The curing kinetics of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol F (DGEBF) with an asymmetric cycloaliphatic amine curing agent were examined by thermal analysis in both isothermal and dynamic curing conditions. From the residual curing of the samples partially cured in isothermal condition and from the dynamic curing with various heating rates, it was found that there exist two kinds of reactions such as at low temperature and at high temperature regions. It was thus also found that the cure parameters obtained from the isothermal curing kinetic model hardly estimate experimental results for a degree of cure larger than 0.6. The activation energies and frequency factors of these two kinds of reactions were obtained from the dynamic curing experiments with various heating rates. From the curing analysis, it was verified that the total cure kinetics for low degrees of cure is dominated by the cure reaction in the low temperature region.

We have studied the etching of Si(100)-2xl by Cl and Br, using scanning tunneling microscopy to obtain morphological information that can be related to reaction and desorption pathways. Clean surfaces were exposed to molecular halogens at room temperature to produce well-defined chemisorption structures for coverages in the range 0.2-1.0 ML. Heating to 750-750 K induced etching by thermal desorpton. Analysis of the halogen concentration before and after heating indicated that the rates of desorption for SICl2 or SiBr2 were greatest for intermediate coverages and that etching was suppressed as saturation was reached. Hence, desorption is not simply proportional to the concentration of species that can form adsorbed precursors SiX2(a). Instead, it is directly coupled to the creation of monomer vacancies adjacent to the SiX2 (a) unit because this increases the lifetime of the excited state and increases the likelihood of its desorption. Increasing the surface concentration of halogens reduces the rate of vacancy formation. We show that these rates are also affected by a re-dimerization process in the high temperature Br-stabilized Si(100)-3xl reconstruction that increases the likelihood of siBr2(a) formation and enhances its desorption. I will also discuss recent result for F etching on Si(100)-2xl.
The post-fire behavior of structural elements and the cooling process has always been one of the main concerns of the structural engineers. The structures can be cooled at different rates, where they affect the structure's behavior. In the present study, a numerical model has been developed using the Abaqus program to investigate the effect of cooling rate on the post-fire behavior of the CFST column. To verify the model, results of an experimental study performed on CFST columns within a full heating and cooling cycle have been used. In this model, coMParison of the residual strength has been employed in order to examine the behavior of CFST column under different cooling rates. Furthermore, a parametric study was carried out on the strength of steel and concrete, the height of the specimens, the axial load ratio and the cross-sectional shape of the specimen through the proposed model. It was observed that the cooling rate affects the behavior of the column after the fire, and thus the higher the specimen's temperature is, the more effect it has on the behavior. It was also noticed that water cooling had slightly more residual strength than natural cooling. Furthermore, it was recognized from the parametric study, that by increasing the strength of steel and concrete and the load ratio, as well as modifying the cross-sectional shape from circular to square, residual strength of column at the cooling phase was less than that of the heating phase. In addition, with reducing column height, no change was witnessed in the column behavior after the cooling phase.
Purpose: The underground air is the warm air discharged from the porous volcano bedrock 30-50m underground in Jeju, including excessive humidity. The temperature of the underground air is $15-20^{\circ}C$ throughout the year. In Jeju, the underground air was used for heating greenhouses by supplying into greenhouses directly. This heating method by supplying the underground air into greenhouses directly had several problems. The study was conducted to develop the heat pump system using underground air as heat source for resolving excessive humidity problem of the underground air, adopting the underground air as a farm supporting project by Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs(MAFRA) and saving heating cost for agricultural facilities. Method: 35kW scale(10 RT) heat pump system using underground air installed in a greenhouse of area $330m^2$ in Jeju-Special Self-Governing Province Agricultural Research & Extension Services, Seogwipo-si, Jeju. The inlet and outlet water temperature of the condenser, the evaporator and the thermal storage tank and the underground air temperature and the air temperature in the greenhouse were measured by T type thermocouples. The data were collected and saved in a data logger(MV200, Yokogawa, Japan). Flow rates of water flowing in the condenser, the evaporator and the thermal storage tank were measured by an ultrasonic flow meter(PT868, Panametrics, Norway). The total electric power that consumed by the system was measured by a wattmeter(CW240, Yokogawa, Japan). Heating COP, rejection heat of condenser, extraction heat of evaporator and heating cost were analyzed. Result: The underground air in Jeju was adopted as a farm supporting project by Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs(MAFRA) in 2010. From 2011, the heat pump systems using underground air as a heat source were installed in 12 farms(16.3ha) in Jeju.
To assure maximum economic benefits and the energy performance of solar water heating systems, the proper sizing of components and operating conditions need to be optimized. In recent years, a number of studies to design optimally solar water heating systems have been tried. This paper presents a design method for optimizing the various capacity-related and installation-related design variables based on life cycle cost using a genetic algorithm. The design variables considered in this study included the types and numbers of solar collector and auxiliary heaters; the types of storage tanks and heat exchangers; the solar collector slope; mass flow rates of the fluid on the hot and cold sides. The suggested method was applied for optimizing a solar water heating system for an elementary school in Seoul, South Korea. In addition, the effectiveness of the proposed optimization method was assessed by analyzing the obtained optimal solutions of six case studies, each of which was simulated with different solar fractions. It is observed that a trade-off between the equipment cost and the energy cost results in an optimal design that yields the lowest life cycle cost. Therefore, it could be helpful to apply the optimal solar water heating system by comparing the various design solutions obtained by using the optimization method instead of the engineer's experience and intuition.
