The purpose of the present study is to examine the heat transfer characteristics of the U-shape heat pipe for the cooling of semiconductor in subway train. Perflouro-carbon(PFC) was used as working fluid. Temperature distribution on the surface and heat transfer coefficients were investigated according to the working fluid volume percent and heating rate. The results were as follows; Optimum volumetric percent of working fluid was from 80% to 90%, and hat transfer coefficients of evaporation and condensation were as follows, respectively. $\hbar_ie=0.37\times(\frac{P_i}{P_O})$l_c}^0.3$,$\hbar_ic-4.2(\frac{\kappa_l^3p_l^2gh_fg}{\mu_lq_c_l_c}^\frac{1}{3}
Boiling heat transfer coefficients of pure refrigerants (R22, R32, R134a, R125, R290, and R600a) and refrigerant mixtures (R32/Rl34a, R290/ R600a, and R32/R125) are measured experimentally and compared with Chen's correlation. The test section is a seamless stainless steel tube with inner diameter of 7.7mm and uniformly heated by applying electric current directly to the tube. Heat fluxes range from 10 to 30kW$^2$. Mass fluxes are set to 424 ~ 742kg/m$^{2}$s for R22, R32, R134a, R32/R134a, and R32/Rl25 ; 265 ~ 583kg/m$^{2}$s for R290, R600a, and R290/R600a. Heat transfer coefficients depend strongly on heat flux at a low quality region and become independent as quality increases. Convective boiling term in the Chen's correlation predicts experimental data of the pure refrigerants fairly well (relative error of 12.1% for the data of quality over 0.2). The correlation for pure substances overpredicts the heat transfer coefficients for nonazeotropic refrigerant mixtures.
The present work experimentally investigated the effects of mass flux, heat flux, inlet quality on the heat transfer performance inside the U-bend of smooth and microfin tube using R-22 and R-407C refrigerants. The parameters were 200 and 400 kg/m$^{2}$ s for mass flux, 6 and 12 kw/m$^{2}$ for heat flux, 0.1 and 0.2 for inlet quality under the pressure of 0.65 MPa. The apparatus consisted of the test section of four straight sections and three U-bends, preheater, condenser, refrigerant pump, mass flow meter etc. The average heat transfer coefficient at the downstream straight section after U-bend was affected by U-bend due to the centrifugal force and mixing of two-phase flow in the U-bend. The average heat transfer coefficient at the U-bend was 4 ~ 33 % higher than that at the straight section. The average heat transfer coefficients were affected in the order of mass flux, heat flux and inlet quality. The average heat transfer coefficients in the microfin tube were lager by 19 ~ 49% and 33 ~ 69% than that in the smooth tube at the straight section and at the U-bend separately. The average heat transfer coefficients for R-407C were larger by 33 ~ 41% and 17 ~ 29% than that for R-22 in the smooth tube and the microfin tube separately.
Experimental results for heat transfer characteristics of natural refrigerants R-290, R-600a and HCFC refrigerant R-22 during evaporating inside horizontal double pipe heat exchangers are presented. The experimental apparatus is basically a vapour heat pump system, composed of a compressor, a condenser, expansion devices, a evaporator, and some other peripheral devices. The test sections were horizontal double pipe heat exchangers, which were a pair of smoothed tube, having 10.07 mm ID, 12.07 mm OD, and grooved inner fin tube, having 12.70 mm OD, 0.25 mm fin height, and 75 fins. The local evaporating heat transfer coefficients of natural refrigerants were not much affected with the mass velocity than R-22 and it could be interpreted that the local evaporating heat transfer coefficients of R-22 were increased more than those of R-290, R-600a according to the increment of mass velocity. Moreover, the maximum increment of the heat transfer coefficient was found in R-290. The average heat transfer coefficient was obtained the maximum value in R-290 and the minimum value in R-22. It reveals that the natural refrigerant can be used as a substitute for R-22. In the grooved inner fin tube, 70% of the increment of the heat transfer coefficient was obtained compared to the smoothed tube.

