dietary intake data showed the average daily intake of energy, protein, vitamin A, riboflavin and ascorbic acid were lower than Korean recommended dietary allowances (RDA). According to the percentage of RDA, Vitamin A was the nutrient found to be least sufficient. 2) Among the various influencial factors, pocket money, meal-mate, skip meal and health concern influenced on nutrient intake considerably. A meal condition score based on influencial factors, showed significant correlations with all nutrient intake(P<0.001). A health score based n the subjects complains about health condition, showed significant correlations with intake of energy, carbohydrate, thiamin, and niacin(P<0.05). 3) Average hight was below Korea reference, while average body weight of subjects was close to Korean reference. Average body mass index was 23.0. 4) The average systolic and diastolic blood pressure was 140mmHg/88mmHg, the proportion of hypertension was 32.4 percent. The average hemglobin concentration was 12.7g/dl, only 6.7 percent of subjects were anemic. Serum cholesterol concentration was normal range(140~220mg/dl) in all subjects.

  • The effects of ionizing radiation on the peripheral blood elements of ICR mouse were examined after varying doses of whole-body gamma-irradiation. ICR mice (n=50) were exposed to 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 Gy gamma-ray ($^{60}Co$) at 10 Gy/min. The animals were studied for their hematological response on days, 3, 7, 14, 21, 42 and 56 post irradiation. No significant change was noted in erythrocyte, hemoglobin and hematocrit values after irradiation with dose of 2 Gy. Decreasing erythrocyte, hemglobin and hematocrit values occured after irradiation with doses of more than 4 Gy on day 7 after irradiation followed by a sharp fall on day 14. A recovery in these values was noted after 3 weeks of irradiation. Thrombocyte counts decreased on day 3, reaching minimal values on day 7. The total number of leukocytes was reduced on day 3, mainly because of a decrease in the lymphocyte population. An evident lymphopenia and neutropenia occur almost on the day 3 and last up to the day 28 after irradiation. All of the hematological values decreased in the blood in a dose-dependent manner at the same time.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigated relationship between heath status and food preference of male and fermale adults who live in Iksan City, Cheonbuk, Korea. The subjects consisted of 96 male and 93 fermale adults were aged 20 to 70 years old. Each subject was interviewed to get information of food preference. Blood samples were taken concentration of serum in hemoglobin, glucose, total cholesterol, GOT(glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase), GPT(glutamic pyruvic transaminase) were measured. The results obtained were as follows: Among the food preference were like, dislike and ordinary answered to male and fermale adults the normal average of serum concentration with hemoglobin level showed 15.4, 14.2, 15.5, 12.9, 15.8 and 13.2g/dl, glucose level showed 85.8, 86.1, 87.5, 88.1, 87.9 and 86.1mg/dl, total cholesterol level showed 183.1, 185.0, 172.4, 193.5, 181.2 and 184.0mg/dl, GOT level showed 4.8, 23.4, 24.8, 23.9, 24.9 and 21.7ppm, GPT level showed 22.7, 20.2, 26.3, 18.5, 22.5 and 18.4ppm respectively. The abnormal average of serum concentration with hemoglobin level showed 11.1, 10.8, 12.2, 11.3, 12.5 and 11.0g/dl, abnormal glucose level showed 155.7 168.5, 166.2, 134.1, 124.1, 130.1, abnormal total cholesterol level showed 260.3, 273.7, 255.2, 286.5, 255.9 and 251.8mg/dl, abnormal GOT level showed 58.8, 66.8, 51.8, 50.3, 51.2 and 51.0ppm abnormal GPT level showed 54.3, 48.6, 51.3, 50.2, 53.2 and 45.5ppm respectively.
