We present in this Paper a microwave Power sensor fabricated by a standard CMOS process and a bulk micromachining process. The sensor consists of a CPW transmission line, a resistor as a healer, and thermocouple arrays. An input microwave heater, the resistor so that the temperature rises proportionally to the microwave power and tile thermocouple arrays convert it to an electrical signal. The sensor uses air bridged 8round of CPW realized by wire bonding to reduce tile device size and cost and to improve the thermal impedance. Al/poly-Si junctions are used for the thermocouples. Poly-Si is used for tile resister and Aluminium is for transmission line. The resistor and hot junctions of the thermocouples are placed on a low stress silicon nitride diaphragm to minimize a thermal loss. The fabricated device operates properly from 1㎼ to 100㎽\ulcorner of input power. The sensitivity was measured to be ,3.2~4.7 V/W.

This paper describes on the fabrication and characteristics of hot-film type micro-flowsensors integrated with Pt-RTD\`s and micro-heater on the Si substrate, in which MgO thin-films were used as medium layer in order to improve adhesion of Pt thin-films to SiO$_2$ layer The MgO layer improved adhesion of Pt thin-films to SiO$_2$` layer without any chemical reactions to Pt thin-films under high as gas flow rate and its conductivity increased due to increase of heat-loss from sensor to external. Output voltage was 82 mV at N2 flow rate of 2000 sccm/min, heating power of 1.2W. The respons time was about 100 msec when input flow was step-input

In houses that use heating and cooling system, most of heat loss occurs through the windows, so that low-E glass, double-layered glass, and vacuum glazing are used to minimize the heat loss. In this paper, an encapsulating process that is a final process in manufacturing the vacuum glazing has been studied, and bonding in a vacuum chamber rather than atmospheric bonding was considered. For the efficiency of the encapsulating process, frit-melting temperature and bonding time were optimized with heater temperature, and the glass preheating temperature was optimized to prevent glass breakage due to thermal stress. Thus the vacuum glass was successfully manufactured based on these results and heat transmission coefficient measured was about $5.7W/m^2K$ which indicates that the internal pressure of the vacuum glazing is $10^{-2}$ torr.

Carbon-based materials have been known as ablative material and have been used for thermal protection systems. Ablation is an erosive phenomenon that results in thermochemical and thermomechanical changes on materials. Ablation resistance is one of the key properties that determines performance and life-time of the thermal protection material under ablative conditions. In this study, ablation properties of graphite, 3-dimensional (C/C) composites (needle-punched type and rod type) were investigated byusing a plasma wind tunnel which produce a supersonic plasma flow from a segmented arc heater with the power level of 0.4 MW. The mass losses and surface roughness changes which contain main result of the ablation are measured. A morphological analysis ofthe carbon-based materials, before and after the ablation test, are performed through field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and non-contact 3D surface measuring system. Electronic balance and a portable surface roughness tester were used for evaluation of the recession and mass loss of the test samples.

Artificial roughness as a means of improving heat transfer gains more interest, especially for application to various heat exchanger. This study present experimental information for single-phase free and force convection heat transfer in a circular tube containing a internal spiral ribs. To examine the effect of inclined angle of tube, it was varied from 0 deg to 90 deg (0.deg., 22.5.deg., 45.deg., 90.deg.) with horizontal. Length of tube is 1.6m, and width, height and helix angle of rib are 4.2mm, 1.5mm, and 60 deg respectively. Water was used as a working fluid and test piece was heated with a constant heat flux by electric heater. Experiments have been performed with the range of modified Grashof number from 2 * 10$^{6}$ to 15 * 10$^{6}$ for free convection and with the range of Reynolds number from 3,000 to 40,000 for forced convection. Since the increase in heat transfer coefficients influence directly to the friction coefficient of the tube, the changes of the friction factors are also presented for several different cases considered in this investigation.
The convective heat transfer coefficient, emissivity, and flame heat flux on the surface of Duglas fir are estimated by using repulsive particle swarm optimization. The surface temperature, mass loss rate, and ignition time are measured for various incident heat fluxes from a cone heater of the cone calorimeter. The calculated surface temperatures obtained by using the optimized convective heat transfer coefficient, emissivity and flame heat flux on the surface in this study match well with those obtained from the test. The maximum error between the predicted and measured surface temperatures for the three different external heat fluxes is within 2% showing reasonable agreements. The methodology proposed in this study can be used to obtain various values related to heat transfer on a flaming surface that are difficult to measure in experiments.
A hot water layer (HWL hereinafter) was installed at the depth of 1.2 m from the pool surface to reduce the radiation level at the pool top. After the HWL system was improved by the replacement of the filter with the Ion Exchanger to capture the Na-24, to purify the pool water of HWL and finally to reduce the radiation at the pool top. It was confirmed by the performance test of the pump and the measurement of the pressure difference through the Ion Exchanger and the strainer, that the flow characteristics of HWL system was not adversely affected after the system modification. Also the flow analysis using the pressure loss coefficients of the Ion Exchanger and strainer, calculated by the Darcy formula, could predict the flow variations by pressure changes within $10\%$ error in comparison with the field test results. It was also confirmed that HWL was maintained with the depth of 1.2 m from the pool surface because each electric water heater was electrically and thermodynamically maintained at 30 kW and the temperature of HWL was maintained with $5^{\circ}C$ higher temperature than that of pool water. Finally, it was confirmed that the pool top radiation was saturated and stabilized below 10000 nG/hr within 24 hours as the ion exchanger captured the main nucleus, Na-24 and purified the pool water of HWL.

The prediction of heat-up time of an LCD glass plate in LCD glass pre-treatment process has been implemented in the present study. Firstly, the analytical solution for one-dimensional radiation heat transfer from IR heaters to a LCD glass plate is obtained. When the surface temperature of the IR heaters is set at 473 K, the heat-up time of LCD glass to averaged temperature of 383K is 28 seconds. In addition, a three dimensional full CFD analysis using STAR-CD is implemented in an effort to consider the effect of 3-D heat loss through the furnace walls. From the results of the 3-D CFB analysis, the heat-up time increases up to 32.5 seconds under the same conditions. When the IR heater temperature in creases up to 573 K, the heat-up time decreases to 12 seconds for the one-dimensional analytical solution and to 13.5 seconds for the 3-D CFD analysis, respectively.

The shell and tube heat exchangers were introduced to apply to a big capacity condenser and a high pressure feed water heater for power plant in the beginning of 1990s. Design and manufacturing technology fur shell and tube heat exchangers have been developed until now. But it is very difficult to calculate the expected performance characteristics of the shell and tube heat exchanger, because there are many design parameters to be considered according to internal structure and the shell side heat transfer mechanism complicately related to the design parameters. Design parameters to be considered in the design stage of shell and tube heat exchanger are shell and tube side fluids, flow rate, inlet and outlet temperature, physical properties, type of heat exchanger, outer diameter, thickness, length of tube, tube arrangement, tube pitch, permissive pressure loss on both sides, type of baffle plate, baffle cutting ratio. The propose of study is an analysis TEMA(Tubular Exchanger Manufacturers Association) E shell and tube heat exchanger performance with changing a number of baffles(3, 5, 7, 9, 11) and tubes(16, 20) and determined optimal baffle spacing.
