Investigation of effects of newly synthesized Pt(II) complex against human serum albumin and leukemia cell line of K562

  • The biological evaluation of a new synthesized Pt(II)-complex, 2,2'-bipyridin Butylglycinato Pt(II) nitrate, an anti-tumor component, was studied at different temperatures by fluorescence and far UV circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopic methods. Human serum albumin (HSA) and human tumor cell line K562 were as targets. The Pt(II)-complex has a strong ability to quench the intrinsic fluorescence of HSA. Binding and thermodynamic parameters of the interaction were calculated by fluorescence quenching method. Far-UV-CD results showed that Pt(II)-complex induced increasing in content of $\alpha$ helical structure of the protein and stabilized it. The 50% cytotoxic concentration ($Cc_{50}$) of complex was determined using MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) assay at different incubation times. Also, fluorescence staining with DAPI (4,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole) revealed some typical nuclear changes, which are characteristic of apoptosis. Above results suggest that Pt (II) complex is a promising anti-proliferative agent and should execute its biological effects by inducing apoptosis.

케이블 컨듀잇 굽힘 센서의 선형 특성 분석 및 켈리브레이션 (Linearity Analysis and Calibration of a Cable-Conduit Bend Sensor)

  • Previous shape sensors including bend sensors and optic fiber based sensors are widely used in various applications including goniometer and surgical robots. But theses sensors have large nonlinearity, limited in the range of sensing curvature, and sometimes are expensive. This study suggests a new concept of bend sensor using cable-conduit which consists of the outer sheath and the inner wire. The outer sheath is made of helical coil whose length of the central line changes as the sheath bends. This length change of the central line can be measured with the length change of the inner cable. The modeling and the experimental results show that the output signal of the proposed sensor is linearly related with the bend angle of the sheath with root mean square error of 5.3% of $450^{\circ}$ sensing range. Also the polynomial calibration of the sensor can decrease the root mean square error to 2.1% of the full sensing range.

Fast Dimming Associated with a Coronal Jet Seen in Multi-Wavelength and Stereoscopic Observations

  • We have investigated a coronal jet observed near the limb on 2010 June 27 by the Hinode/X-Ray Telescope (XRT), EUV Imaging Spectrograph (EIS), and Solar Optical Telescope (SOT), and the SDO/Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA), Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI), and on the disk by STEREO-A/EUVI. From EUV (AIA and EIS) and soft X-ray (XRT) images we have identified both cool and hot jets. There was a small loop eruption in Ca II images of the SOT before the jet eruption. Using high temporal and multi wavelength AIA images, we found that the hot jet preceded its associated cool jet by about 2 minutes. The cool jet showed helical-like structures during the rising period. According to the spectroscopic analysis, the jet's emission changed from blue to red shift with time, implying helical motions in the jet. The STEREO observation, which enabled us to observe the jet projected against the disk, showed that there was a dim loop associated with the jet. We have measured a propagation speed of ~800 km/s for the dimming front. This is comparable to the Alfven speed in the loop computed from a magnetic field extrapolation of the HMI photospheric field measured 5 days earlier and the loop densities obtained from EIS Fe XIV line ratios. We interpret the dimming as indicating the presence of Alfvenic waves initiated by reconnection in the upper chromosphere.

수 종 고사리삼과 식물 지상부의 가도관 구조 (Tracheid Structure in Aerial System of Several Ophioglossaceous Plants)

  • Tracheid structure of aerial system in five species of Ophioglossaceae and one species of Osmundaceae was examined with light and scanning electron microscopy. The species were Botrichium multifidum var. robustrum, B. ternatum, strictum, B. virginianum, Ophioglossum vulgatum, and Osmunda japonica. Three types of tracheids could be recognized by the pattern of secondary wall thickening; helical, irregular reticulate and circular bordered pitted tracheids. Among them, the appearance of circular bordered pitted tracheids supported that ophioglossaceous plants might have phylogenetic relationship with progymnosperm-seed plant line. Circular and elliptical bordered pits in shape were observed in five ophioglossaceous species; the former was subdivided into large and small types in size. In conclusion, three types of bordered pits were found: (1) large circular type- O. vulgatum, (2) small circular type- B. multifidum var. robustrum, B. ternatum and (3) elliptical type-B. strictum, B. virginianum. B. strictum and B. virginianum belong to subgenus Osmundopteris had the elliptical bordered pits. Therefore, this group might be interpreted as the most primitive in this family; however, such suggestion did subgenus Osmundopteris was classified into the most advanced group.

폐 바이오매스를 이용한 폐열 회수 열교환기에 관한 연구 (Study on Heat Recovery System using Waste Biomass)

  • Waste heat recovery system was studied numerically and experimentally. Heat exchanger system was designed specially to obtain the optimum heat exchanging performance. Brushwood biomass was used for the present experimental study. Two biomass heat recovery systems were designed and developed. Polyethylene helical pipe line of 0.03 m (inner diameter) was installed to recover the heat of biomass dump. The fermentation process of biomass dump was maintained for 12 weeks. The inner average temperature of biomass was about 51$^{\circ}C$ for both hot exchanger systems. The current heat recovery system could recover up to 6 ㎉/kg of energy.

