Mock-up Test of Low Heat Concrete Using High Volume Mineral Admixture (혼화재를 다량 사용한 저발열 콘크리트의 모의부재실험)

  • In this study, for the evaluation of field application of low heat concrete using high volume mineral admixture, the characteristics of hydration heat generation and engineering properties of low heat concrete was investigated by mock-up test according to the replacement ratio of mineral admixture. Also, it was evaluated the compressive strength of low heat concrete with curing temperatures and ages for effective concrete mix design considering seasonal change.

Intake Valve Temperature Effect on the Mixture Preparation in a SI Engine During Warm-up

  • A heat transfer model of the intake valve in a spark ignition engine is presented, which is calibrated with a number of the valve temperature profiles measured during engine warm-up for the gaseous fuel(propane). The valve is divided into four identical elements for which the assumption of lumped thermal mass is applied. The calibration is made so that the difference between the measued and simulated valve temperatures becomes minimal. Then the model is applied to the cases of the liquid fuel(indolene) to estimate the amount of the liquid fuel vaporized from the intake valve by assuming that fuel evaporation accounts for the deficit of the heat balance budget. The results of the model show quantitative contribution of each heat transfer source to the heat balance. The behavior of the calculated mass fraction of the fuel vaporized from the intake valve explains how the liquid fuel evaporate during engine warm-up. The mass fraction at warmed-up condition is closely related with the fraction directly targeted on the valve back by the fuel spray geometry.

The Effect of Water Contact Angles of the Fin Surfaces of the Fin-and-Tube Heat Exchangers on the Water Hold-up (핀-관 열교환기에서의 핀의 물 접촉각이 응축잔수량에 미치는 영향)

  • An experimental study on the behavior of the water hold-up by condensation of a fin-and-tube heat exchanger with regard to the surface characteristics, i.e., contact angle, was conducted. The static and dynamic contact angles were measured, and condensation experiments were conducted. Flow patterns on the fins with different surface characteristics were visualized. Results showed that the static contact angle is proportional to the dynamic contact angle within the range of this study. The water hold-up of the heat exchanger increases as the static or dynamic contact angle of its surfaces increases. Existence of transition of flow patterns was found as the static or dynamic angle increase. Due to the transition in the flow patterns, changes in the gradient of the water hold-up is occurred around the static angle of 8$0^{\circ}C$.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance characteristics of new exhaust heat recovery device for the engine's fast warm-up. In this study, two different interior area designed for prototyping and on the exhaust heat recovery device to evaluate the performance compare the performance characteristics were chosen a better product. A company's product and selected prototype-2 were evaluated and compared the performance. This experiment was conducted under the same conditions. The time from starting to warm-up of engine was measured. As a result, the performance characteristics of the prototype-2 was not higher than that of the A company's product. However, in comparison with base system, prototype-2 of the exhaust heat recovery device discover that the warm-up time was shortened.

Performance evaluation of sea water heat exchanger installed in the submerged bottom-structure of floating architecture

  • Floating architecture is a type of building that is geographically located on a sea or a river. It floats under the influence of buoyancy, and does not have an engine for moving it. Korea is a peninsula surrounded by sea except on the north side, so floating architectures have been mainly focused on two points: solving the issue of small territory and providing various leisure & cultural spaces. Floating architectures are expected to save energy effectively, if they use sea water heat, which is known to be clean energy with infinite reserves. To use sea water heat as the heat source and/or heat sink, this study proposes a model in which a sea water heat exchanger is embedded in the concrete structure in the lower part of the floating architecture that is submerged under the sea. Based on the results of performance evaluations of the sea water heat exchanger using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) analysis and mock-up experiments under various conditions, it is found out that the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet of the heat exchanger is in the range of $3.06{\sim}9.57^{\circ}C$, and that the quantity of heat transfer measured is in the range of 3,812~7,180 W. The CFD evaluation results shows a difference of 5% with respect to the results of mock-up experiment.

Study on Heat Transfer and Fouling of Flow Boiling Systems using Oxidized Graphene Nanofluid (유동 비등 시스템에서 산화 그래핀 나노유체의 열전달 및 파울링에 대한 연구)

  • The nanofluids are the fluids with excellent thermal property, it is expected as a working fluid of the next generation. The nanofluids are well known that if it is used in the boiling heat transfer system, the critical heat flux is enhanced up to 200%, and the thermal conductivity is increased up to from 10 to 160%. However, the fouling phenomenon can be occurred that nanoparticles of nanofluids are deposited on the heat transfer surface. Therefore, to investigate relation between nanofluid and fouling, this study is carried out using oxidized graphene nanofluid. Also it compared and analyzed the critical heat flux and the boiling heat transfer coefficient. As the result, in case of oxidized graphene deposition for fouling, the critical heat flux is increased up to 20% more than oxdized graphene nanofluid. However, the boiling heat transfer coefficient is decreased down to about $6kW/m^2K$ at $1,000kW/m^2$ more than pure water.

  • Recently, district heating and cooling (DHC) systems based on combined cycle generation (CCG) providers are increasing in Korea. Since characteristics of combined heat and power (CHP) generators and heat demands of providers, heat trading between DHC providers based on the economic viewpoint is required; the heat trading has been doing. In this paper, a mathematical model for optimal operation based on heat trading between DHC providers is proposed. Especially, start-up characteristic of CCG is included. The operation model is established by mixed integer linear programming (MILP).

  • This paper is concerned with the heat flux distribution and energy partition for creep-feed grinding. Form measurements of transient grinding temperatures in the workpiece sub-surface using an embeded thermocouple, the overall energy partition to the workpiece was estimated form moving heat source theory for a triangular heat flux distribution as 3.0% for down grinding and 4.5% for up grinding. The higher energy partition for up grinding can be attributed to the need to satisfy thermal compatibility at the grinding zone. The influence of cooling outside the grinding zone can be analytically taken into account by specifying convective heat transfer coefficients on the workpiecs surface h /sab a/ heat source (grinding zone) and h /sab b/ behind the heat source. The smaller energy patition together with slightly lower grinding power favors down grinding over up grinding.

Heat Transfer Characteristics of Oval-Tube Heat Exchanger (타원관 열교환기의 열전달 특성)

  • This study experimentally investigates an air-side performance of oval tube heat exchanger against round tube heat exchanger using scaled-up model experiment for home air conditioners. A plain fin and round tube heat exchanger with 21 FPI(fins per inch) was used as a reference heat exchanger, and these were applied equally to 4 oval tube heat exchangers. Oval tube samples were designed with the same perimeter as 7.5mm diameter round tube, and their aspect ratios were 1:2, 1:3, respectively. In this study, the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of oval tube heat exchangers against round tube heat exchanger were also compared to one another, and an optimal samples for home air conditioners was recommended. And, general performance characteristics for an optimum oval tube samples chosen in this work was compared with round tube heat exchanger.

  • The objective of this study is to propose an experimental calibration facility in which a heat flux sensor can be calibrated under conductive condition by using helium gas. The heat flux calibration facility was designed, simulated and manufactured for use in a high heat transfer condition. It delivers heat fluxes up to a maximum of 35 KW $m^{-2}$. A copper block heated electrically with 3.5 KW power is designed to produce uniform temperature up to 600 K across its face. High heat fluxes are provided between hot plate and cold plate by 1 mm height helium filled gap. A cold plate is maintained around 300 K through pool boiling using a refrigerant and water-cooled heat exchanger. A simulation was conducted to verify the design of the main test section. To verify the performance of calibration facility, a heat flux sensor was examined. The measured heat fluxes were compared to the calculated one.