In this study, experimental study on the heating performance of a $CO_2$ heat pump water heater with a variation of operating conditions such as refrigerant charge amount, outdoor temperature, compressor frequency, EEV opening and water mass flow rate. Based on the test results, the optimum charge amount was 1800 g. At the water mass flow rates of 75, 85, 95 kg/hr, the water heating temperature was 62, 67, $74^{\circ}C$ and COP was 2.6, 2.8, 3.0, respectively. Besides, the water mass flow rate and compressor frequency were varied to maintain above the water heating temperature of $60^{\circ}C$ with the decrease of outdoor temperature. So, The compressor frequency increased beyond 65 Hz and the water mass flow rate was 45 kg/hr at the outdoor temperature of $-13^{\circ}C$, 65 kg/hr at $-8^{\circ}C$, 75 kg/hr at $-3^{\circ}C$ and 85 kg/hr at 2, $7^{\circ}C$. As the outdoor temperature decreased, the heating COP decreased by 2.5-39.8%.
This study aims to analyze the performance of solar thermal system with heat pump for domestic hot water and heat supply. There are four types of system. Systems are categorized based on the existence of a heat pump and the ways of controlling the working fluid circulating from the collector. Working fluid is controlled by either temperature level (categorized as system 1 and 2) or sequential flow (system 3 and 4). Heat balance of the system, the solar fraction, hot water and heating supply rates, and performance of heat pump are analyzed using TRNSYS and TESS component programs. Technical specifications of the main facilities are as follow; the area of the collector to $25m^2$, the volumes of the main tank and the buffer tank to $0.5m^3$ and $0.8m^3$, respectively. Heating capacity of the heat pump in the heating mode is set to 30,000 kJ / hr. Hot water supply set 65 liters per person each day, total heat transfer coefficient of the building to 1,500 kJ / kg.K. Indoor temperature is kept steadily around $22^{\circ}C$. The results are as follows; 6 months average solar fraction of system 1 turns out to be 39%, which is 6.7% higher than system 2 without the heat pump, indicating a 25% increase of solar fraction compared to that of system 2. In addition, the solar fraction of system 1 is 2% higher than that of system 3. Hot water and heating supply rate of system 1 are 93% and 35%, respectively. Considering the heat balance of the system, higher heat efficiency, and solar fraction, as whole, it can be concluded that system 1 is the most suitable system for hot water and heat supply.
Strong radiation fields can change the ionization state of metals and hence cooling rates. In order to understand their effects on the momentum transfer from radiation and supernova feedback, we perform a suite of radiation-hydrodynamic simulations with radiation-modulated metal cooling. For this purpose, we pre-tabulate the metal cooling rates for a variety of spectral shapes and flux levels with the spectral synthesis code, Cloudy, and accurately determine the rates based on the local radiation field strength. We find that the inclusion of the radiation-modulated metal cooling decreases the total radial momentum produced by photo-ionization heating by a factor of ~3 due to enhanced cooling at temperature T~10^3-4 K. The amount of momentum transferred from the subsequent SN explosions, however, turns out to be little affected by radiation, as the main cooling agents at T~10^5-6 K are only destroyed by soft X-ray radiation which is generally weak. We further discuss the total momentum budget in various conditions.

Observing sub-mm continuum emission from cold dust can play an important role in measuring star formation rates of galaxies, especially in the case of AGN host ones, since AGNs contaminate FIR fluxes by dust heating. To measure star formation rates, we observed total 49 local AGN host galaxies(z<0.2) by SCUBA-2 camera at James Clerk Maxwell Telescope(JCMT) at 450㎛ and 850㎛. We performed several tests with the observed images to determine whether each source is detected, and adopted 3s as the flux upper limit in non-detection cases. Using these measurements and FIR archival data, we modeled spectral energy distributions of the galaxies to estimate star formation rates. The effect of AGN activity on host galaxy star formation will be discussed.
Efforts were made to determine the activation energy and the reaction order by adopting Kissinger and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa analysis methods. All the data were acquired from TGA thermograms for the mixed fuels with different temperature heating rates. It could be known that both the coal and the mixed fuels decomposed thermally at temperature ranges of $300{\sim}700^{\circ}C$. The temperature at the maximum reaction rate, Tp, could be determined by DTG method, which could be obtained by differentiation of TGA thermogram. Kissinger analysis showed the linear relationship with experimental data, showing the activation energy of $319.64{\pm}4$ kJ/mol. From Flynn-Wall-Ozawa analysis, it was shown that the activation energies and the reaction orders did not undergo any significant changes with both the conversions and the heating rates. It was considered from this facts that the combustion mechanism of the mixed fuels could not be affected by the extent of conversion and heating rate. In the present study, the activation energies showed different values according to the different analysis methods. The difference might be originated from the inconsistency of the mathematical data treatment method. In other words, while the activation energies obtained from the Kissinger method indicated the average values for overall reaction, that from Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method showed the average values for the each conversion around Tp.
