  • We consider. a horizontal static liquid layer on a planar solid boundary. The layer is evaporating when the plate is heated. Vapor recoil and thermo-capillary are discussed along with the effect of mass loss and vapor convection due to evaporating liquid and non-equilibrium thermodynamic effects. These coupled systems of equations are reduced to a single evolution equation for the local thickness of the liquid layer by using a long-wave asymptotics. The partial differential equation is solved numerically.

  • Evaporation heat transfer characteristics were studied in a horizontal tube using R22/R114 non-azotropic refrigerant mixture. the heat transfer coefficient was high in the upper part for pure refrigerants, and heat transfer coefficient was low in the lower part for refrigerant mixtures. In the low quality region where nucleate boiling was dominant, the average heat transfer coefficient was low. In the region where forced convection was dominant, heat transfer coefficient was high. Results show that the heat transfer coefficient for pure refrigerants obtained by experiments were lower than those of Yoshida et al. but agreed well with Jung et al., and Chen et al. data. But the heat transfer coefficients for refrigerant mixtures were lower about 20% than those predicted by the equation for pure refrigerant.

  • With circular tube heated directly or indirectly placed in a cross flow, heat flows circumferentially by conduction due to the asymmetric nature of the fluid flow around the perimeter of the circular tube. The circumferential heat flow affects the wall temperature distribution to such an extent that in some cases. The effects of circumferential wall heat conduction on local convective heat transfer is investigated. The wall heat conduction parameter which can be deduced from the governing energy equation should be used to express the effect of circumferential heat conduction. Two-dimensional temperature distribution is presented through the numerical analysis. The comparison of one-dimensional and two-dimensional solutions is demonstrated on graph of local Nusselt numbers.

  • In order to estimate the efficiency of an evaporative heat exchanger having mini channel, the equations to calculate heat exchanger properties, those are air temperatures and water temperatures etc, are derived from the governing equations based on the Navier-Stokes equation, even though there are several assumptions to make problem simplify. There are three heat transfer zones at the mini channel heat exchanger depending on the water condition. So, there are three governing equations and solutions to calculate the properties. As a results of this study, the equations to calculate a saturation point and a dry point are derived to evaluate an evaporative heat exchanger having micro channel. It is supposed to predict the performance and evaluate a mini channel heat exchanger.

  • A numerical simulation of velocity and temperature fields and Nusselt number distributions is performed by using the algebraic stress model (ASM) for the velocity profiles and low Reynolds number ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model and the algebraic heat flux model(AHFM) for turbulent heat transfer in a $180^{\circ}$ bend with a constant wall heat flux. In the low Reynolds number ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model, turbulent Prandtl number is modified by considering the streamline curvature effect and the non-equilibrium effect between turbulent kinetic energy production and dissipation rate. Every heat flux term presented in the transport equation of turbulent heat flux is reduced to algebraic expressions in a way similar to algebraic stress model. Also. in the wall region, low Reynods number algebraic heat flux model(AHFM) is applied.

  • The present work investigates the heat transfer characteristics for laminar fully developed forced convection in an internally finned tube with axially uniform heat flux and peripherally uniform temperature through analytical models of convection in a porous medium. Using the Brinkman-extended Darcy flow model and the two equation model fur heat transfer, analytical solutions fur fluid flow and heat transfer are obtained and compared with the exact solution for fluid flow and the numerical solutions for conjugate heat transfer to validate the porous medium approach. Using the analytical solutions, parameters of engineering importance are identified and their effects on fluid flow and heat transfer are studied. Also, the expression fur total thermal resistance is derived from the analytical solutions and minimized in order to optimize the thermal performance of the internally finned tubes.

  • A conjugate conduction-convection analysis has been made for a plate fin which exchanges heat with its fluid environment by forced convection. The analysis is based on a one- dimensional model for the plate fin whereby the transient heat conduction equation for the fin is solved simultaneously with the conservation equations for mass, momentum, and energy in the fluid boundary layer adjacent to the fin. The forced convection heat transfer coefficient is not specified in advance but is one the results of the numerical solutions. Numerical results of the overall heat transfer rate, the local heat transfer coefficient, the local heat flux, the fin efficiency and the fin surface temperature distribution for Pr=0.7 are presented for a wide range of operating conditions.

  • In this study, the heat balance test of an engine was conducted, and the heat released to coolant is measured and corrected using a power adjustment factor for high fuel temperature to simulate heat rejection of the engine. An engine-converter matching simulation program which can compute the engine speed, transmission output speed, transmission input and output power is developed from the vehicle, transmission and engine performance curve. With this information and the engine heat rejection characteristics, the engine and transmission heat rejection rates can be determined at given condition. In analyzing the air mass flow, a sub program computing the air mass flow rate from the equation of the pressure balance between cooling fan static pressure rise and pressure losses of cooling components is developed.

  • This study investigates the air leakage and heat transfer characteristics of a commercially available rotary-type air-to-air heat exchanger with a fiber polyester matrix. Crossover leakage between the exhaust and supply air is measured using a tracer gas method for various ventilation rates and rotational speeds of the wheel. A correlation equation for the leakage is obtained by summing up pressure leakage and carryover leakage. The pressure leakage is observed to be a function of ventilation rate only, and the carryover leakage is found to be a linear function of wheel speed. The real efficiency of the heat exchanger can be obtained from its apparent efficiency by taking into account the leakage ratio. The heat recovery efficiency decreases, as the ventilation rate increases. As the wheel speed increases, however, the efficiency increases initially but reaches a constant value for the speeds over 10rpm.

  • The temperature distribution and cooling rate play an important role in the investigation of heat affected zone of weldment. All the problems such as metallurgical changes, welding thermal stress, welding residual stress and welding deformation in the heat affected zone of welded joint are due to the temperature distribution and cooling rate. In this paper, one dimensional temperature distribution and cooling rate due to transient arc welding heat in the heat affected zone of the base metal are studied. Heat transfer equation for one dimensional heat flow is formed, and solution is obtained. Weld heat input formula is also formed and used. Computed numerical results show a good agreement with the experimented temper color.