The convection heat transfer coefficients on the top surface of a large liquid petroleum liquid injection(LPLi) engine piston with the oil gallery are analyzed by solving an inverse thermal conduction problem. The heat transfer coefficients are numerically found so that the difference between analyzed temperatures from the finite element method and measured temperatures is minimized. Using the resulting heat transfer coefficients as the boundary condition, temperature of a large LPLi engine piston is analyzed. With varying cooling water temperature, temperature, stress, and thermal expansion of the piston are analyzed and evaluated.
Experimental study is conducted to investigate the cooling performance of impinging jet from microtube using Joule-Thomson effect to apply practical applications. And also the heat transfer characteristics of a impinging jet itself and the impinging jet with Joule-Thomson effect are tested to make a comparative study of the two different general ideas. For this propose, two kinds of copper microtubes which have 200 tim and 300 tim in inner diameter respectively were tested and $N_2$ was used as a working fluid. In case of impinging jet without Joule-Thomson effect, heat transfer coefficients distributions were similar to those of normal impinging jet. But in impinging jet with Joule-Thomson effect, the heat transfer coefficients decrease as jet-to-surface increases contrary to the case of the normal jet. As a result, much higher heat transfer coefficients are obtained with Joule-Thomson effect than those of the normal jet without J-T effect.
The operation of a low temperature differential model stirling engine is tested and analyzed by Simple analysis model. The heat transfer coefficients are required for Simple analysis, and the coefficients are determined by coinciding the P-V diagram of analysis to the diagram of experiment. The results show a good agreement. However the heat transfer coefficients are quite high by comparison with the ordinary forced convective heat transfer cases.
Heat transfer augmentation in a rib-roughened duct is affected by the rib configurations, such as rib height, angle of attack, shape, rib to rib pitch, and aspect ratio of a duct. These have been the main subjects in studying the average heat transfer and the friction loss of the fully developed flow. Investigating distributions of local heat transfer coefficients and flow patterns in a duct with the rib turbulators is necessary to find the characteristics of heat transfer augmentation and to decide the optimal configurations of ribs. In the present study the numerical analyses and the mass transfer experiments are performed to understand the flow through a rib roughened duct and the heat transfer characteristics with various angles of attack of ribs. A pair of counter-rotating secondary flow in a duct has a main effect on the lateral distributions of local mass transfer coefficients. Downwash of the rotating secondary flow, reattachment of main flow between ribs and the vortices near ribs and wall enhanced the mass transfer locally up to 8 times of that in case of the duct without ribs.
To investigate effects of the inflow area on pool boiling heat transfer in a vertical annulus, the inflow area at its bottom has been changed from 0 to $1060.3mm^2$. For the test, a heated tube of 34 mm diameter and water at atmospheric pressure have been used. To elucidate effects of the inflow area on heat transfer results of the annulus are compared to the data of a single unrestricted tube. The change in the inflow area at the bottom of the annulus results in much variation in heat transfer coefficients. When the inflow area is $113.1mm^2$ the deterioration point of heat transfer coefficients gets moved up to the higher heat fluxes because of the convective flow at the bottom regions.
The condensation heat transfer coefficients of pure refrigerants R-22, R-134a, and a binary refrigerant mixture R-410A flowing in a small diameter tube were investigated. The experiment apparatus consists of a refrigerant loop and a water loop. The main components of the refrigerant loop consist of a variable-speed pump, a mass flowmeter, an evaporator, and a condenser(test section). The water loop consists of a variable-speed pump, an isothermal tank, and a flowmeter. The condenser is a counterflow heat exchanger with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and water flowing in the annulus. The test section consists of smooth, horizontal copper tube of 3.38mm outer diameter and 1.77mm inner diameter. The length of test section is 1220mm. The refrigerant mass fluxes varied from 450 to 1050kg/(㎡$.$s) and the average inlet and outlet qualities were 0.05 and 0.95, respectively. The main results were summarized as follows ; in the case of single-phase flow, the heat transfer coefficients increase with increasing mass flux. The heat transfer coefficient of R-410A was higher than that of R-22 and R-134a, and the heat transfer for small diameter tubes were about 20% to 27% higher than those predicted by Gnielinski. In the case of two-phase flow, the heat transfer coefficients also increase with increasing mass flux and quality. The condensation heat transfer coefficient of R-410A was slightly higher than that of R-22 and R-134a. Most of correlations proposed in the large diameter tube showed significant deviations with experimental data except for the ranges of low quality and low mass flux.