도깨비봉형 오존발생장치이 펄스커로나 방전에 의한 오존 발생 특성 (High Efficiency Ozone Generation Using a Pyramid-Project-Embossed Rod-to-Cylinder Electrode and a Pulse Corona Discharge)

  • The conversion efficiency of an ozone generator can be significantly improved by modifying the discharge electrode of a helical strip line rod-to-cylinder type ozone generator to a pyramid-project-embossed rod, and by using a pulse corona discharge. Parametric studies have been carried out to obtain optimum values of peak pulse voltage, pulse forming capacitance, feeder cable and ozone generator capacitance, interelectrode spacing and corona tip density of ozone generator, and feed air flow rate and temperature. The generated ozone concentration was very dependent upon the value of pulse forming capacitance, feeder cable and ozone generator capacitance, and corona tip density. Maximum conversion efficiency was obtained with a pulse forming capacitance of about 500pF, 75pF matched feeder cable and ozone generator, and a corona tip density of 16mm. When operated at optimum values, ozone yield of 79, 99, 80 g/KWh for the different interelectrode type ozone generators tested were obtained, which are approximately 30% higher than that of an industrial ozone generator.

유도결합형 플라즈마원을 이용한 고선택비 산화막 식각에 관한 연구 (A Study on the High Selective Oxide Etching using Inductively Coupled Plasma Source)

  • In developing the high density memory device, the etching of fine pattern is becoming increasingly important. Therefore, definition of ultra fine line and space pattern and minimization of damage and contamination are essential process. Also, the high density plasma in low operating pressure is necessary. The candidates of high density plasma sources are electron cyclotron resonance plasma, helicon wave plasma, helical resonator, and inductively coupled plasma. In this study, planar type magnetized inductively coupled plasma etcher has been built. The density and temperature of Ar plasma are measured as a function of rf power, flow rate, external magnetic field, and pressure. The oxide etch rate and selectivity to polysilicon are measured as the above mentioned conditions and self-bias voltage.

  • The development of marine technology is expected to increase the demand for marine plants because of increasing oil prices. Therefore, there is also expected to be an increase in the demand for cylindrical structures such as URF (umbilical, riser, flowline) structures and spars, which are used operating in various seas. However, a cylindrical structure experiences vortex induced motion (VIM) in a current. In particular, for risers and umbilicals, it is important to identify the characteristics of the VIM because interference between structures can occur. In addition, various studies have been conducted to reduce VIM because it is the cause of fatigue damage to structures. The helical strake, which was developed for VIM reduction, has an excellent VIM reduction performance, but is difficult to install on structures and has a negative effect on heave motion. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to supplement the shortcomings of the helical strake and develop a high-performance reduction device. In the reduction device developed in this study, a string is placed around the structure inside the flow, causing vibration. The vibration of this string causes a small turbulence in the flow field, reducing the VIM effect on the structure. Finally, in this study, the 2-DOF motion characteristics of models without a suppression device, models with a helical strake, and models with a string were investigated, and their reduction performances were compared through model tests.

차량용 통합 능동형 안테나의 설계 및 제작 (Design and Implementation of An Active Antenna for Vehicle)

  • 본 논문은 기생면을 이용한 마이크로 스트립안테나 형태로 소형화 된 방사체와 증폭단를 결합하여 AM/FM 대역, DMB 대역 및 GPS 대역을 수신할 수 있는 차량용 통합 안테나를 설계 및 제작 하였다. 제작한 능동형 안테나는 AM/FM 대역에서 기존의 평면형 안테나에 비해 15% 이상의 크기 축소 효과를 나타내었다. 또한 상용 헬리컬 안테나와 동등한 수신 성능 특성을 나타내었며 DMB 및 GPS 대역에서도 만족할만한 수신 성능 특성을 나타내었다. 제작된 능동형 안테나의 크기는 $133{\times}31{\times}1.2mm$이고, 단일 입력 단자와 2개의 출력 단자를 갖는다.

Effect of sensor positioning error on the accuracy of magnetic field mapping result for NMR/MRI

  • Nowadays the magnetic field mapping is widely used in the design and analysis of the NMR/MRI magnet system, and the accuracy of mapping result has become more and more important. There are several factors affecting the accuracy of the mapping such as the mapping method, the precision of the sensor, the position of the measurement points, the calculation accuracy, and so on. In this paper the error due to the misalignment of the measurement points was discussed. The magnetic field in the central volume was mapped using an indirect method in an MRI magnet system and the magnetic field was fitted to a polynomial. Considering the misalignment between the original measurement points and the practical measurement points, there must be some errors in the mapping calculation and we called it positioning error. Several comparisons of the positioning error have been presented through the theoretical estimates and the exact magnetic field values. Finally, the allowable positioning errors were suggested to guarantee the accuracy of the magnetic field mapping within a certain degree for an example case.
